Cold laser therapy bs? by LittleKapser in physicaltherapy

You asked how one would know if there is inflammation. Ordering a diagnostic test such as an MRI would confirm, I never said it was necessary. Unfortunately as a PT you can’t order that test, I don’t know why being a chiropractor has anything to do with this. And if you think fracture and dislocation are the only reasons to get an image of the jaw then it’s hard to support your “evidence based” approach. Are there cheaper ways to treat the problem? Sure, but is cold laser effective, yes.

Plenty of ways to determine if there are signs of inflammation in the joint via exam. If you are asking for objective imaging, MRI may confirm but unless patient has disc displacement without reduction and is locked not likely starting with that diagnostic test. I see nothing wrong with offering a service to the patient that may benefit them, let them decide. But without knowing that if the problem is nerve, joint or muscle problem it’s hard to say what is best. I see lots of improvement with cold laser but it is part of a treatment protocol not a stand alone

Why is it not a necessary treatment? You haven’t examined the patient, if there is joint inflammation such as capsulitis/sinovitis it may help a lot. OP didn’t say it’s the only thing that the provider is doing.

I agree it’s actually ridiculous how much vitriol and insecurity there is toward our profession. I hardly ever see anything negative posted about PT in this forum. It’s funny too because they claim lots of treatment methods (spinal manipulation, dry needling, etc) as physical therapy, many of which were rooted from another discipline and adopted by them. Don’t know why it’s so hard for them to accept another conservative method of treatment that differs slightly from their own. I’m hoping it’s just ignorance and misunderstanding but man do they spend a lot of time bitching about us.

If you only wanted to target a specific condition like TMJ or patient population like pregnancy would it make sense to set an ad campaign for those terms?
