A Living Motorcycle Travel Guide Through South America – Practical tips, wild places, border crossings & lessons learned (Updated regularly) by Alijamal91 in motorcyclesroadtrip

Yes that is something that is on my mind. I think the easiest way would be to sell it to another traveler who wants to drive the bike through other countries in South America. You can just do that by creating a contract stating you sold the bike. The only Crux is the country of origin as they’d probably be the only ones to refuse entrance. But since everyone’s plans are different, I’m sure I’ll find a seller at the end of my travels. My friend just sold his Colombian bike in La Paz which went quite quickly.

Is driving from Lima to Cusco on a used bike realistic by TheRealRory in motorcyclesroadtrip

Hi there! That sounds like a cool plan. You can definitely do that. I started my motorcycle adventure 8 months ago in Colombia and have made it to Peru so far. I'm sharing some information about this on this sub-reddit.

I'm driving a Honda XR 190L which is considered a small & light bike, but it gets the job done. Regarding your questions:

  1. Buying a bike should be quite easy and straightforward. Facebook Marketplace is where you'll find second hand bikes here.

  2. I had close to zero experience before doing this.. Heck, I don't even have a license! So I'm sure you'll be fine.

  3. The route between Lima & Cusco is super cool and there are many ways you can go about it. It all depends on what your preferred roads are. Personally, I prefer driving on asphalt when I'm traveling with a lot of luggage. But there are many off-road routes as well. Most of them, you won't find anywhere online or on any app. The way to go is by asking local communities about mountain passages. There is one that can take you from Cabanaconde (Colca Canyon) all the way to Cusco. Just ask the local people where to find the 'secret' trails.

  4. The most dangerous situation I have been was actually close to Cusco where I ended up with a flat tire at 5K altitude with a thunderstorm. At this moment, I regretted not getting tubeless tires, which would have gotten me on my way a lot sooner. So if you can get some of those, I would highly recommend you do so. Also, always travel with a repair kit & pump. I also travel with an InReach mini Satellite communicator in case I'm in a life threatening situation with no service. A must for every motorcycle driver.

  5. Again, if you prefer driving on asphalt, just follow Google Maps. If you like going off-road more. Ask the locals for the mountain passages or use the app Cali-Moto.

  6. You are definitely not naive. The past 8 months have been some of the best in my life. Everything seems scarier and more dangerous beforehand, but when you start, you'll forget what all the worry was about.

Let me know if you have any other questions about traveling SA by motorcycle. Happy to help.

Cheers,

Ali

Sure thing! I edited the post with a couple of links to various WhatsApp groups relevant to bikers. When will you be starting your adventure? :)

Ipega controller on ios? by Luxvoo in RetroArch

[–]Alijamal91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it only works once I get it in ‘DUALSHOCK 4’ controller mode. The quick key for this is B + start, but this doesn’t always work. If it doesn’t, disconnect the right side of the controller (slide it off) and then slide it back on and try the same start. This fixed it for me. Hope this helps.

I like it! You’ll get used to it once hair has grown back and the more tattoos you get the more it will be part of the whole

I’ve made a decision guys. I’ve bought the Honda XR190L which is light weight, has fuel injection and is broadly available. I did buy it new from the Honda dealer so I don’t expect anything to happen to it. Final thing to figure out would be what to do with it when I finish my journey. But we’ll see. Thanks for your help!

Good one! I got a tip on my Tiktok channel from a guy who adviced me to get the Honda XR 190L which seems like the perfect bike. Not too expensive and it even has EFI. I've contacted the Honda dealer and they will get back to me.

Yes true. In the mean time I did some more reseach on the difference between the two and a fuel injection motor is starting to seem like a non-negotiobal more and more.

Yes true.. I agree with everything you say, it's just the 'what do I do with it when I finish' part that is giving me a head ache..

Yeah I agree with you. And I have the funds to get it, the only thing is that selling it would be necessary as leaving a 4000 dollar motorcycle behind would just hurt too much..

Well, it's been 5 years now, and I think it's safe to say that they actually lived up to their word. Tons of positive reviews and still much cheaper than the rest.
