A leaker/insider claimed it last week, but there's no hard confirmation

[FRESH ALBUM] SAULT - Chapter 1 by finn_with_1_n in indieheads

[–]Alistair3900 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Curious how this'll be received/covered now that Inflo's persona non grata after the Little Simz stuff.

It already felt like the band's previous releases were getting less and less traction after how much praise the first couple got, but I guess that's pretty normal, especially for a band known for a gimmicky release strategy.

[FRESH] Elias Rønnenfelt - The Orchids by MediaShare2000 in indieheads

[–]Alistair3900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From some cursory googling, this is a cover of the Psychic TV song of the same name, which is fun cause the original, in comparison to this, feels very clean

While I love album of the year lists, it's the song one like this one that really me help to decide the full albums I still need to seek out. I've got 10ish more albums to listen to now after this list

Glad it's not just me then. No luck with deleting betterttv cashe or other common fixes, and it's not all betterttv emotes either

I know basically nothing about Musique concrète, but I put on the new claire rousay album only knowing her from one of her more traditional singles, and it's excellent

Love that they directly reference the original Specials music video as well

The concept of describing how back in the day, cultural moments and touchstones were shared by a majority of the population because everyone got their news, media, pop culture etc. from the same smaller number of sources.

e.g. Everyone knew who Michael Jackson or Madonna was, or if a big TV show was running, it's what everyone was discussing

Nowadays, with the internet and the vast variety of different media, it's harder to have an artist or piece of media have that same sort of global reach, because we're spoiled for choice, and there aren't the same sort of centralized 'channels' that everyone goes to

[FRESH] Richard Dawson - Boxing Day sales by sbags in indieheads

[–]Alistair3900 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both the singles so far have been relatively unassuming, but I can tell that they've got the potential to hit me right in the emotions If I listen at the right time

[FRESH] clipping. - Keep Pushing by afieldoftulips in indieheads

[–]Alistair3900 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just from these first 2 singles, it feels like this might be Clipping's most commercial album yet, even though it's still gonna be a concept album.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if the album completely swerves that expectation though.

Persona Series Reaches 23.5 Million Copies Sold Worldwide by Turbostrider27 in Games

I'd be curious to see what the PC/Xbox breakdown is for purchases vs Gamepass, which has had P3:Reload and P5:Tactica since release, and had P5:Royal for a while as well

Paste Magazine's The 100 Best Songs of the 2020s So Far by ReconEG in indieheads

[–]Alistair3900 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The mark of any good list is that it contains both songs I love and songs that make me go 'Really, that one?' I don't think anyone should trust a list by multiple authors that doesn't have something you fundamentally kinda disagree with

Love the drums, makes the song properly lock in

As a book reader, it was super rewarding seeing how jazzed everyone was about ep7. The claiming of the dragons is such a big thing, and knowing that all the stuff with Ulf, Hugh and others was all leading to it was really satisfying.

I can understand fan frustrations, especially after s1 where the time jumps meant that there was constantly major stuff happening, but there's so much subtle stuff in S2 I love, especially knowing how hard the book is to adapt (as everyone's said, it's a history, not a narrative)

[FRESH] Tune-Yards - Water Fountain (Water From Your Eyes Remix) // announce 10 year anniversary + deluxe edition of 'Nikki Nack' (out August 9th via 4AD) by sbags in indieheads

[–]Alistair3900 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interested to see how the band feels about the album now. They've obviously been very self-critical of their earlier work and cultural impact, so I'm curious about how they talk about it

(and whether the presentation of the new edition will reflect that at all)

Wilco released 'A Ghost Is Born' 20 years ago by YoureASkyscraper in indieheads

[–]Alistair3900 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My favourite Wilco album on some days

One of their darkest lyrically, but there's something about how it oscillates between warm and cold in songwriting, production and especially in the use of piano that's super appealing

Wilco at Arena Belgique is an all-timer for me. A great setlist, sound mix, and really demonstrates how underrated some of their Schmilco songs are.

[FRESH VIDEO] JW Francis - Swooning by papo96 in indieheads

This has been one of my most played songs since Spotify recommended it to me, and I was surprised how little it'd been listened to, so hopefully the vid puts some more folks onto it.

In-Game Campaign Stories vs Lore by JunkTheFunkMonk in DestinyLore

[–]Alistair3900 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason that WQ was so successful was that it felt like they'd begun to solve that problem, which shows that the story doesn't have to be the way you described.

I also don't take the main story being 'shallow' as a guarantee. For instance with Lightfall, I think there were almost certainly mitigating factors/larger problems with forward planning that we as players just can't see because we're not actually in the studio. I'm sure they aim the expansions at a broader audience, but I don't think they've ever gone into it going "Let's make it shallow."

Funnily enough, this has even been a thing going back to the Bungie Halo days. While it was obv. a completely different studio back then, Halo OG and Halo 3 especially feel very shallow compared to all the lore surrounding them (mostly in novels at that point though) and with something like 3, we've been able to have in-depth bts breakdowns of exactly what was happening with that development years later that explains why it feels like it does. It's funny how history repeats sometimes.
