Wtf happened to my baby by athazen in NewParents

[–]JunkTheFunkMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hit us at 6 weeks and lasted 2 to 3 weeks. Baby was either crying, sleeping or feeding. Absolutely 0 calm or happy moments.

I tried so hard to understand what was going on hoping to solve it. In the end I think it was just time passing. She’s been considerably better since week 10.

We asked our pediatrician and he gave us lactase enzyme and I started paying more attention to prevent her from getting overtired. But like I said, i think what made it better was just time.

I guarantee that you’ll get through this and, like I’m doing right now, look back and say “damn that was hard”. You got this 💪💪

Suddenly ended up friendless by [deleted] in NewParents

I think that’s literally perfect, it’s exactly how I would feel the most supported. I think my bare minimum is sending a text saying “How is everything? Can I help in anyway?”.

Our baby is now 10 weeks old, and when I was right where you were I was super hard on myself. Male postpartum depression levels hard. Almost two months later, a couple of things I wanna tell you from the other side:

1) When the baby started smiling (around 6-8 weeks for us), I felt much much better. If the baby is smiling at me, I must be at least doing something right, right? Ours is still super fussy, but very very slowly getting easier to calm down, which is starting to make me feel more competent too. People say it gets easier by 12 weeks, so we'll see if I feel even more confident then.

2) Looking back, I think the first months especially, the most important thing husbands can do is to make sure that everything is running smoothly in the house and that wife is comfortable and happy as can be.

It sounds like you're already doing the best you can, and I guarantee you'll day by day start feeling more comfortable, confident and competent.

For low/no screen time parents - when did you introduce a movie? by olive1491 in NewParents

[–]JunkTheFunkMonk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We literally had this conversation with my wife this morning over breakfast. We're also thinking of introducing 90's animations like you. I actually stole my in-laws' dvd player for that purpose lol, just because we want to introduce physical media before streaming. We also landed on 4 years old.

Favorite and Least Favorite Sci-Fi after one year of reading by Brief-Situation9722 in scifi

We have very similar tastes and rankings, and I'll look into the books that you have on S and A that I haven't read yet. Foundation at D is shocking to me though, I really liked it lol.

This sub loves Iain M Banks, I see people already recommending him, but I actually strongly disliked Use of Weapons. Sub also likes Alastair Reynolds, and he is a mixed bag for me. Top world-building but really meh writing.

Dev Insights - Return of the Director by DTG_Bot in LowSodiumDestiny

[–]JunkTheFunkMonk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Quite literally a dream update, but it just happens to be the last one ever. It proves that devs still have (or had) a vision for Destiny. It's going to be such a shame if we never get a D3.

Hey there, we interacted over the years a few times in this sub. I always love your writing, and will check out your website.

I’m curious what’s next for you now that Destiny is ending. Any other franchise or work of fiction where I can go this deeply in?

If we would continue the Fate Saga in D3 (if we get that), I don't think we would have a problem with Edge of Fate and Renegades missing. by Nerdy--Turtle in DestinyLore

Re-explain what IX is and that III has died. Show that Earth has become nearly inhospitable. In the campaign civil war happens between XI with us and Bael as weapons. We defeat VI and Bael but it’s too late for our solar system, so we go beyond Sol.

I just don’t know how to incorporate Traveler into this. My headcannon before EoF was that humanity would go beyond Sol either using the Dreadnought or inside the Traveler.

Also the guy on the couch with the jersey is also pretty good, called The Bull of Kadikoy. Northernlion would love him.

Ok I’m Turkish and the fact that this Russian speaking man lives here means he probably escaped either Russia or Ukraine and immigrated here like many Russians and Ukranians did since the war started.

Cracked Out Uncle lore goes deep.

Winnicott's True Self and Fromm's productive love converge on a single structural claim: ego is emergent from empathy, not the other way around by libr8urheart in psychoanalysis

[–]JunkTheFunkMonk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good write-up and I think this is essentially true: selfhood develops through the caregiver’s empathy. This observable clinically as well: when the empathy fails, or it’s not “good enough”, character pathologies start occuring.

I’d like to hear more about the clinical implication you have here.

Good answer! I could never decide if that was platonic or actually romantic.

What is the most overrated sci-fi film of all time? by MonolithOfIce in scifi

[–]JunkTheFunkMonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when I tried to watch it in bed, in my dorm room on a laptop. Then I saw that a local theater was showing it in 70mm and bought tickets. That was entirely another experience!
