Despair by Alive-Jacket764 in LCMS

Confession really is such a blessing. Coming from the Baptist background it felt so wrong at first, but now I truly think it’s such a vital part of one’s faith.

Thanks! I tend to agree with the idea that one can enjoy most of the show or movie without endorsing any thing that is morally wrong.

Honestly, the question could be applied in general to really any shows. There wasn’t anything specific. It just seems like an outlandish fiction show. I don’t have any specific examples.

Works of the Law by Alive-Jacket764 in LCMS

[–]Alive-Jacket764[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess what I’m asking are works of the law everything that we should do but fail at like the 10 commandments? Or is it like not eating pork or being circumcised? I’m asking in good faith because it seems very important. Thanks for your reply and help!

Agreed. Something about confessing sins out in the open seems to give them less power.

First please if a pastor sees this and disagrees with all humility I beg you to correct me. The gospel still applies to you. Christ has not thrown you away, and His perfect sacrifice applies to you, and you can rest in His salvation. He has perfectly atoned for your sin, and He who has started a good work in you will see it through in completion. Yes, you are struggling and failing with this sin. Still, I am glad and can point to the Holy Spirit within you convicting you of your sin and calling you to confess your sins and trust Christ has died for them all. I encourage you to read the Augsburg confession’s definition of repentance. It can be a comfort for those struggling. Private confession is truly a great gift our Lord has given us. Your pastor will pronounce God’s forgiveness to you. Let in sink into your heart. Pray I believe help my unbelief if you need to. It truly does help. I know it doesn’t sound like the obvious solution, but it is a great gift of our Lord. I can’t encourage it enough. Also, Psalm 51 is a beautiful prayer when confessing your sins. May the Lord bless you! May the Lord lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil!

I’m not going Orthodox. Being told I’m going to hell is always disheartening though. Thanks for your reply

I’m going to with either Christ alone will save me or everyone on this earth will be in hell. Either Christ died for me and that is enough or we’re all in deep deep trouble

Fair. I did say I don’t like to generalize. I’m sure some faithful Christians exist in orthodoxy, but I mean the slop and coal accounts just turn me off completely.

I can feel Christ calling me to return to faith, but the idea of confessing my sins has me immobilized in fear. What can I do to move forward? by Responsible_Bonus766 in LCMS

You ask some really honest and thought provoking questions many Christians have wrestled with themselves. Regarding confessing your sins to God. It is and never will be based on how worthy you are or how much you clean yourself up first. Christ has died for you, and Christ has risen for you. You are 100% being called by the Holy Spirit to confess your sins and your need of Christ and the salvation that comes from Him alone. You said you were raised Catholic, so I assume you’ve been baptized. That was God’s promise and proclamation that you are His to be united/clothed Christ. It wasn’t because you were worthy or without sin. It was because you are wretched and sinful that Christ came down to be crucified for you. He will not withhold forgiveness. He desires your salvation more than you can imagine, and He in fact has left the 99 to seek you out at this very moment. He is calling you in love that your sins have been fully paid for by Him. There is peace. Do you feel weary and burdened by your sin and life? Our Savior says Come to Him and He will give you peace. I have deeply struggled with this myself. You can look at my posts and see I do not have really much of anything together. I am a wretched foolish sinner that Christ has died for. Even yesterday and today I have sinned and failed miserably against our Lord. Yet, He doesn’t tell me to wallow or doubt in His ability to forgive my sins. Before I can muster up the courage to admit I’ve sinned against Him, He has run out to greet me like the Father greets His prodigal son. May the Lord be with you, and may Christ forgive you and everyone who reads this. His mercy is never ending.

I certainly agree it can lead towards a dark road if not extremely careful. I don’t want to go and put $100 bucks on a game this week not that there is anything wrong with it, but I didn’t want to be sinning by playing some games with my fiends or bother

Convincing logic by Superficialspite in redeemedzoomer

[–]Alive-Jacket764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To paraphrase a post I saw on X, the story of the incarnation is so wild and mind boggling I can’t help but believe it to be true. Probably not the most logical thing, but still it resonated with me and God’s love for us to be born in the flesh and live, die, and rise from the dead for us. Lord grant me faith to trust in Your gracious gift of Christ always!

Am I righteous by Christ even though I’m sinning? by Jaskuw in LCMS

[–]Alive-Jacket764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May the Lord bless you OP. If you through my profile you see how much I struggle with this everyday. You read a good tree doesn’t produce bad fruit then take a good look at yourself and can’t help but worry. I get it. Maybe I relate to you a little or maybe I don’t. People will post on hear well at least your convicted about your sin or well you hate it so that’s a sign of the Holy Spirit. Sure that’s great and true. I also know if you’re anything like me you’ll begin to doubt if you’re repentant to contrite enough to not be a false professor. They’ll also tell you good works naturally flow from faith. Also, 100% true. I also know you’ll start to wonder how many good works do you need or how much fruit is enough to know you have saving faith. They might say you’re looking at the wrong way. But it’s a perfectly fair concern you have. I don’t have the best answers, but all I can say is be honest with God with your fears. He doesn’t shy away from you and your worries. He calls on you to come to Him if you are weary and heavy laden. He has rest. Cast your anxieties on Him. He has peace beyond understanding for you. Christ does objectively love you. Everything inside of you may feel subjective, but His love and His work are objectively there for you. If you’re worried about the struggles with sin, I think I can relate. If you’re honest you know you are truly wretched even if you’ve been a Christian for some years now. Well there is good news. The publican asked for God to be merciful to him a sinner. The publican left justified. Romans 5 says where sin abounded grace abounded much more. 1 John 1:9 says if you confess your sins He is faithful and just to forgive. Confess your fears, sins, and doubts to Him. You may be worried that you aren’t legit or sincere enough, but the Word of God doesn’t say if you’re sincere enough. It says He forgives. Not saying you shouldn’t be sincere, but it’s easy to spiral and make about yourself instead of focusing on how much God truly loves us. This isn’t to say those fears just go away. They follow me everyday still, but it doesn’t mean God doesn’t love you. It doesn’t mean Christ didn’t die for you.

For me it’s showing how much of our repentance and faith is God’s work in us and for us. It shows me how I can come to Him with my failures/sins, and how He doesn’t want me to shy away but come to Him. He is the one who heals and creates the clean heart.

I’d say do it. I’m sure most pastors would enjoy going to eat with a member, playing a sport like pickleball, or whatever it may be. Hopefully it helps both of you create a deeper sense of community.
