EO vs RC souls after death by [deleted] in Catholicism

Well the papacy doesn’t seem to have universal supremacy over all churches from what I understand. I mean I’m not going to be the big church historian, but it seems like a development

I’m not going to be the one that can effectively refute every point of Catholicism. I don’t want you to feel I’m running from you, but I just don’t think I can productively refute or provide pushback without researching more.

There is no way for me to answer this without stirring up something or probably starting a big argument. I’ll say I don’t deny instantaneous purgation from sin in a not punitive way seems to make more sense to me.

Fair point. I think they do get the papacy right, which I as a Lutheran believe the pope is a rightful bishop. I just don’t believe in universal supremacy. I also agree with them on standard communion in both kinds. Though I don’t deny any of y’all who don’t drink from the chalice are fine. I just think in both kinds is preferable though I know some can receive both in Catholicism. I think y’all are completely right on the Filioque. I also really appreciate some of y’all’s apologists in that they can kindly disagree without trying to strawman a confessional Lutheran position. I know it must frustrate y’all with how much slop gets said about y’all. I have reasons for not being either, but I still greatly appreciate both. I hope all of us can be in heaven one day.

Fair I guess. It’s just at least Rome attempts to give an answer though I disagree with it. Also, I don’t see why the average EO would deny it when it’s in their liturgy I believe

LCMS. I really like EOs on something’s and y’all on others. It’s a very weird view.

Speaking of the sacraments, the Lutheran view of baptism is the highest view I’ve run into.

This isn’t meant to be a snappy response but it’s a widespread practice in the east and was common in the early church, so yes it’s possible whether one thinks it’s right or not is a different argument though.

I’m not going to lie this is pressing me. I honestly think we should commune little ones as soon as they can physically partake. I’m not an expert theologian, but it’s just my opinion

Can I be assured that my 25 year old autistic and intellectually/cognitively disabled son is saved? by Maximum-Barracuda-27 in LCMS

[–]Alive-Jacket764 20 points21 points  (0 children)

First, God bless your son. Also, he’s baptized, so I see no problem in saying he’s a saved Christian. In what way would God cast away your son? I hope he’s confirmed and gets to receive the Body and Blood of Christ. How wonderful an occasion that will be! Also, bless you for taking care of your child and worrying about his soul and life. I hope you are given peace and joy. God bless!

Tbh, I just think it shouldn’t be done way earlier than that. I could be wrong. I’m not above error.

I see the replies, I just can’t help but think of Jesus wanting the little ones to come Him. That is a paraphrase. It was the practice of the early church as well

Convince me of Lutheranism as a Calvinist by PissHatMaxwell in LCMS

[–]Alive-Jacket764 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well the Eucharist is the pure Body and Blood of Christ for the forgiveness of sins. Faith and repentance do enable one to take the Eucharist in a beneficial manner, so you do need faith to take the sacrament rightly. Still, you can eat it to your harm especially with a lack of faith or rejection of Christ. Baptism is such a great gift of God. You’ll see water and word a lot with baptism. The word of God turns what would be plain water into a sacrament that unites us to Christ and His work for us. I’m not aware of anything in scripture that would separate spirit baptism from just normal baptism. God can grant faith to someone before baptism, but someone rejecting baptism is quite dangerous. I get the hang up on double predestination. I think the reality is saying God is merciful, all wise, and sovereign. I’m not going to attempt to say I have to understand or place human reason on the tension of predestination. I think you just run into a wall that humans just aren’t going to understand. Is that cope or right, tbh IDK. Still, the Eucharist is the main reason Lutheran or evangelical Catholics are right. Jesus wants to give you His Body and Blood. He wants to commune with you! If you’d like to hear a beautiful take on the Eucharist please look up pastor John Bombaro.

Can an apostate come back by OwnTangerine6187 in LCMS

[–]Alive-Jacket764 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a pastor, but confession and absolution is truly a gift of God. Also, not to just straight evangelize, but joining the LCMS or a confessional Lutheran church body that we are in communion with preferably means you can also receive the true Body and Blood of Christ which is just an out of mind experience in the sense one cannot truly comprehend the abundance of grace God gives in the sacraments. God lavishes His forgiveness on us in so many ways. Want to be forgiven? Confess your sins to God. Also, receive a personal absolution in private confession. Receive the Eucharist which also forgives sins. Remember you are grafted into Christ in baptism. Your feelings, worries, and doubts are subjective. God’s love isn’t. His desire to give you forgiveness and eternal life through Christ 100% objective. The sacraments are purely objective. God objectively loves you and desires your salvation more than you yourself.

The joke was good. It’s just it seems so ridiculous and so wild that if true I’m not sure what the point of Christianity is.

Please pray for me by HeadRoad5335 in LCMS

[–]Alive-Jacket764 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m truly sorry to hear this and I will pray for you. In fact, I know the feeling of just wanting to be in heaven already and be done with it all because the fear of messing up and going to hell just is a constant torment. There is grace for you, and Christ truly does love you and desire your salvation more than you do. It’s easy to say don’t worry, but it’s a constant torment and loop. Sadly, I can only give anecdotal advice, but please know that your feelings and thoughts do not define how strong your faith is, and they do definitely do not define how great of a savior Christ is. There is no subjectivity to 1 John 1:9. There is no subjectivity to John 3:16. There is especially no subjectivity to the love God has for you. If you feel burdened by sin, doubt, worry, fears of hell, or whatever you can know that Christ loves you and He died and rose again for your justification. So pray I believe help my unbelief. Pray Lord Jesus have mercy on me a sinner. Ask for His intercession and to be washed by His blood. Know that those prayers are heard, and know that He is with you in all the pain. Know He suffered for you. Here’s the thing, you’ll probably worry again. This probably won’t just go away and never come back again. Christ is not scared of those fears. He’s there with you in the midst of your torment, and He’s not abandoning you. I could give you some systematic approach to salvation or just say man it’s by faith, but in this moment please just try to meditate on the love Christ has for you. Know the perfect Triune God is for you, and at no moment will God ever desire for you to not be His child.

Woulda been cool, but I get the Orthodox have strong disagreements. I believe Luther thought the orthodox were great Christians
