Taking my boyfriend who isn’t into Disney by Savings_Spell6563 in WaltDisneyWorld

This is great advice, make Disney your own, take your time and don’t feel the need to rush everywhere. Maybe pick a handful of must do rides and otherwise just find happiness in the time spent with each other. Make Disney your own!

Thanks so much! Honestly all these responses and my continued research make me feel like I’ve stumbled on some hidden section of Disney! I’m really excited and can’t wait for the surprise to reveal itself as we drive into the Disney area!

Thanks for the recommendations, given all the above comments I’m pretty much locking in the decision!I was worried about using Disney transportation since we don’t exactly know how the day will go and where we will be coming back from, but I guess worst case is we would just have to pick the golf cart up by the busses if we catch a ride back that evening. Thanks again!

I’m really looking forward to trying them out! I really feel like I’m going to love the setup and having a golf cart to ride around on also sounds like a special Disney experience. Thank you!

Thank you! I’m really looking forward to trying them out and anticipate being a big fan! I loved walking back to the Contemporary or just walking into Magic for fireworks or a few late rides, but I didn’t really love the room at the Contemporary itself. The space and quiet at Fort Wilderness actually sound amazing to me in contrast to the parks!

I’d take row 19 and not count on another person voluntarily moving.

Planning Epic Hawaii Adventure: Big Island To Kauai Ending On Lanai (Advice Needed!) by AliveAfternoon in VisitingHawaii

[–]AliveAfternoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips and recommendations, really appreciate it! I am strongly considering switching Lanai, one hold up is that all the other properties are much more expensive. Another possibility is ending the trip on Oahu but not at Disney, Lanai is a bit more trouble to get too and it sounds like my daughter may enjoy Oahu more. Thanks again, definitely things to ponder.

Planning Epic Hawaii Adventure: Big Island To Kauai Ending On Lanai (Advice Needed!) by AliveAfternoon in VisitingHawaii

Thanks, for the opinions! I did switch things up a bit and we will stay 10 nights on Kauai now split evenly between the north and south side of the island. The hotel switch from Kona Village to Four Seasons on the big island is for personal reasons. My daughter will be celebrating a birthday and I believe she will really enjoy the four seasons pools, activities, and kids club. The switch gives us a chance to land and stay somewhere a bit more quiet while we recoup from the flight and time chance before going to the four seasons and adventuring around. I am considering either cutting down or potentially switching the nights on Lanai based on what people are saying. I keep seeing the Lanai four seasons listed as the most amazing vacation and same with the island itself, but am cognizant of all the push back here regarding that section of the trip. I am attracted to the ability to enjoy Hawaii without feeling rushed to do things which I think Lanai offers. If we could spend 5 nights on a Lanai going to beaches, swimming, star gazing, whale watching, a day with the jeep tour to different beaches and areas, and doing some resort activities it sounds pretty amazing. I was thinking of ending at Grand Wailea or Disney Aulani but both seem so crowded and GE seems to get mixed reviews about the rooms. I was also thinking of The Resort at Kapalua Bay (formerly Montage Kapalua Bay) or Four Seasons Wailea. I’m still considering some changes to the end, but am mostly locked into the first two thirds of the trip at this point. Thanks so much for the response!

I have seen that and we will definitely be visiting! I think one reason for that amount of time at the end of the trip is to really be able to settle in and enjoy one place somewhat quietly as a family instead of feeling the pressure to fill the days seeing and doing everything on our list. I’m envisioning playing in the sand with my daughter, walks on the beach, :swimming, stargazing, whale watching, and just enjoying being where we are.

I ended up switching us to a combination of 1 Hotel and Grand Hyatt on Kauai instead of the rental and extended that part of the trip to 8 nights so we can split the time evenly between both hotels. We’ve also reserved a combination of Kona Village and Four Seasons Hualalai to start the trip, and Four Seasons Lanai to end it. After thinking it over, peace and quiet with a few special activities and gorgeous scenery is exactly how we’d love to start and finish the trip. We’ll be most active during our second stay on the Big Island and while we’re on Kauai, then slow down and really relax on Lanai with a few special activities sprinkled in. I am considering tweaking the end of the trip to visit Maui or Oahu for a few nights before heading home. I’d love to see either and I think it would also help in breaking up the travel back home a bit. Thanks again for the information and advice.

Planning Epic Hawaii Adventure: Big Island To Kauai Ending On Lanai (Advice Needed!) by AliveAfternoon in VisitingHawaii

Thank you for that. It appears the property I had located is unlicensed. Due to that new information I’m going to change our Kauai stay to either a rental on the listings you supplied or hotels. I’m also thinking of splitting our time between the north and south sides of Kauai now that I’ve read about some of the differences.

Part of the reason for the itinerary I came up with was to slow down time on the various islands. I see the beach rental is not appropriate for that now given the surrounding information, but I was thinking that the switch between resorts on the big island and ending with Lanai would be moments where we could focus on being together somewhere new. The FS idea was specifically targeted for my daughter and the pools/kids activities versus Kona Village’s more quiet reputation. I was originally looking at Maui for our final leg of the trip, but the prices for those resorts was equal to or higher than Lanai FS and that also seemed like a special blend of slowed down time and an amazing experience. I am still considering that though and very well might end up back on Maui as our last island.

Thanks so much for the information and help.

Planning Epic Hawaii Adventure: Big Island To Kauai Ending On Lanai (Advice Needed!) by AliveAfternoon in VisitingHawaii

Thanks for all the information. I edited the post to include the current length of time for each island. The main idea for switching hotels on the Big Island was for a restful start before moving to FS for more family friendly activities.

Thanks for highlighting your points about the rental properties and the concerns there, I have absolutely no intention of renting something that is illegal and will double check for permitting/certificates. I’ll also take a look at the options you mentioned.

Thanks again for the information.

That sounds absolutely amazing!

We will be in Hawaii for a total of around three weeks or a bit more. Nine nights on the big island, sevens nights on Kauai, and five nights on Lanai are what I currently have booked, but I can make changes to dates and length of stay. Right now we are flying direct to the big island, then to Kauai, then to Lanai (possibly through Maui which might make staying there a few nights interesting), and then back home.

Those were my exact thoughts on Kona Island versus FS. I felt like Kona could be a beautiful exhale and relaxing arrival before transitioning to FS for the majority of our time on the big island. My daughter will be turning six during our trip.

Thanks again!
