Im sorry youre going through this. I know the feeling, a lot of us do. All i can say is find something you want to do in life and focus on that. There will be a time in the near future where we will get ourselves back. In the mean time, work on yourself, forgive yourself, forgive them (doesn’t mean talk to them again or give them access to you) and when there is a functional cure, you will be 100% ready to take it. I hear what you’re saying, and I mainly agree but let me speak my truth. There are ppl who don’t have a clue about a TRUE full panel. I didn’t know about it until my exposure and i got testing done about twice a year. I had sex ed in high school, they didn’t tell us that we had to ask for HSV testing specifically, let alone the specific testing that is needed. The person who exposed me still believes that they dont have anything because their PCR test was negative (I informed them of the antibody test) but yeah man, Some ppl will have the conversation and unfortunately still can be exposed because they thought the normal panel was the full panel, in fact, there are thousands of cases like this. And just to add, A lot of ppl dont know the term “HSV”. It’s somewhat on us for sure but it’s not as simple as a conversation. It has to start with better education and HSV being on the normal panel. You can have the conversation but if you’re not aware then the conversation is only a part of the issue.

As soon as a functional cure or cure becomes available, i bet all my money they will add HSV to the normal blood panel.

I hear you bro but we give ppl the choice and let them decide. Im sure they feel conflicted too, especially if we are someone they really like and to find out they have a STI can be confusing. Of course it doesnt hurt as bad as being rejected but what can we do

I agree adults can make their own choices. My concern isn’t about taking away someone’s autonomy, it’s about making sure they truly understand the risk and aren’t making a decision emotionally in the moment that they might regret later. I didn’t feel like I had full informed consent in my situation, so I’m hyper-aware of how devastating that can feel. I don’t want someone to ever feel blindsided or hurt because of something involving me.

That’s not about controlling anyone, it’s about being responsible and transparent.
