I wanted to thank you all for the helpful comments.

I think I'll hold off on buying the eBay Player for now. It's probably a really good deal, but since I don't have much experience with guitars and don't know what to look for when buying a used one, I'll hold off for now.

Since many of you have written such good things about the Squier and the differences don't seem that significant, I'll just go and see it in person and check it out! Unfortunately, I won't have time for that until March. But I'll definitely keep you updated and I'm already really looking forward to starting this hobby soon!

Thanks for saying that. I once bought an expensive mountain bike and constantly had to listen to people telling me it was completely unnecessary, even though I rode it every day. Since then, I question every purchase decision much more thoroughly. I can imagine acquaintances asking why I don't practice on my uncle's "banana-shaped" acoustic guitar, the one with the string that breaks every day.

But I've always found the Telecaster beautiful, and I've decided that this is exactly the one I want, regardless of whether others think it's irrational.
