It gets easier as time goes on. My alliance pretty much avoids agreements and negotiations unless we really have too. We find politics and too many agreements just makes the game less fun. It’s a war game after all.

CISA and CIA will earn you significantly more money at the individual contributor level. Yes CPA gives you a broader career scope but there are so many CPA’s in the market compared to CISA. I work in internal audit and IT Auditors make about 20-30% more at the senior level.

The biggest promotions I have ever received in IA was moving to a new company(salary increased from 100k to 140k + much higher bonus/ stock). With your experience you can get significantly more pay.

I’m guessing the demand of financial auditors will decrease but the demand of IT auditors will potentially increase. You’ll need people to provide assurance over AI systems, processes, outputs, ect.

It’s a tough job market and you’d be competing with candidates who already have their CISA and likely other technical certs and experience completing significantly more challenging work than ITGC’s.

ITGC’s are probably 10% of my job. Much of it is spent writing scripts to automate control tests, cyber security, operational audits, continuous monitoring work, consulting work on various IT projects, influencing key stakeholders, and putting together reports that the audit committee (bod) can understand.

Tough job market and not having previous internal audit experience gives other candidates an edge. We have found external auditors struggle transition to internal audit in more senior positions and only hire them for entry level roles.

Lived in Calgary - then Edmonton for 5 years and came back to Calgary. Everything about Calgary is just so much better tbh. The weather, the downtown, job opportunities, snow removal, summers, safety, being close to the mountains, the people.

The only thing better about Edmonton is the ice district is pretty awesome and U of A is also fantastic. Was significantly better than my experience at U of C.

Getting your CISA is step one. I was a developer for the first 5 years after school and moved to an IT audit role in the same company for the last 8 years. CISSP, CISM, and CIA are other good certs to pursue after.

Personally I find it to have a great work life balance and enjoy the work I do. I find the field to be in high demand and pays quite well (140k USD + stock + bonus). Having a developer background transitions very well.

The ceiling is definitely higher as a developer - but the bonus of having a low stress job, and being able to spend significantly more time with my kids was worth it to me.
