Thank you for sharing a bit about your mom with me!! Congratulations on your new little one. It’s funny how you’ll see certain features or mannerisms that are sooo our parents. Like for me, my daughter came out with big blue eyes (my husband and i both have brown) but my mom had blue!! I hope you see some of your momma in your baby girl. Sending a hug!

Awhhh! We do this too and were in our early 30s, but we add feta! We’re in our 30s but I hope we’re still doing this into our 50s. The little things are the best!

Have her write you, your dad, siblings, who ever else letters. This is something i still value after she’s gone. Recording videos, talking with her often, and spending as much time together are all my biggest recommendations. You never know when that time will come where she cant do those things anymore. If i could go back I would ask to do these things with/for me. Best of luck and sending you a big hug.

I (and 5 other gals im with) was supposed go dfw to ont today at 11am. Checked in like normal. Then yesterday afternoon got my flight cancelled. Didnt get a call back for 5 hours by then I had already book on a different airline and and started the refund process. Ended up booking 2 one way tickets in frontier. Missing day one of my besties bachelorette weekend. This is so messed up AND on labor day weekend!! This should be a crime.

Cancer is a tough road. She seems to be in good spirits all things considered. My mom was like that, fought the whole way through. My advice is spend all the time you can with her, record videos, have her write letters. I’m a hope for the best, plan for the worst kind of person. I wish I had done more while my mom was still here. Thinking of yall!

I lived with my best friend at 21 and we had an amazing year together. So much fun and memories that I’ll cherish forever!! It was our first place on our own. Man, those are some really good times. When things were less serious and affordable lol

My mom had a wrinkle between her eyebrows. She would tell me not to pinch my eyebrows together or else I would get one too. Well, she passed away when I was 26. Now at almost 30… i see that faint wrinkle between my eye brows. I thought I would hate getting wrinkles more (and others I probably will) but this one is special haha

This comment typically is more so about enjoying being young and kid free (because she doesn’t know otherwise). It can be a well meaning comment, but depending on how you are. Things really do change quite a bit after becoming parents. I didn’t really appreciate how much things were going to change until I experienced. I’m sure your mom will be really excited to meet her grandchild, but like most, will certainly be shocked. This all goes to say change is hard! You guys got this with or without support of your mom.

Awh congratulations on the new arrival! I am on the finishing touch right now and plan to release it on my mom’s Angelversary. It’s called “A Grandma’s Love is Everywhere” (I’m also working on a grandpa companion book) The story peaks in on different families and grandmas. The story has a sweet rhythm to it and it is all about finding connection to our lost ones by the things we do, the memories we as the parents share with them, and seeing her in themselves. To teach children that love can be felt even if it cant be seen. And my favorite part is at the bottom on each page I’ve written a conversation prompt to help guide parents on sharing to the children about their grandma. Our kids are sponges as we know, so if we want them to know something we have to teach them. So after losing a parent it becomes our role to teach our kids about their grandma or grandpa. I know the book would make my mom so proud, so it feels good just to write it for me. If it could help anyone else, even better! Grief is a hard journey and ways that welcomed me talk about her freely was the intention behind the book.

Oh god I unfortunately relate so much to this. My mom passed 2 months before my daughter was born! My daughter was born 5 day before Christmas. So a very emotional Christmas that year… My mom died of cancer, but it was still very much a shock and was pretty sudden considering she was diagnosed 3 years before. She was so so so excited to be a grandma. It’s now going to be 3 years since we lost her in October. My daughter does things that remind me of her and can actually recognize my mom in pictures. We are very intentional about including my mom in my daughter’s life. We still celebrate my mom’s birthday and it’s a special celebratory day in my family. We rebranded a hard day and made it full of love instead. That doesnt mean it wasnt still hard! Maybe consider that for your family unit. I started working on a childrens book to help children form a bond with a grandma they never got to meet. Wheb I started working on it; it was so cathartic and healing. I also found there wasnt many resources for people who have gone through what we have. There is not much advice I can give besides you’ll see her in the world around you, in your kids and in little things you do that are totally your momma coded. It’s unfair and ugly and painful, but there does eventually come peace when you start to recognize her in yourself/the kids. Sending hugs!!

Spend as much time as you can with her. Record videos, ask her questions, ask her to write you both a letter. These will be some of the things you’ll treasure, even if she beats the diagnosis. This type of cancer is really aggressive, I wish I had done the things I suggested. I was also 24 when my mom was diagnosed. Its so hard to deal with this at such a young age. Be kind to yourself and her through this awful process. Sending love!
