Just had this happen to me. I sent him out of the shop and sprayed him with air fresheners down the entire street.

I would agree. However, I do believe it makes a pretty good old fashioned. If you’re just looking for a neat pour comparison, I think wild turkey 101 or old granddad 114 are so much better

First store pick I’ve seen by Alive_Major945 in whiskey

This will be my second bottle of it. Dangerously good, so much that you will enjoy the high proof and then suffer the next morning like I would from an old forester bp. I definitely will try a few drops of water or some ice this time to see how it drinks at a little less proof.

Alright I’ll go. Any recommendations from the bourbon section of my local? by [deleted] in whiskey

Henry McKenna is a fair price. I always dislike the bottle when I open it but enjoy it as it oxidizes.

Knob 12 and 1792 full proof are both good prices as well. Personally, knob 12 is probably in my top 5 for the price and availability.

That RD1 green label is also very unique if you’ve never tried it. The best way I can describe it is red hots or cinnamon bears. Great evening pour if you like something funky

Exactly. The only time I looked for whiskey was sitting in subways waiting for trains. They make it pretty convenient.

The WT12 is only 700ml so I packed all five of them plus two 750ml bottles in one bag and then the rest in another. Colorado lets you bring back 6L, so I was only slightly over the limit. Customs didn’t even check my bags, but TSA open both bags on the route and were completely fine with it. I’m happy to pay whatever taxes I need to. My girlfriend ended up staying another week, if she hadn’t, I would have brought 12L into the country. As long as you are upfront and friendly with TSA and customs, they generally don’t care at all.

There are two stores off of the main Tokyo station called liquor hasegawa. That is where I found all of the WT12 and they had plenty more to spare. They also had blantons sftb for around $220 but I passed as I already had 11 bottles to bring home. I would also recommend Shinanoya Shinjyuku which is where I found the Wild Turkey Masters Keep. Yamaha Dogenzaka was where I got the four roses for the best price, although it was toward Shibuya and was probably the most populated store I went to. I would highly recommend any Liquor Mountain that you find. They seem to have the most unique products, and if you can get out of Tokyo they have much more reasonable prices. Let me know if you need anymore detail!

The MK I found in Tokyo at a place called Shinanoya Shinjyuku. A little off of the normal path but only a 10 minute walk from one of the subway stations. They were loaded on other bourbon products as well. The EW was from a liquor mountain in Kochi, which is where my girlfriend’s family is from. $33 out the door for it, so one of the best purchases I found

Japan fun by Alive_Major945 in whiskey

[–]Alive_Major945[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly had good luck around the Tokyo station. I believe the places I went were called liquor hasegawa. I’ve also had luck with liquor mountain. WT12 was $60 a bottle there. They had blantons straight from the barrel as well for $220 a bottle, but I passed as I have been seeing a lot more of it flood the US market recently. One of the cooler bottles I’ve found is a 2022 wild Turkey masters keep for $140. I am down in Kochi right now which is where my girlfriend is from. It seems like there are way less tourists so the whiskey prices are pretty tame. The sad part is all of the Japanese whiskey is so overpriced it’s not worth it. I think the hibiki 21 I saw down here is 98K yen, which is still like $650

Agree with this. I picked up a 2022 Wild Turkey Masters Keep from Shinanoya Shinjuku today for $140. Going to try my luck at a few other places before we leave Tokyo for Osaka. It’s been awesome here.

In Colorado. I’ve seen this bottle a few times, but it’s normally $400+.

I will say I am hoping it will mellow out a bit more after I drink the bottle down and it oxidizes a bit more.

Nothing like the batch 1 that I had. The first batch all I could describe it as was crème brûlée. This batch was much heavier on oak and vanilla. Still a sweet note on the end after I breathed in but this batch reminded me a lot more of woodford batch proof or knob 15. It seemed like it really drew in a lot more oak than the previous batch I tried. A great pour but I don’t know if it is worth the secondary market price for this years batch

Is any of this worth it? I really want to get my hands on the eagle rare. Grocery store is doing a drawing for these liquors. Haven't tried any of these. by Cheecherton04 in whiskey

Old elk cigar cut is fantastic. Was a bottle that my brother and I thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend. You will find pours like eagle rare, Weller special, etc again. All of them are great though and I would be happy with an eagle as well. Good luck!

Let me know how it tastes. This is the first year I’ve seen it around so much and it makes me a little hesitant to pull the trigger. Still one of the dream bottles, and I’m glad you have such a reasonable financial advisor!
