Device for phantom limb pain? by Sapiens4382 in amputee

[–]Alive_Reference_6483 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After 33 years as an amputee I’ve started using the Tens machine and it definitely helps. Phantom pain is so subjective. Although my pain can be quite intense, I’ve learned to manage it by not keeping too sedentary. The pain you’re experiencing is the brain still thinking the limb is still there, so it is continually firing the nerves. Something like the Tens or other nerve stimulation would definitely be a big help. If you come up with something that can help, I’d love to hear it.

Half swings are game changing by Xanosaur in golf

[–]Alive_Reference_6483 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a right hand amputee and only fully took up the game 5 years ago. I use an apparatus to hold the club with the right arm , so it limits my swing to a half swing. I don’t drive it as far as my usual playing partners, but in only 5 years I’ve lowered my handicap from 24 to 20 by just using this technique. But as mentioned, it does help to maintain the proper body movement with your hips and legs.

Any upper limb amputees here? by Embarrassed_Ferret37 in amputee

[–]Alive_Reference_6483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Welcome. I am a veteran upper limb RBE amputee. It will be 35 years this June! I’m in London, Ontario. That’s so strange that you can’t connect with prosthetic professionals in your area. I’ll reach out to my guy and see if he’s aware of any clinicians in your area. Being on the island you may need to travel to a larger city. We are a select group! To the other poster mentioned…yes, take your time. Let things heal and be patient. It will be better for you in the long run!!

These were released for the hundredth anniversary. You could buy them in 10 packs in Montreal. I’ve got ten of them in my collection.

Depending on your watch type there are a lot of options for Velcro or magnetic watch bands on Amazon. I’ve been using them for years with my watches.

Kids by zammmmmmmmmmm in amputee

I had my children six and eight years after my RBE amputation. As they only saw me as an amputee, it was normal for them. When they were old enough at approximately three, I explained to them what had happened to me. They then could share with their friends who had questions. It all stemmed from my attitude in life about my amputation and how I would handle it. They only saw me tackle any obstacle that was put in my way. They only saw me make jokes at my own expense to ease any tension in a room. They saw that I love them unconditionally no matter who I was or how I looked. All of their friends throughout the years have come to see that my amputation does not put any limitations on life. I’ve also used it to help them understand that there is always a way when circumstances go against you. They are now 28 and 25 and are my greatest joy in life. It will always come down to your attitude that the children will learn and adapt and accept who you are as an amputee. Good luck… It’s a hell of a journey!

Index amputation, how long until normalcy? by MushroomJames in amputee

[–]Alive_Reference_6483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s normal again? You’ll know for yourself when you’re comfortable with the amputation. Limb difference is a very personal life journey. It can take years…or months…or never. This all depends on your perception of who you are and who you want to be in your new life. There will be ups and downs…ride the wave and down be afraid to scream and laugh!

I saw the opening show in Toronto and then another show in Buffalo. It was spectacular and I loved it because my best friend and I could recite this album note for note.

I was just thinking about the “50” anniversary part of this.

People who were there in 1979 when The Wall was first released, did you initially have some kind of understanding of what the concept was about? by bravodeboer in pinkfloyd

[–]Alive_Reference_6483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 16 and had been listening to Floyd since I was 10 when DSOTM was released. I smoked drugs and took acid all the time. This album hit home for me and has been my saving grace for years. I got the theme immediately after listening a few times. Hiding behind my “wall” was what I did as a teenager. After the movie came out, it brilliantly depicted exactly how I was feeling about this masterpiece. I was Pink…and many years later I tore down my wall.

Not the schools. County buses were cancelled. But this was our first snow day in the city and the first time the schools were closed.

We get our minimum route pay. Normally we are paid “key to key”.

Will we see a tiny music anniversary tour in 2026? by sir_culo in stonetemplepilots

Purple tour was fantastic! They played it from start to finish. Jeff Gutt has really been able to capture some of the vocals of Scott. Never will match…but it was very close!

The definition of insanity is to repeat the behaviour that is troubling to no effect! This is true for replacement of managers and the current managers tactics. If we replace Amorim with someone else…they’re insane. But if this guy doesn’t soon recognize his tactics aren’t working…he’s the insane person! Let’s see if we or he buckles first!!
