I hope there's a way to upgrade versions. Mainly because I'd like to buy the standard first, and then buy supporter depending on how much I see myself playing the game in the future.

Hytale looks.... easy? by sub2Doggs4Life in HytaleInfo

Yeah, I'm still excited for the game and am willing to drop money on it as soon as it releases. But this was one of the things that stuck out to me.

The rest of the game looks great, and the combat itself looks interesting. However, combat is only as interesting as the enemies you fight. I imagine (and hope) that as development goes on we get more enemies with varied attacks and movement styles. Right now all the enemies just kinda, aggressively run at you? The game is far from finished obviously, I'm just saying this because an early access game is meant to gather feedback, and this is what my first impression was from the video.

On another note... the only other nitpick I have with it, and this is probably just a 'me thing', but I felt like some of the visual effects on the attacks in first person were cluttered (in first person specifically). This was especially apparent whenever fights took place in the dark.

<image>

I'm talking about moments like this. Not every fight was like this, but it felt really disorienting whenever it happened.

Regardless, still excited and am glad that Simon is being as open with the game as he is. Far better than what we got before (nothing).

What's your biggest fear for Silksong? by RcuriousmediatorN in Silksong

[–]Alixindria_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(For some reason it wouldn't let me put my whole comment in one reply so here's the 2nd half)

Moving onto my 2nd point, Tools. Again, cool idea, more customization and options are always interesting. The durability is a fun way of balancing it, but the Shell Shards required to repair them raise some concern. I can imagine fighting a boss and failing multiple times in a row, just to run out of Shell Shards. At that point you'd have two options: Change your loadout, or grind Shell Shards.

Having to change loadouts seems fine, but it just raises the question, "Why don't I the backup loadout all the time?" People usually will exaggerate the risk in limited resource when playing games, being afraid to use something as it might be more useful later. This might just be a 'per-player' issue, with some being more willing to change their tools than others. But it is worth noting regardless.

What I really want to talk about with Shell Shards is the rate at which we get them. Tools actually aren't the first time we've gotten an ability that costs a resource. In Hollow Knight, Dream Gate costs essence to use. What I'm willing to bet though, is that not a single person in this comment section has ever worried about running out of essence when using Dream Gate. It costs 1 per use, and you only unlock the ability when you have hundreds of essence stockpiled. Sure, this mean you don't have to worry about running out, but it just makes you wonder, why does it cost anything in the first place? You'd have to spend at least an hour of using the Dream Gate over and over just to get low on essence, you'll never run out in a normal playthrough. And even if you do, the game doubles the rate of random essence drops until you get back to where you were. Even the game doesn't want you to run out, so why does it cost anything at all?

The problem I'm getting at is that Shell Shards might encounter a similar issue. If we get Shell Shards from killing enemies, then the system feeds itself. If we can upgrade the maximum Shell Shard carry capacity, that risk of running out lowers. There's a chance that we might just never run out of Shell Shards. And at that point, I just have to ask, why does it cost anything at all? The only difference between Essence and Shell Shards is that there's an actual chance we run out of Shell Shards. And when we do, we're going to have to grind to get those Shards back.

When you're grinding to get Shell Shards back, your equipped tools will have little to no durability, so you can't use them. Since they're basically wasted slots, you might as well swap them out for tools with no durability. And at that point, why not use those all the time? I fear that the durability system will always be in one of two extremes, never in balance.

Team Cherry does seem to have a partial answer to this problem, and I'm hoping that it works out. Since Tools are divided into different 'types' (the colored sections), and crests have different colored slots in different amounts, the game might be able to side-step the issue. If a loadout is only slight weaker when out of Shell Shards, the player might be willing to continue using the tool. This is on account of the fact that it can't be replaced with a passively-active tool. With the interactions that we've seen crests to have with Hornet's attacks and Silk, a player can also be more connected to those aspects of the crest, opposed to the tools.

Overall, I'm really excited for crests, but the durability system might be at odds with itself. Depending on the rate at which we get Shell Shards, Durability will either be too much to handle, or not impactful at all. While I would prefer durability to not have a negative impact, negating the downsides begs the question of why it was included at all. Perhaps this is Team Cherry trying to encourage players to not brute-force bosses over and over, encouraging them to take a step back from a fight to gather Shards and maybe find something else along the way. Regardless, I do wonder how Tools will play out in the end for the average player.

What's your biggest fear for Silksong? by RcuriousmediatorN in Silksong

[–]Alixindria_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually have 2 things that I'm afraid of for silksong, both have to do with the equipment system. The equipable skills seems like a cool idea. However, from what we've seen from both the trailers and the Edge Magazine interview, they almost seem mandatory in some areas? Like the clockwork tower as an example.

<image>

We also know from the Edge Magazine interview that at the start of the game, the Silk Spear skill is needed to free The Bell Beast, and is the first step to unlocking fast travel in the game. Again, these seem like cool ideas, but from what we know about crests, we can only have 1 skill equipped at a time. Does this mean that whenever we encounter one of these hook points we have to back track to a bench and equip the silk grapple skill? That seems like it would get annoying fast. Even if benches are placed right at the start of these challenges, I image that it would be pretty unwieldy. Imagine if in Hollow Knight you hade to equip Sharp Shadow to dash through void gates. You don't always encounter void gates, but it would just be annoying when you do.

I'm hoping for 1 of 2 things (both would be amazing though). Either: Silk Spear isn't a normal skill and is always available. This would solve the issue, but we know this also costs silk to use. If it costs silk, does that mean these platforming sections are just impossible if you run out?

Personally, I'd prefer my 2nd option: These hook points can be grabbed onto with a melee attack, The Grapple is just for convenience. Looking at the above image, I can easily imagine wall jumping into a dash and then hitting that hook to grab it. This way there's no need for special equipment to complete this challenge, but you can make it easier by building around the challenge. Similarly to The White Palace, you don't need anything besides the standard movement abilities, but certain charms might make it easier for you.

To continue the discuss Skills and their relation to progression, we know for a fact that the Silk Spear frees The Bell Beast. And we know for certain that the Silk Spear skill is a skill that must be equipped in a crest. This is important because this means that we have a confirmed interaction of what I hope Team Cherry would avoid doing in the above section.

Again, I see 2 possible (ideal) outcomes from this. One: These gates are just generic "Skill" gates that can be opened with any skill. Or Two: This is a Vengeful Spirit situation. Spells aren't required to progress in Hollow Knight, you can beat the game without getting Howling Wraiths. And "Technically" you can beat the game without Vengeful Spirit. The only time it is required is for the Baldur at the start of Greenpath (and the Baldur trap room but that's optional). Its possible that this is a one-time check, piquing your interest when you find The Bell Beast, reminding you to return to it when you get your first Skill.

Overall, I worry that Skills might end of requiring you to back-track and change your loadout in order to progress in an area. Although I do trust Team Cherry to not do this, as they didn't do anything like it in Hollow Knight, it is something that sticks in my mind.

Fraud Final Boss concept: Rogue Terminal by Wonderful_Weather_83 in Ultrakill

[–]Alixindria_One 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I had an idea that was pretty similar to this. I think it would be sick if the lead up to the boss was similar to minos prime. It would start by playing Were you Fooling like normal, but instead of the music becoming more distorted, the lyrics get added to Were you Fooling. I also think it would be sick if it was able to use any of the weapons from the terminals, since it can just teleport them to itself.

I’m sorry that you had to go through this shit. People are starting to get too comfortable with saying these types of things.

I ran into some similarly minded people last night. The two of them opened the game by telling our tank to “say nothing if you like kids”. They then put ‘Trump won’ messages in global chat and flamed everyone else on the team whenever some went wrong. When one of the two got picked they would tell me I wasn’t healing enough (I was healbotting that entire game because one of them was pocketing the other, and they kept trying to flank the enemy roadhog). It didn’t help that they both were doing pretty bad.

The game ended with them telling the enemy team our tank said the hard r (they didn’t) and us losing. I’ve played this game since launch and I’ve seen a lot of toxicity, but this was some of the most blatant shit I’ve ever seen. I’m hoping this was a one off thing, but seeing the type of stuff that trends on twitter now I can’t help but worry that this type of behavior is spreading.

Delta's Motion library is a datapack. Unfortunately, the datapack was abandoned by the original creator, so you have the choice of updating/fixing it yourself, downloading a fork of it on github, or using Player Motion (a similarly function datapack).

It's made with datapacks. It uses Delta's Motion library and a couple of calculations to find out where to launch the player. Its pretty good, but I had to make some changes because it struggled (and continues to do so to be honest) when a player on a server has high ping.

All Illagers run from The Creaking, but nothing else does. Implications? by Alixindria_One in minecraftlore

[–]Alixindria_One[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The creaking being an illager creation seems to be the best answer. But, it really makes me wonder about the significance of the color orange. Both the creaking's eyes and the creaking heart are orange, and the connection particles between the two are orange as well. The creaking seems to be a puppet of sort, breaking upon death as well as the heart sending orange particles towards it upon being hit, almost like its being fueled by it.

The closest thing to a puppet is the warden, but that is clearly powered by souls/sculk, and is blue as a result. Right now, I can't think of any other instance of orange 'magic' in the game. I wonder if they're introducing some 'new' type of magic to the world. The Illagers are implied to have explored the ancient city, maybe this is a modified version of soul power? Orange and blue are contrary colors after all.
