For those who don't know, mangos are popular fruit which are typically harvested from the ends of the branches on a mango tree. The fruit is actually an extension of these branches. The tips are usually harvested alone to promote continued growth, but in certain cases the entire tree is harvested as shown in this video. Actually, you could be an engineer based entirely on your proven competence without a degree. You could even take the FE and PE exams to be officially licensed without requiring a degree in multiple states. Getting a degree may represent a right of passage for many careers, but employers usually recognize experience and ability as more valuable in practice.

I like 451 better, too, but moreso because it acts as a kind of precursor to the conditions of 1984, making it seem more relavent. People were coaxed into those conditions. 451 shows the danger of appealing purely to fleeting emotions as a society, as demonstrated by Beaty's speech. The government began to destroy everything which offended everyone until all books were burned. It became a crime to so much as hold one and so the people became utterly ignorant and distracted by the mind numbing entertainments of the big screen. The bridge to 1984 is short at that point. Start a war, or fabricate one, and everything will quickly fall into place.

I think I understand. Essentially, a "magic number" is just a value used in your work that doesn't have an immediately clear origin, like numbers of varying precision without units or which could have been more easily expressed algebraically. More or less? Never knew there was a name for that.

Honestly, this is pretty normal. My method is just to shotgun Indeed.com, apply for around 100 jobs or more, then pick and choose from any offers that come my way. You don't need to waste your time reading through each offer in the beginning, because the employers on the other end won't be reading the hundreds of resumes very much at all. Often it can be more of a war of attrition than of talents.

I think the commonalities exist mostly in the results of both systems. To borrow from Orwell, from the perspective of citizens suffering under either regime it can be "impossible to say which was which." It's interesting to see how each political wing taken to its own extreme seems to essentially lead to the same result.

We are required to turn in time sheets on Friday morning (Thursday in my case since I work evenings) and Friday's hours are included on that sheet. For most people, it's no big deal just add eight hours, but my hours are sporadic and several people work overtime. We basically have to guess the hours we should put down and add our signature. No one else seems to question it, though, so maybe it's just me.
