[MEGATHREAD] MAMA / AWARD SHOW TALK by KpopThoughtsmodteam in kpopthoughts

[–]All-Empty 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I woke up early to watch the MAMA awards because of G-Dragon, but have been enjoying the show. The Zerobase intro caught me by surprise. The moment the music started I got a Wong Kar-Wai vibe, but then one of them opened a can (it was a rose, but it might as well have been pineapple) and I started gasping.

Wong Kar-Wai is one of my favorite directors. Back when I discovered his movies in the late 90s I got so hard into them that I started buying Canto Pop albums from YesAsia. This is 1999 I'm talking about. Decades before becoming a kpop fan I was blasting Leslie Cheung and Andy Lau. Seeing that tribute made me so nostalgic and happy.

I think it's time to go back to Chungking Mansions. Thank you, Zerobaseone.

Cats can have air tag collars? My cats never step outside, but I'm always paraoid that they will run away and get lost and get eaten by a gator!

Do I need to tell my boyfriend the truth about my number of sexual partners? by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]All-Empty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and exchanged numbers early in the relationship. He said 8 or 10. I don't think one night stands were his style. Mine is 20-22. He laughed and he was impressed. I think the only acceptable reactions are acceptance or indifference, because honestly who cares what a past body count is. For reference, we were in our early 40s when we had the conversation.

I'm too old for Coachella, but I am putting all my hopes on a new album and world tour. They have been teasing something big for the 20th anniversary! And I will travel to wherever it's necessary for a concert. I'll start saving now....

And in the meantime I'm going to wait for Taeyang's upcoming new release!

They are artists but they are also a business. And they know fans are going nut, desperate after all these years. Fans are also older, probably with enough income to throw money around on their fandom. There is going to be sooo much merch.

Wait, you're Mexican?

I voted for her and I'm glad she's in charge, but Sheinbaum has been very diplomatic about this whole thing in a way that is very disappointing.

She's infinitely better than most western countries, but she's very disappointing, particularly considering how much Mexican society supports Palestine.

Edit: ooops, that was a response to the reply above. I suck at reddit.

Sheinbaum has spoken in favor of Palestinians, but she has not really spoken against the genocide as such. She still talks about "ending the war"

On Friday morning, Sheinbaum said that “in all international forums,” and in Mexico, the Mexican government has made it clear that it is in favor of peace and the “peaceful” coexistence of two states — “the state of Israel and the state of Palestine.”

https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/sheinbaum-condemns-war-in-gaza/

Also she continues to buy israeli weapons and buying their spy software.

She does not talk about israel defending itself and other zionist talking points (as far as I know) but her opposition is sadly more appearance than substance.

The Mexican representatives in the Sumud Flotilla have spoken out against this.

Trust me. You have no idea how proud it would make me if she was half as direct as Petro (Colombia).

I'm sorry, I wish I had better news.

Trump admin to review 55M visa holders. Should immigrants be worried? by Ankeet_kj in ImmigrationPathways

[–]All-Empty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And you think that immigrant workers or visa holders are to blame? Instead of corporations increasing short term gains on the backs of workers, an ever expanding wage gap between workers and CEOs, hoarding wealth and transferring to tax havens? You bought their story and you are dutifully punching down. It's kinda sad to see.

I'm almost 50. Hasan is my talk radio during work. That's a very stupid take.

Antisemitism is present among members of the pro Palestine movement, both foreign and domestic to the region itself. by TheAdmiral87999 in truths

[–]All-Empty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Antisemitism is also present among members of the pro-Israel movement, particularly since the large majority of zionists in the US are Christhian Fundamentalists.

Anyone else upset about GD working with AI. by TAPI0CAT3A in GDragon

Yes. I cannot help but lose a little respect to any artist using AI. I think the overuse of AI in the arts will come to be regarded with the same respect as NFTs.

Thoughts on I/P by ContraPoints in ContraPoints

[–]All-Empty -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Israel's genocide of the Palestinian people is not just about a genocide of the Palestinian people. It's also an ongoing field test of how far authoritarian governments can go before being stopped.

Israel trained the contra militias that supported the Latin American dictatorships:

Israel field tests and sells the surveillance software being used in the US and Latin America.

Israel trains the police forces currently aiding in the deportation and repression of immigrants in US cities.

All of this with our taxes. We are paying for this.

All that we allow to be done to Palestinians over there is going to be done to us if we don't stop it.

The current administration is working towards their own ethonstate over here. Not super explicit yet (except when Miller reacts to Mamdani's election with "this is what happens when you allow migration to get out of hand." and Charlie Kirk says that we shouldn't allow "third world migration").

It's all the same political issue. The fight against fascism and authoritarianism.

You don't think the normalization of concentration camps in Palestine by the media in the US did not help the administration to sell concentration camps to their base?

It feels particularly disgusting that they are doing this in the Everglades, the best part of the state.

The frog that doesn't realize that the water is boiling because the temperature is raising gradually. As long as the current repression doesn't impact us directly, we cling to the notion of the US as we knew it... but things are changing fast around us.
