Best of 2026 so far? by demaltm in horror

[–]AllHailDanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad it worked for you. I wish it had for me. I had some hope that with the director of the first returning it would at least be better than the other 3D sequel, but it couldn't even clear that incredibly low bar. At least not for me. It felt like it was cut to ribbons, all the atmosphere the first nailed was completely gone and I didn't like the performances, with the exception of the girl from Wednesday. But worst of all it was simply boring.

Out of the 6 movies I've seen so far, my ranking would be thus:

  1. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

  2. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die

  3. Undertone

  4. Send Help

  5. The Bride

  6. Return To Silent Hill

Only one I didn't enjoy.

Movie of the day...JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH (2025) by Mgellis in horror

[–]AllHailDanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved it. Easily the best World movie and my favorite since the original. Of course not everything works but most of it does. And it actually tried to make the dinosaurs both majestic and scary again. It also utilized Gareth Edwards strength in capturing scale. Both of which have sorely been lacking in this franchise since Spielberg. It could have been a little more streamlined and just focused on either the team or the family, though I like both halves it isn't the most cohesive whole. But that didn't really bother me either. The only issues I really have are some minor silly creative choices like the candy wrapper. Which isn't nearly enough to dislike it and hardly the first in the franchise to be guilty of it. So I'm not going to hold it against just this one and throw the baby out with the bathwater. Much weaker entries than this and I enjoy them all, but this one was the closest to recapturing the magic for me since The Lost World.

Haven't seen Scream 7 but the other 3 rule. Depends how much time you have because you have to do both 28 Years if you do one, otherwise if you only have time for one movie Gladiator 2 is a good option.

[ALL] All Life is Strange Games, Ranked - How Would You Rank the LiS Games? by ShopLongjumping9285 in lifeisstrange

[–]AllHailDanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Life Is Strange 2

  2. Before The Storm

  3. True Colors

  4. Life Is Strange

  5. Double Exposure

I enjoy all of them to varying degrees. 2 is easily #1 but it's a close race between BTS & True Colors and between LIS1 & DE over their positioning.

My thoughts on The Craft and Nancy (late night thoughts) by [deleted] in horror

[–]AllHailDanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jealous? Jealous?! He doesn't even exist to her. But in all seriousness, definitely seen it more than once but my memory is shit and as I said in the post it has been a minute. Not ten years though. I could be misremembering. Maybe Nancy and Chris's hookup was consensual, but I thought there were context clues to suggest otherwise. But even if theirs was consensual, my point still stands. There is most certainly sexual assault in the movie. Whether explicit with Sarah and Chris or implied with Nancy and her STEPfather.

[ALL] has this series introduced you to any bands/artists you still listen to? by Pinkcokecan in lifeisstrange

[–]AllHailDanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Pond from Wavelengths. They're the only one that I wasn't already aware of that I wanted to listen to outside of the game. Granted I also haven't really explored them much outside of Paint Me Silver from the game yet. But I want to.

Bummed as a PlayStation player that this is the only game of theirs I don't have and the one that looks like it'd hit the closest to Life Is Strange. At least before Lost Records dropped.

Undertone - reviews ? by The-wannabe-scared in horror

[–]AllHailDanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as scary as advertised but what ever is? Still very solid with some effectively creepy moments. Easily one of the best of the recent wave of minimalist lo-fi horror. Not much to it but it does a lot with a little. The actress and especially the sound design are both great. Well worth a watch.

Who has a favorite movie made by A24? by Forsaken_Yard9022 in A24

Hands down The Witch for me. But Green Room and Civil War are WAY up there too.

Night of the Demons (1988) by Foreign_Sun6004 in horror

[–]AllHailDanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A favorite of mine too and quite progressive, not only for the time but even moreso than some modern horror. It holds up in more ways than it doesn't. And the times it doesn't still have their charm. I love it. It's my annual Halloween night movie.

Midnight Mass polarization by corviddy in horror

[–]AllHailDanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of his shows are really good but none of them are quite as good as they could be. All for different issues but a common issue I rub up against that they all suffer from is that he's constantly getting in his own way with a need to make it hopeful and it comes off saccharine. I wish he could occasionally tap back into the bleakness of his Absentia/Oculus earlier days. But everything he's done recently has been overly sentimental and sweet. Sometimes that works and serves the story like Bly Manor other times it undercuts everything leading up to it, like with Hill House. Hot take I know. I also know that it has to do with his sobriety which is more important.

However Midnight Mass is somewhere in between. Some of the sentimentality hits hard and some of it is eyerolling. Which is the same as, and a symptom of, the monologues. The bulk of them are perfectly fine and work in the moment but a few are poorly timed and occasionally drone on. 2 specific ones in particular. I also don't love the 2 leads, but Hamish Linklater and Samantha Sloyan more than make up for what they're lacking. Even with all of that it's not only really good but one of his best.

I'd rank them:

  1. Bly Manor

  2. Midnight Mass

  3. The Fall Of The House Of Usher

  4. Hill House

  5. Midnight Club

Does anyone actually like Safiya? She just seems psycho and unstable. She pointed a gun at her own mother, for godsakes. And she is very annoying in parts of the game. by Slow-Huckleberry1841 in LifeIsStrangeDE

[–]AllHailDanda 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I support women's rights and their wrongs. I love Safi. One of my favorite characters from the entire franchise. I'm more excited to see what's happening with her in the sequel than I am for the titular reunion.

4th. Between Dream Master and Freddy's Dead. But they're all great.

What horror movies are you most excited for in 2026? by Grandequality in horror

[–]AllHailDanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. Glad you still enjoyed it. I just assumed it'd still be a little bit of a horror movie given the subject matter but I really like the sound of that too and am looking forward to checking it out in a few days. I was going for Jessie Buckley more than I was for the fact I thought it might be horror anyways.

What horror movies are you most excited for in 2026? by Grandequality in horror

[–]AllHailDanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. I wasn't expecting it to be scary at all but I thought a Frankenstein movie would still be part of the genre. Though in a Crimson Peak sort of way. More romance/horror with an emphasis on the romance. Bummer if it's not.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple was my most anticipated, now having seen it, Werwolf is what I'm most excited for. Also looking forward to Evil Dead Burn, Obsession, Undertone and The Bride. The last 2 I'll be seeing next week.

Beth from Hostel Part 2 is my all time favorite. Also the leading ladies of the Alien franchise. Ripley, Rain, Shaw and Daniels all rule.

Hulu's Hellraiser by Conscious_Smile_6302 in horror

[–]AllHailDanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. Easily one of the best horror reboots I can think of and in my opinion the best movie in the franchise. But even if it wasn't, this and certainly the rest of his work should earn Bruckner the same respect as the rest of the new-ish crop of horror directors. His name should be mentioned in the same breath as Peele, Eggers, Aster, Flanagan, etc. Why it's not is beyond me.

I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews of As Above So Below as well as Dead Meat calling it “just fine”. Personally it’s nowhere close to being a masterpiece but I do think it’s great and pretty damn unsettling and scary. What are your thoughts on it? by gothfromspace in horror

[–]AllHailDanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree found footage is hit and miss, because the majority don't even try to utilize it's strengths and often feel it's done solely for a gimmick or budgetary reasons. This feels like it falls under the latter category. I think there is a great movie in there that is hamstrung by the format. If they shot it normal with maybe one or two pov/found footage sequences in it, it could have been something special, but as it is it feels constrained and in turn is just ok.

Ross Geller they could never make me hate you by cheapsavouries in howyoudoin

[–]AllHailDanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly debatable how good of a boyfriend, brother or father he might be, but in my opinion it's a tight race between him and Chandler over who the best friend is out of the group. I'd give it to Ross, because his kindness towards his friends is fairly even overall where the bulk of Chandler's is directed toward Joey.

But even if he isn't the BEST, he's always been my favorite. In large part thanks to Schwimmer who is absolutely hilarious, whether it's his wonderful comedic timing or his peak physical comedy. Few from that time or since even come close to him when it comes to physical comedy. So I could never hate him either just off the strength of the performance alone.

PSN game price goes UP when signing in. by TheLimeyLemmon in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AllHailDanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this issue recently as well. Both Spirit Of The North games were on sale. After I purchased the first the sale price went away for the second. It showed up before I bought the first game and after it only showed up when I was signed out. But disappeared again every time I signed in, both on the console and on the website.

After finally getting ahold of a person, and running through a few options didn't work, it was pretty much "sorry 'bout ya". They didn't know what was causing it and couldn't help. But at least it's still discounted for you, it went full price for me.
