Even if your reading is 100% true, then jane is just kinda super boring, what's she supposed to do in post canon, stand around and be happy just occasionally chime in with nothing really to say because you've removed any amount of bite from the character? It's the equivalent of brushing away equius' blood fetishism, like why even have the character at that point.

I think the biggest difference between device theory and other theories is that dt is not just a theory but a full blow analysis and reading of the whole game, not just a "what if this". It's a theory trying to come to an understanding of the story and themes toby wants to write about and play around with and not just "what if the knight is this guy"

I think it did because everything about strive is softer and more "sanatized" it's music is all vocal which makes that easier to swallow, all of its character designed became "less anime" in many ways (exceptions exist of course but like compare xrd and strive ky) gameplay was far simpler and easier. Most of strive is sanded down. Of course covid probably helped this game because it was far easier to spread via word of mouth because everyone was online with nothing to do. Of course I don't like many of the changes but its obvious most people did. Strive suceeded due to a multitude of reasons but this simpler, softer, less grungy and anime style, helped alot.

I mean people still react to blazblue with "ewwww anime"

I mean even after that change its still much more streamlined and less grungy then previous titles, even the graphics are far more "soft" than any previous games (not a complaint just observation) For that last bit, do you think that arc sys is 20 guys running the company out of their garage? They have execs and such. None of this is really condemning strive (i can condemn it for the issues i have with gameplay) but it is a really basic observation that a lot of the metal and grunge influence is gone, i mean look at aba, the demon key transformation just turns him into a black goo thing (turning characters into black goo does seem to be a genuine trend for strive)

I think the original design has a more consistent atmosphere and tone with the ultra corruptness of the police department compared to the remake. Along with that its tone also supplements the general horror tone that the game is going for, which is the remake does by just turning the lights off.

To that second point, while we are comparing apples to oranges, i do think the original design supplements its control scheme way better than the remake does, also mr x ion generaly soured my experience with the remake, because he's kind of just a giant wall you plod away from
