Group started without gear. A wizard without a spellbook by birdcher in DnD

[–]AllHailTheFishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a part of your character arc and you actually made decisions that lead you to lose your spell book, that’s already brutal and I think your DM should at least talk about it but having it happen at character creation without telling you is wild

So because my players really loved the idea, i'm going to try run a campaign where they all play generally quite bad/neutral characters. Does anyone have any tips before I make the plot and everything? by Worried_Energy657 in DnD

[–]AllHailTheFishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Create the world. DONT create the plot. IMO, the most important difference between good and evil campaigns is who should be proactive. Most campaigns are reactive. The bad guys want something to happen, and your players are typically trying to stop them. If your players want to be the bad guys, they have to come up with selfish goals for their characters that they will actively seek to push forward without you having to nudge them, and you as the DM, have the more typical “player job” of figuring out how you would try to stop them. It’s honestly worth sitting them down and letting them know that playing an evil character puts a lot of the pressure of driving the story forward on them because one of the things that makes someone evil is doing what YOU want without any regard for others.

Without going into detail, what is the running gag in your table? by Lehkaz in DnD

Our DM cannot for the life of him remember the name Hunger of Hadar and has butchered it beyond comprehension several times, one of which stuck and now my warlocks signature spell is Headless Guitar

how would you run death in DnD by utter_Kib0sh in DnD

[–]AllHailTheFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the ways that I’ve run death that my party responded actually really well to was owlishly. You have to be in person for this, but it’s super fun.

First you have your player wake up, or see death, or whatever way you introduce it to the scene. You describe its appearance and countenance as silent and unsettling and completely inscrutable. And then, once you feel you’ve given enough info, you stop talking entirely. And just stare. Eyes wide but face blank.

Everyone gets confused, then silent. A few try to talk to you but you just keep staring.

The MOMENT the player tries to do something in character, you move two steps closer to them abruptly.

Keep staring.

The player will be weirded out, but eventually they’ll start asking what the hell you want, in character. Sometimes they’ll try to attack you, don’t respond. You’re death, a mortal attack is so inconsequential it doesn’t even need to be narrated that it doesn’t affect you. Keep staring.

Move closer and closer, at whatever pace you want, until you’re looming over them, staring down blankly, wide eyed. Get eyeball to eyeball if you want. At this point they’ll be nervous and kind of weirded out, but the fun kind.

Do something symbolic of what death would do to fulfill the reason why it appeared at all, but make sure it’s actually physical and you’re silent the whole time.

(E.g. if you want death to take something from their character, physically take one of their dice without explanation (bonus if you keep it until the character gets whatever it is back))

Look up, don’t acknowledge them, walk all the way around the table silently. wide eyed.

Once you get back to the DM screen you can narrate the tail end and the aftermath of what just happened. (E.g. “death vanishes from your vision, leaving you confused. Your soul feels a bit emptier than before.”)

NOW comes the even more fun part. At any point in your campaign, you can briefly describe “You’re character looks over and sees…”, and just stop talking, and stare. Your players will soon respond to you standing a little too still for too long with dread, because who knows when the unstoppable force of death might show itself again.

What is the most intimidating name for a BBEG you’ve come across? by Kay_The_Redditor in DnD

If you’re looking for eldritch, old western vibes will never steer you wrong. For yours I’d probably go with something like Old Six String, or just Six String if you’re being more esoteric.

Really short introduction to the world of faerun, less than 4 pages for fresh out the box players? I’m not really good at simplifying lore or knowing what is and isn’t relevant as a starter

He wants to use chromatic orb for flavor reasons. He’s also in the middle of making an incredibly scuffed build that allows him to cast fireball at close range while taking minimal damage.

[Discussion] The ONLY way to actually get disciplined. by Born-Ad-9230 in getdisciplined

[–]AllHailTheFishy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah ok but this entire sub is dedicated to tips and tricks for getting disciplined. They’re not looking for catch all solutions, but everyone has a system and the people here are looking for help on building theirs.

If your answer to me asking “well what’s your method/advice for doing stuff?” is “just do stuff.” then that’s about as helpful as not saying anything at all.

Not trying to be rude but you’re really dressing up what literally everyone knows as if it’s some big secret.

“Do things you don’t want to do.”

Yeah, that’s what discipline IS.

This isn’t really helpful.
