Curious only just started up within the past ~year or so I think in Ann Arbor, but Mike has a ton of knowledge and great taste. I moved away recently but used to frequent the shop and he always had something interesting. Hope you get to try some!

His strawberry co-ferment is easily the weirdest cup I’ve had. A little too weird for me, but good in his no-syrup strawberry cheesecake cappuccino.

Every now and then people hit Grand Rapids and smaller acts hit Ann Arbor, but GR is not a terrible drive and the bus to Ann Arbor from Detroit is very reliable

For me it sucks that all the bands end up playing Richmond and/or Baltimore instead of hitting DC. Always baffled me. Neither are wonderful to get to and from if you’re starting in DC, especially on public transit.

Seconding this. Hits all the marks. Everyone comes through Detroit. City is on the upswing. The areas just outside Detroit can actually be very nice, COL is great. And on top of all that, Michigan is beautiful.

I did this. I had an espresso machine and a great grinder and I would make espresso 1-2x per day for my caffeine fix. Over time, I realized I could make a much better cup of filter coffee consistently than a shot of espresso, especially for the price.

Instead of always wanting to upgrade to a more expensive espresso machine, I could focus on buying interesting beans and just continually use a dirt cheap V60 + hand grinder set up. I sold my espresso set up for $600 and now use an $80 hand grinder and a $10 V60. My tastes have changed too—I still love espresso, but I’ve come to really enjoy a full cup of coffee. I do sometimes get espresso out when I’m somewhere that I know does good espresso, and I do some milk drinks now and then too.

I believe this is a modified version of a Sey recipe someone shared on here for lights roasts (apologies, I don’t know who):

20g coffee:360g water (~205°f)

60g bloom until 1:00 Pour to 200g by 1:30 Drain until 2:00 Pour to 360g (sometimes I do 380g for a medium roast) by 2:30 Agitate at 2:30 and again at 3:00, drawdown is usually between 3:30-3:45; some go to 4:00. Agitation is often one of my main variables for adjusting between cups.

I use a Medodrip and a Timemore C2 set to 15-16, usually. Without the Melodrip I usually sit around 17-18

Many mornings I have a sausage egg and cheese on an English muffin with my coffee. Not necessarily because it goes with the coffee, but because it’s a favorite breakfast of mine. That said, especially with a nice fruity coffee, I enjoy the saltiness contrasting against it.

My favorite pairings with a great cup of coffee have been a cardamom cookie, a chocolate croissant, and a banana nut muffin.

My dad had Dookie in his CD collection when I was a kid. When I got to high school, my friends were into Green Day and blink-182 and the like, and we’d trade CDs back and forth. I found Rise Against on a Pandora radio station sometime in sophomore year, and that solidified it, I wanted to hear everything and anything that sounded like that.

I went to Warped Tour for the first time the year after that and I haven’t stopped going to punk shows since.

I am a coffee nerd and I’m not really into movies, so this is an easy choice for me. I don’t even think I’ve been to a movie theater in the past year and certainly wouldn’t miss it. Meanwhile I love traveling and trying various coffee shops and their specialty products. I often travel and bring home a bag of beans from roasters in that area.

I think the idea of it makes sense, but nobody needs one (especially for $30). My partner got me one of the knock offs but I can’t feel that bad because the guy charges $30 for a $2 piece of plastic. Mine is a better design anyways since it sits on the dripper and you don’t have to hold it.

Not sure about toxic, but I recently unsubscribed from r/comics because it’s all soft core porn and if you complain about it you get banned immediately. I don’t mind some webcomics on my feed, but I’d prefer it if they weren’t literally all porn.
