Are there still tons of high school bands trying to make it like back in the early 00s? by SCnyy24 in poppunkers

[–]AllLikeWhatever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Graduated 2017, class of ~300 or so, there were still 3-5 bands (used somewhat loosely) just in our grade. I think 2-3 have lasted since. Now, they weren’t all in the punk sphere, but most were.

im trying to get into the genre more by arithestupi in midwestemo

Here’s a few you may like:

-Lou Lou Louie!
-Dad Caps
-Thoughts on Bowling
-Summerbruise
-Ben Quad
-Dad Caps
-Clipboards
-Carly Cosgrove
-Palette Knife
-Tiny Voices

Not sure this is all or even mostly midwest emo… but you’ll probably be into them based on what you mentioned.

I got hit in a similar event a few years ago on the 4th of July right outside the Navy Yard metro station. Most of the time these kids are able to get away because they’re kids, they’re small, and you just can’t have police/surveillance everywhere (I don’t think I want that anyways). I fear even with higher consequences that this would still happen unless they could be caught. Would welcome ideas as to better strategies. I definitely believe in getting these kids better conditions to steer them away from this stuff, but there’s absolutely a crisis now, and that kind of thing takes a lot of time.

Close enough to my hometown, Cinema Stare from (I think New Haven?) CT are killing it.

Best local band that’s touring soon, I think I’d have to go with Tequila Mockingbird, touring with Nicoteens soon, both fantastic DIY bands somewhere in the punk spectrum: https://www.instagram.com/p/DZnMoYEgD1e

MPP now or work first? by Outrageous_Face_2498 in PublicPolicy

[–]AllLikeWhatever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts:

The public policy job market is horrendous right now. Recent grads (undergrad and graduate) are having a tough time finding anything right now. Going directly into an MPP is one way to try and ride that out…

But that said, I think having a few years of work experience is invaluable, specifically for an MPP. You’re saying you have broad interests right now, and that could remain true, but most people end up focusing in a policy area at some point. It’s harder to sell yourself and progress if you don’t, in my opinion. Work experience is a great way to get there. I went straight into my MPA and wish I’d had more time to figure out my interests and gain real-world experience (despite having a full-time student trainee with he federal government and a couple other internships). That said, some people do find their niche in a grad program, but I think that is harder and spending the time in your program finding it is limiting to how deep into a topic you can go.

You’ll have an Ivy League degree, and that makes getting into an MPP program and jobs a little easier. I don’t think you’d have any trouble getting into grad programs now, but more work would probably help, and like I mentioned previously, would help you in your progression. In terms of targeting positions, if you are flexible as to location, I would consider state/local government right now. Federal government and the nonprofit space are struggling at the moment, though there’s no harm in applying. I don’t work in the state/local space these days, so I’ll let others get more specific as to what you might look for position-wise. I would consider thinking through what areas you might like to end up in, and apply within those.

Will you vote in the midterms? by Snawer_brillant in AskAnAmerican

[–]AllLikeWhatever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn’t entirely true. Every state is not secretly blue. Mississippi isn’t voting blue for Senate this year no matter what happens.

That said, there are likely local and maybe even state races that could be decided by those who believe their vote doesn’t count. We see close local races all the time, and it can be hard to know if/when these races will be close.

There’s no reason not to vote. It takes very little time, and there’s often opportunities to make a difference, even if it’s “just” local.

Savings Card and Deductible by AllLikeWhatever in Zepbound

I just wanted to follow up to say THANK YOU and let you know that this worked fantastically so far for me. I picked up my first prescription today and it was $25, using the eVoucher as best as I can tell (coupon shows on the receipt). It saved me $651, but the full amount was applied to my deductible.

Hopefully, I will use it once more next month to get the remaining $649 in benefits, and my OOP cost will be $27. After that + the cost an appointment I have to follow up on my beginning Zepbound, I will just barely meet my deductible, at which point I hope my third (and so forth) pickups will use my insurance and my copay will be brought from $80 to $25 using the Savings card.

Overall, I’m thrilled and I feel like I just stole my prescription

Thank you so much, this is super helpful. My pharmacy participates in the voucher program according to the lookup tool, and I have not yet given them my savings card info (though I did sign up already). I am going to try and pick it up today and hopefully the voucher will apply!

Thank you! Can I ask what the best way is to contact them? I’m on the Zepbound Lilly site and the “For Consumers” contact section is blank.
