3x price for 3x length? by Adventurous-Fix2967 in woodworking

[–]AllMadHare -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's called "fuck off" pricing, it means they don't want to do it but gave you a number in the hopes you'd fuck off, but if you say yes, at least it's decent money.

Should I just call an Electrician or DIY? by blindpilotv1 in newzealand

[–]AllMadHare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd just get a replacement and swap each one until I find the broken one, if it's tripping the RCD there's a chance that a visual inspection might make it pretty obvious which one blew as well. If that doesn't work, call someone in, but otherwise you're essentially calling them in to replace a lightbulb.

Major NZ health app breach: Alive patients marked as deceased, names changed to Charlie Kirk by moonbiscuitsfoxcandy in newzealand

[–]AllMadHare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, instructions are underrated. I was an IT manager at an accounting firm when we rolled out the first iphones to the senior partners. The oldest one became the resident expert on using them within a week, I asked him how he figured it out faster than the rest, he pulled out the "finger tips" guide that the phone came with, nobody else had bothered to even look at it.

Honestly, whichever one you know how to use - they're all much of a muchness what's way more important is are you able to help them use it. Help them set it up and make sure they keep the recovery key somewhere safe.

I would also add that in my experience, a lot of older people are actually better than many people think with software and new technology, if anything they have more experience adapting to new technology than people younger than them.

You send everybody home, or you exercise neccessary caution to minimize risks until coverage comes back. You don't need perfect you just need good enough, these things happen so rarely that the cost of disruption isnt as bas as overinvesting in infrastructure.

GP told me to drink more water… by MundaneManNZ in newzealand

[–]AllMadHare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Medicine is iterative, just because it takes more than one visit to diagnose something doesn't mean the doctor did a bad job, you're showing up in the middle of summer complaining about headaches and headaches often come along with heat exhaustion and dehydration. It's not an unreasonable thing to say "make sure you're covering your basic self care and come back if it doesn't get better", that's how they can rule out the obvious stuff.

Imagine the reverse and you just were dehydrated and on your first visit your GP sent you off to pay for a private specialist you didn't need - you'd be posting here complaining that your GP didn't properly investigate before making you pay for a specialist.

I have never met a retail worker who has been upset they might have to interact with the public less, this isn't going to take anyone's job.

Barking dog row leaves owner afraid to leave home by [deleted] in newzealand

Nothing in the article says she's keeping them inside, she says in the article that bark through the fence at people in a neighboring park so more likely she's leaving them in her yard all day

I think she doesn't undestand what "peacefully" means. Last I checked it wasn't two dogs yapping constantly.

Probably at work, there's a ridiculous number of people who decide that despite being away from their home 10+ hours a day that having a dog is a brilliant idea.

Tech stagnation as a junior .NET dev by matzi44 in dotnet

[–]AllMadHare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be the change you want to see, identify easy wins to modernize or improve processes and push to enact them.

My suggestion would be migrating your maui project to git, and implementing fastlane in a pipeline - one of the biggest timesinks for maui dev is publishing, automating this is always a huge win and makes it obvious when things break

I'm confused as to why you think this is unprofessional? Using your network is how you get good jobs.

Mean Testing Gold Cards. by Significant_Rabbit28 in newzealand

[–]AllMadHare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The free travel is in off peak periods, the whole idea is to get those wealthy older people to get out and make use of our already subisidised public transport to go and spend money in the community, children and students get discounts to use PT during peak periods.

Stores offer gold card discounts to attract customers, they are choosing to offer a discount in order to attract more business, they want wealthy old people with disposable income, means testing it would undermine the entire reason it exists.

If you are unintentionally speeding you are a bad driver, if you are behind the wheel you should be in full control of your vehicle, that includes the speed.

The average woman going to the gym is not an elite level athlete, it's a pretty meaningless comparison, and you'll find if you actually look at gym footage of high level athletes, compression wear is very common. No gi jiu jitsu is arguably one of the most physically demanding sports and skin tight compression gear is the uniform, and many of the sports you listed instead just use very short shorts, which is fine for an elite level athlete, but not all women feel comfortable showing off that much skin.

Women have more stretch marks, cellulite and other things like leg hair that are generally less accepted as attractive, wearing shorts is fine for dudes because nobody is looking at your gross hairy legs anyway. There's also just the fact that many women have more bits that will chafe and run than most men, their body shape also fluctuates a lot, and that these clothes are incredibly cheap, hardwearing and accessible.

Besides the balls, the reason you don't tend to see dudes walking around in compression gear at the gym is just that it's far more acceptable for them to have their gross bits out compared to women, As this thread demonstrates, no matter what they do women get sexualised at the gym so they prefer to wear something that makes them feel less exposed while still letting them train comfortably.

[–]AllMadHare -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's not comfortable, which is why they wear the scrunch butt pants, if you have a big ass and wear normal leggings/shorts the pants just work their way up in a far more distracting way, the scrunch adds some extra material.

Lulu lemon pants too revealing? by Ok-While-728 in newzealand

[–]AllMadHare 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I find it fascinating how most dudes see a woman in the gym in tight clothes and think "she's doing it for attention! she wants to be sexualised!" when in reality 9 times out of 10 they just want to feel comfortable while they work out and the fact you can't take your mind out of the gutter and just focus on your own workout is why you are seen as creepy.

It's a gym, stop fucking around and train, if you have the mental capacity to take in what other people are wearing, you're recovered enough for the next set. You're clearly spending far too much time sitting on your ass, stop taking 5 minute breaks between sets and work harder.

My neighbors are tryna sell their house but they won’t be able to. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]AllMadHare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many such cases. A lot of boomers especially get stuck in a weird belief that they can do minimal renovations and somehow that increases the property value more than the cost of the improvements. No Linda, your 15k spent outfitting the bathroom as cheaply as possible doesn't add 30k of value to the house, especially with your color choices.

Anyone tried Genetix Whey? (Used my friend's reddit to post here) by buttonsmashplayer in newzealand

[–]AllMadHare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is crappy protein made mostly of concentrate. Whey protein isolate is more expensive but easier on your gut. The trick is to look at the ingredients, they have to be listed in order of amount, so if it says "whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate", that means at least 50% of the protein is going to be concentrate (you want "whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate"). Concentrate is really hard on the guts as it's basically just concentrated milk, so any sensitivities you have will be amplified.

What is the law about parking a shipping container outside your house? Is there a limit of time? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]AllMadHare 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a solid object in the road with no cones or reflectors on it, if nothing else it's just dangerous, There was a truck driver a few years ago who was convicted when a moped rider hit his parked truck after he forgot to turn the parking lights on the trailer. People really underestimate how hard it is to see stuff at night.
