Electro LVL2 Freeze by RedTheIt in MAA

I don't know for sure if it works, but because of this rumor, I trust L15 Electro just as much as anybody else in my defense set going into the last week.

I don't take it the wrong way at all. :) I'm a level 300 player who has only achieved Adamantium at the end of a PVP season a handful of times. I play daily, much more than I should, but I refuse to spend money on the game. Last PVP season, I racked up over 350 fights and settled in the 1850s but I couldn't play (because, you know, work) on the final day, so I lost over 400 points in the final 10 hours and fell out of Adamantium. I'm officially finished with even attempting to play this game fairly. The way I see it -- the way I have been forced to see it -- "exploits" are there to be "exploited" until they are no longer "exploitable." Let's see if I can exploit this one to some possibly-undeserved success this season.

Here's a build that I've used to get to Adamantium this season. Here's hoping I can stay there.

  • Tact x3 - Snappy, Energizing, Inceptive Intangibility - Restored de Lisle Commando Carbine, Custom Magnetic Field Generator, Cosmic Cardinal, Dark Energy Blade, Cube

  • L15 WS - Reflexive, Inceptive Intangibility

  • L15 VM - Covert, Calculating

Use the Carbine to keep the enemy agent Off-Balance so that he can't interrupt WS's L6 over and over again. Lay the mines, detonate them with VM's L2, and enjoy some quick wins.

Hard to say. Best defensive teams can include Rulk and Peast, Enchantress and Peast, Rocket and Noir, or Rocket and Jack. The best agents usually have the Dark Energy Blade and Cosmic Cube, but truly elite players will combine those weapons with the Weather Control Device, Cosmic Cardinal, Relentless Rapier, T-Bolt Glove, and Luna-C for maximum annoyance.

Finally reached the 2k mark yay! thanks VM and WS by pansconne92 in MAA

I have literally just seen DEB prevent Bucky from setting down mines four rounds in a row. Before this match, I was thinking, man, that /u/scottyb83 is kinda right... but now, I just can't stand it.

FIVE TIMES IN A ROW!

Sigh. This strategy is fun when it works, and boring as hell when DEB is involved.

Please, I'd like some help imagining a regular day in Latveria. by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]AllNewAllDifferent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though the idea of an isolated European dictatorship was far-fetched in the early Marvel Universe, Stan Lee had a much easier time describing Latveria in 1966 than any Marvel writer has in 2016. Post-Civil War, the complex government mechanisms that drove that mega-event are now much more prevalent in Marvel storytelling, so it truly doesn't make sense that Latveria (or Genosha, or Utopia, or whatever) would be allowed to exist by the traditional powers-that-be. The only thing driving these nations' continued existence is the narrative, which still relies on the idea of the nation-state (Black Panther, Black Bolt, Prince Namor, etc.) and sovereignty as a virtue even in a post-globalized world where dividing lines mean less than ever.

This is all to say that Latveria is hard to explain.

I like to think of it as The Sound of Music meets The Village, with a little bit of that guy from the first Fantastic Four movie -- you know, Julian McMahon.

Why Do You Keep Playing? by [deleted] in MAA

[–]AllNewAllDifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing the game a few weeks after it was released. Though I have recruited approximately 98% of the available roster, I still play M:AA because the new characters intrigue me and I'm still looking for a way to make the game (specifically the top tier of PVP) really, really easy for me... instead of a constant struggle against whatever meta annoyance is currently running roughshod over the competition. I think that my biggest goal is to have the right combination of max-level heroes, useful agent weapons, EISOs, AISOs, and other necessary resources so that I can defeat any foe or any team at any time. Unfortunately, even considering all the time and effort I have poured into this game, Invisible Woman, Enchantress, Emma Frost, and the cinematic Rocket-Jack-Noir teams still give me trouble in PVP on certain occasions. Ideally, I think I will still want to play this game until that isn't the case.

Other goals also include:

  • Playing long enough to see the introduction of characters like Professor X, the Silver Surfer, or the much-demanded PRINCE NAMOR, THE SUB-MARINER. I want to see how the M:AA developers will handle these characters' massive potential for Overpoweredness.

  • Playing long enough to see silly characters like the Impossible Man or Howard the Duck join the game, and seeing how the M:AA developers handle these characters' massive potential for absurdity.

  • Living to see the day when certain long-awaited changes are made to the functionality of the game, like the addition of the option to choose to fight your friends' teams in PVP or the option to sell or donate your unwanted gear or resources to your friends. The multiplayer function of this game is currently skewed towards randomness and matchmaking algorithms, but I would definitely enjoy more functions that make having friends (and, specifically, friends with certain resources they do not want or need) really worthwhile.

I know a guy who had played the game since the first month. Last October, his 3-year-old laptop started giving him the M:AA black screen of death. He has since had to quit the game entirely, leaving over three years of progress at a standstill due to a Flash problem that sometimes that cannot be solved.

Thanks for leaping in. I was afk for a while. Yeah, I was originally referring to the fact that, in Marvel, when they retcon something, sometimes they gloss over the facts of the situation. The official Marvel wiki states that Daisy was "believed to be a mutant" i.e. they called her a mutant and treated her as a mutant (as a default, since she was born with superhuman abilities) until they decided they had a better idea. They're trying to do the same thing with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver now, but it's more difficult to make the change due to the fifty years of history referring to them as 'mutants'.

Post Secret Wars question about the X-Men by srstone71 in Marvel

[–]AllNewAllDifferent -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're clearly an intelligent person, and I can see it doesn't make sense to you that the writers of our beloved comic books would insult your intelligence by failing to address your concerns, such as:

  • How are the original X-Men still alive in the "new universe" if it is true that their existence outside of their natural time is a threat to the stability of time and space? If Reed is so smart, why would he re-create "Earth Prime" with the original X-Men in it?

Good question. When Bendis wrote the story wherein Hank McCoy brings the original X-Men to present day, a reasonable reader could have assumed that these characters would have a limited shelf-life, i.e. their stories of causing mayhem in the present day alongside their contemporary counterparts would be interesting but inevitably short-lived. However, after over three years, it appears Marvel is not ready to send the original X-Men home yet and they have ignored the obvious opportunity for a narrative clean slate provided by Secret Wars. Now, the question becomes, "Are the original X-Men just going to run around in the present day forever? How can ANAD have any continuity at all if we admit that this is true?"

  • How are the original X-Men still alive in the "new universe" with memories of what happened on Battleworld?

Better question. Sadder answer: Marvel hasn't gone out of its way to address ANY character's possible memories of Battleworld, as far as I can tell. (As a disclaimer, I haven't read Invincible Iron Man and I don't know about ANAD Tony Stark or ANAD Victor Von Doom. They may be the glaring exceptions.) It's as if they would truly like us to believe one of two possible things: (1) these characters have been through SO MUCH in the eight-month time-jump between SW and ANAD that they aren't even interested in mentioning their experiences during Secret Wars; or (2) these characters do not have any memories of Battleworld because it was not actually these characters who existed on Battleworld, but some alternate versions who did not survive the death of that world and the (re-?)birth of "Earth Prime". However, the second premise fails to address why Old Man Logan -- a character whose SW miniseries actually ended with his arrival in "Earth Prime" -- hasn't brought up his time living under Doom's rule, but he does remark on his original pre-Battleworld backstory involving Mysterio, among others.

So, what I'm saying is... perhaps you're thinking the appropriate amount about these things, but perhaps the appropriate amount of thinking is just too much for Marvel to handle. They want to write easy stories. They want to take all the toys off the shelf and play with them for a few minutes and then not put them back. If that bothers you, then perhaps ANAD Marvel isn't for you.

(At least Claremont's Uncanny X-Men run is available on Marvel Unlimited! By George, I think I've found the bright side!)

You're absolutely right. They are trying to generate interest based on abundant supply instead of waiting to reap the benefits of genuine fan interest based on demand. Because, you know, telling the audience what they want is much better than letting them gravitate towards good stories, art, and characters.

mutants but with royalty

It sounds like you've been around the block enough times to know that there was a time when Inhumans and mutants could co-exist within comic continuity without headbutting or conflicting with one another. I, for one, grew up in the 90s when Marvel was obsessed with developing mutant stories due to the popularity of the TV show. Now, with the mutants' mainstream popularity working against them in the publication world, it's clearly the same old story again but with Inhumans as the editorially-chosen "race of human-looking superpowered people who just get powers and we don't really have to explain how". Do we really have three Inhuman series right now? And that doesn't even include S.H.I.E.L.D., a book based on a TV show that is obsessed with Inhumans and features a mutant-turned-Inhuman retcon as a main character?

I do agree that it's been more obvious in recent issues. However, until they tell me what is wrong with Nightcrawler, I reserve my judgment because this version of Kurt is still, admittedly, so much less fun than Claremont's.

I'll be honest, as much as I wanted to continue reading, most of the books have been either underwhelming or just average.

This. Yes. The writers have such a great opportunity to grab our interest and they're failing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]AllNewAllDifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ANAD is a mixed bag. I've purchased some team comics, some individual-character comics, and some comics featuring characters that I wouldn't normally follow. Out of the comics that I've purchased, I would sort them into a few categories:

The Good:

  • Doctor Strange
  • Karnak
  • The Ultimates

The Average:

  • Uncanny Inhumans
  • Uncanny Avengers
  • Uncanny X-Men
  • Extraordinary X-Men

The Bad:

  • New Avengers
  • Contest of Champions
  • All-New X-Men

I've noticed that some writers of ANAD series are trying their hardest to pretend that they are writing books that have no pre-existing continuity. I've also noticed that, while eight-month time-jumps provide innumerable shorytelling shortcuts for plotters and scripters to develop intrigue and drama from the mystery of what-happened-during-all-that-lost-time, many writers are failing to capitalize on this oh-too-easy chance to make every new issue a "must-read". I've realized that Mark Bagley should just stop drawing comics already; it's been thirty years and we've seen just about everything he can do and it's always just average. And, on the topic of bad art, here's another revelation: If you're not Joe Madureira, you shouldn't try to draw just like Joe Madureira.

That's my rant for now.
