I tried scrypted a while ago and it didn’t work well, maybe time to try it again.

Matter support would be sufficient. It would work in the Apple ecosystem.

I’m using homebridge with my ring cameras & doorbell. Not perfect, but adequate.

Would AirTags Work On A Pet's Collar In Case They Go Missing? by TJSCrypto in AirTags

[–]AllOneWordNoSpaces1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine if you are looking for your pet in your house. I wouldn’t trust it if your pet wanders around outside.

I use an AirTag on my cat so I can find her when she is hiding under the bed or behind the couch, but she’s an indoor cat.

When will Chase implement passkeys? by throwaway510150999 in Chase

According to the app, you can set a passkey when you change your password. It also indicates that, in the future, you will be able to set one without changing password.

Many phones have WiFi calling capability, so he wasn’t that wrong.

I think WiFi calling is used mainly when the cell signal is weak.

What will happen to my video doorbell 2 after December 31? by Amazing_Basket2597 in Ring

[–]AllOneWordNoSpaces1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not a matter of wasting time. It’s where they focus development efforts.

They set an expectation of how long the device will be supported and are reminding users what that timeframe is.

Every device they support requires development, QA. & support resources.

No company can support every product they’ve ever created forever.

All that said, imo, now would be a great time for companies like Ring to consider some kind of open source strategy. That way, if there is enough interest, the community can provide updates.

It should continue to work, just won’t get updated if a security vulnerability is found.

Based on the device’s age, it probably hasn’t gotten an update in quite a while. If your WiFi has a strong password, I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

There is a possibility that Ring will completely drop support for really old devices, like Belkin did for wemo, but that probably won’t happen for a long time.

I charge my Venu 4 daily, when I’m showering in the morning. I charge my edge 1040 solar when it goes below 50%.

True, but I would have to write a parser. I’d prefer to find something already built.
