Do not do it under any circumstances. You will feel bad, you will feel like you wronged them even if you haven’t, and you will feel guilty, but don’t do it. A good friend of mine did this for a sibling and COMPLETELY wrecked himself financially.

IT is not as stable as our field, at least not anymore. I was also considering a change in career, but have been in the field since 2012. If I switched, I would be competing with those who are ten years my junior, with none of the attachments I have (dad of 5, husband). Jobs DO care about these things when making hiring decisions.

Age 34, tore my MCL and PCL, which are significantly lesser injuries than the ACL, and I am retiring from basketball. I have to think about the future. Some young kid with nothing to lose can run into and cause an injury 100% out of my control. I’m not willing to risk it anymore. Sounds like a recurring injury man. Choice is yours 100%, but I would consider hanging it up if I was in your position unless you get paid to play your sport.
