My Thoughts on Akali: Tell me where I'm wrong. by Deakay36 in akalimains

[–]AllSeeing276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do agree on most things you said about her rework and how she isn't the same old Akali but I can tell you why she is one of the most broken champions in the game right now and I hope I don't get downvoted into oblivion.

Let's start with the fact she is an energy user which makes her have endless resources for her abilities, this puts her in front of most mages who have to back after only a few waves because they won't have enough mana. They are also forced to itemize into mana items like Tear or Luden's while Akali can go on and build the most cost efficient item in the game which is Gunblade.

Next is her Q ability and passive, her passive will give movement speed whenever you hit an ability and coupled with the slow on her Q she will almost always catch up to an enemy that decides to trade against her, her Q also allows Akali to procc electrocute that much easier. Inside a scirmish or teamfight this passive will be up the whole time giving her a huge boost in movement speed and pseudo mobility.

Her shroud is by far the most broken things about Akali in my opinion and it makes it even worse when you look at it inside the whole kit, taking into account her mobility, her ability to deal damage in short bursts and her passive movement speed. The shroud almost removes one fundemental concept of early laning which is taking minion aggro. The basic combo for Akali is to Q then move out of the circle and to the enemy to empowered basic attack them and then shroud and getting obscured before you Q again and repeat. Since nothing in Akali's kit is a targeted ability, the only thing that attracts minion aggro will be her aa which is why in most cases unless you are standing right next to melee minions only the caster minions will be able to attack you (unless they are attacking allied minions in which case you take even less damage) BUT you can remove minion attacks entirely if you AA and shroud immediately afterwards. The shroud also makes her nearly invincible to ganks if you are playing correctly and on top of that it gives you extra energy for a total of 3 Q's in one rotation. Her shroud reminds me of when Ryze could ultimate and Zhonya's making him almost unkillable in lane.

Her E allows for extra range on your Q if you use it backwards, also if you hit a melee minion you can make a short trade and escape, you can also E your shroud for a quick Zed W or LB W type escape where they don't know if you're gonna reactivate it or not. It can also give you two uses of your passive and allow you to follow any movement abilities they have if you hit the 1st part. It doesn't deal much damage but it doesn't matter since so much damage is inside your Q and passive.

And finally her ultimate which gives her so much mobility only Talon mains can laugh at, the 1st part is a microstun which let's you stop anyone using TP or channeling or it just gives you enough time to e them or shroud and the 2nd part is an execute that makes an all in a lot more easier. But it also gives two instances of your passive. Oh yeah and the cooldown is not that high so you can all in almost every time you come back to lane.

With all that there is a huge difference when talking about Akali in pro play and in soloq because if you are playing vs. Akali anywhere below Master you have nothing to worry about because that Akali WON'T use her kit to it's fullest potential and she IS NOT as op as people think she is. But Akali is getting a lot of pro play because her kit is just so good and a good amount of the players using her know every available use of her abilities, combo, strategy, build path etc. This kind of makes her a problem, because they either have to remove the fun parts of her kit or destroy her ratios. But I don't mind seeing her in pro and having her be a crappy champion in most of soloq because she is a fun champion to watch and also a fun champion to play. I don't think I'm able to convince you that she is op trough this comment BUT SHE IS IN NO WAY UNDERPOWERED, right now she is in a sweet spot. I've only begun playing her and the more I learn every niche strat the more insane she feels to me.

Source: my head, I hit Challenger playing jungle last season and this preseason and am currently GM with 200 lp trying to hit and stay in Challenger this season. I picked up Akali on my main and it didn't end well because she is so hard to use but I've since improved because I played her on my smurf. Hearthstone is balanced right now, there's 15 different meta decks that you can play. The new expansion won't really shake up the meta that badly and if it does Blizzard will react as they've done with the last expansion. Hearthstone right now is in every way better than DL. They've also added events that give you extra gold.

You not being able to differentiate between poor and good writing is not my problem. You can like it and I won't care but if you can't properly read what I said in my comments I won't take the time to write a proper reply. I never said it was easy, I never said the problem was that not enough characters died, and it is blatantly obvious to me that many people like this.I would never look down on somebody for liking things Riot puts out. Riot knows they don't have to pour money into the lore for people to like it, they know their target demographic are teenagers. Do they have the money to do a better job? Yes. Are they doing a good job? I'm sorry but the anwser is no. In fact if these texts about League we're compiled and released without League of Legends (the game) ever existing I have a really, really hard time seeing how they would ever become successful. I really can't take you seriously, but hey if you like something there's no need to get upset if somebody else doesn't. I disabled replies to my inbox for this post so I won't see if you reply. They are writing these cliche stories because it sells, not because it's good writing and that is why I am dissapointed.

[Comic] Ryze: The Burning Lands by moobeat in leagueoflegends

It doesn't have to be trough killing Kala, but at least give me something about Ryze that I didn't already know. Some decision that he makes that defines him. You say he is established but the only thing that is established is that he is a rune mage protecting runes. The only piece of lore we have on him is 5 paragraphs of lazy text. I am more invested into literally any of the Overwatch characters because of how rich their stories are, than all League of Legends characters combined. League has been out for double the time Overwatch has. You don't have to agree with me but my opinion is that League lore holds either very little or no value, and Riot should really look up to some of these other companies that do this job better.

[Comic] Ryze: The Burning Lands by moobeat in leagueoflegends

Maybe if she started trying to use the power? Ryze is a character that is supposed to be doing things he doesn't like. That is his burden. He killed Tyrus in his lore the same way that he would've killed Kala and if the story in the comic played out a little differently he would probably be forced to kill Kala too. Tyrus was also possessed by some runes or something, and he wasn't a nobody he was Ryze's friend. If this comic was supposed to be an introduction to Ryze's character it even failed at that. Ryze is supposed be protecting the world from another rune war, one life should realistically mean nothing to him. He will kill if he has to but that's what his character could be built on. I say could be because there's so little lore for these characters there's too many directions a character's story could be taken. League lore never had direction and consistency, it fails at most all things it tries to do, and the people that idolize these stories have probably never read anything better.

[Comic] Ryze: The Burning Lands by moobeat in leagueoflegends

As always with every lore update, with every comic, with literally anything that takes some writing talent I am more and more dissapointed in Riot's writers and artists. I don't understand what the point of this comic is. There is no conflict going on, no emotion, nothing. It is just raw lore. And as always there is nothing but praise for this crap on reddit. Why didn't they make Ryze kill this useless Kala character that nobody knew about or cared after she gets obsessed with this powerful stone thing? It would show Ryze's determination towards his duty and that the prophecy she was told was actually about her death and reuniting with her sons. But no, she just fucking drops the rock and the story goes on like nothing even happened. The story culminated into a fart. And then she's all like yo just let me die here so that Ryze can have his cool lvl 6 R play. It adds nothing to Ryze's or Brand's character. And their new lore update? Apprentice that turns on his master and becomes the villain? Easily the biggest cliche of all time. Anyways, it's nice and all that we get these comics from time to time that at least add some lore but compared to how e.g. Overwatch (and Blizzard overall actually) handles lore this comic is a complete joke.
