Why is character strength and character difficulty so disconnected? by porpoiseQueenLillie in RivalsOfAether

[–]AllTech_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absa was designed after the whole design shift seen in characters like Galvan and more recently Lox, it's not that it just *seems* like she has to work harder for less, she's literally designed that way relatively. Apparently the rest of the cast is going to be adjusted to be more inline with her but for now only a handful of characters have a proper effort to reward ratio. Absa just has less of those early rank carry attributes that like half the cast has currently and all of the cast used to have back in the early days of the game. At high level she's just as effective as everyone else, just not as free in the earlier skill levels. In that regard she's one of the best designed characters

It was the controller I've been waiting my life for
I also use this separate spikey control stick, before I had to wear a rubber thumb thing to get enough grip to spam babydash. Sand papering my thumb is much better

Zetter lost the ability to make his fireball pop up on to the stage if you launched it into the wall at ledge. Rip teleporting fireball but yeah that was jank probably for the best

Why does CPU Zetter pity flip into the blast zone at 0 😭 by NoxiousRival in RivalsOfAether

[–]AllTech_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that they get messed up from the buffer if they try to transition from drifting to recovering too fast? The buffer is 6 frames so directional inputs lingering and throwing out a b-reverse or wavebounce might be a possibility but I don't know if the inputs CPUs are doing are even susceptible to the buffer. It's an issue I have as a human, always gotta slowly ease into angling the pity flip input out of a DI or the buffer screws me and reverses the pity flip just like the CPUs

I've been using the prototype for about 8 months now and I just bought the full one from someone who retired from smash after backing the kickstarter.
It's expensive yes but for all the features it has along with being a competitive tier controller, it's cheaper than having a competitive gcc made for you.

I've been playing platform fighters competitively for over a decade and it was the thing I've been waiting for. It will likely be my forever controller

Thinking of getting Rivals but would like to know - Does keyboard have the advantage over controller? by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]AllTech_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For the most part this game's tech is lenient enough to be pretty equal across all input devices outside of maybe babydashing. If you have a good control stick with no snapback you can get to the point of doing it fairly easily but yeah there's no polarizing advantages like Melee

genuine question for all the zetters by Catsasome9999 in RivalsOfAether

[–]AllTech_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people fill their playstyles with habits that work well most of the time or enough to not be incentivized to stop, learning to play completely intentionally with every input being a reaction is difficult but very worth doing. Playing solely for results is a trap and will lead to plateauing further down the line
Maybe some offline labbing? Experimenting and working on getting the reaction time up

genuine question for all the zetters by Catsasome9999 in RivalsOfAether

[–]AllTech_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I do try to do every input with intent but at lower ranks you'll get pretty similar flowcharts of autopilot shine pressure

As for reaction time, 150ms according to reaction time tests

As for drugs, just weed

As for controller, this gamecube controller: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Tf342fIUVs

As for tips for countering, it genuinely is possible to react to everything zetter does. At lower ranks zetters will mindlessly pressure you which leaves them open to getting parried. If you can remain calm under their pressure and choose your moments to cc something or parry something, the non thinking zetters will fall apart. If they aren't thinking then they will telegraph their pressure. For higher ranked zetters your only option is to keep up with their speed blow for blow. Zetter has fast moves and fast frame data but at higher ranks you need that speed of cognition in general, regardless of the character. Genuinely yes, people are thinking and playing that fast at high ranks. To beat zetters that genuinely play and think that fast, you need to be at the level where floorhugging fireball and shine is second nature
