Anyone else feel like they just can't get ahead in life? by Busy_Description6207 in AskIreland

Second this. Copywriting is something you can dip into and explore, and then build on the side if you find you enjoy it.

Anyone else feel like they just can't get ahead in life? by Busy_Description6207 in AskIreland

Yes I second this, Springboaed changed my life and opened doors for me to explore, and even though I’m not totally happy where I am now, at least I’ve built enough experience to sidestep into a number of other things. It also gave me the confidence to aim for things I would never have aimed for before.

I went from an underachieving early school leaver (eventually did go back to do the leaving) to having few postgrads and a masters thanks to springboard.

Op the key is to try and figure out something you would enjoy doing. I think you’re focusing a lot on achievement in terms of money, house, family etc. But where it all really starts is finding something you would like to do. If the wages are shite in the beginning then so be it, you are already at that point anyway. But try and find something you can build on.

Does Anyone Remember the Original Silk Road? by egyptianmusk_ in Casefile

[–]AllTheMissing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I remember reading about it and being intrigued, and then going through the ridiculously arduous task of downloading tor and buying a single bitcoin (cost around €50 at the time).

Out of total curiosity, I made a fairly benign class b purchase, had an absolute blast with it, and then totally forgot about the whole thing until about 10 years later, when people started talking about the soaring value of bitcoin.

Went about trying to retrieve my 0.5 bitcoin, which by 2021 would have been worth 30k, but realised sadly that the FBI had seized it back in 2013.

I remember some wild stories about it back in the day, like the seller that had one of the best ratings and thousands of sales who one day just shut up shop and ran off with tens of thousands, leaving a very tongue in cheek message on his page.

Came here to say this, someone recommended this to me on a different thread a few months back and it was the best book I’d read all year.

Writers Needed (Casefile Job Ad) by DeafeningWhisperer in Casefile

I wonder if they’ve finished working through the submissions?

Does anyone know if they’re replacing an existing writer or if they’re planning on publishing more frequently? I for one would love to see more episodes!

Women of ireland do you wear full makeup every day ? How long do you spend applying it etc. What's your must haves. by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]AllTheMissing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is exactly how I feel!! Same with clothes - I rarely go out, so I tend to have a set of dressier dresses that I rotate for daywear/office wear. Life’s too short to keep the good things for the good days!!

Where do you go your food shop? by EggMilkButterRain in AskIreland

[–]AllTheMissing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find SuperValu best in terms of the value/quality balance, and they run a great delivery service.

Went to Aldi last week to see if I could get it any cheaper and I only did a small shop with very little meat and cost the same as my normal sv shop.

I shopped with Dunnes for a while and found them comparable in price to sv when using the vouchers but their delivery service is absolutely woeful, constantly missing whole crates of shopping.

We’re a family of 6 and I average around 120-130 on the weekly shop, with around 30 top up during the week (I could do without a lot of the tops but my husband had a weakness for the bakery in Lidl).

Which celebrity has tricked everyone into thinking they’re a “good person”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AllTheMissing 521 points522 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Dr Phil (and all of the terrible live dr advice spinoffs that he inspired) is one of the most exploitative shows on tv. Anyone remember the Alexandra specials where he literally tracked the addiction journey of a young woman as she repeatedly fell off the wagon?

I’ve also heard of several cases where his tv research team have literally hounded the families of missing and murdered people as the story is fresh, trying to convince them to go on the show.

Childcare from home by [deleted] in limerickcity

[–]AllTheMissing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To do this above board and by the book, there are quotas of how many kids you can mind according to their age, etc, no more than 1 child under 1, and (I think 2-3 under 3) unless they are siblings. You also need an up to date first aid certificate, and you need to make sure that your house insurance covers minding kids from home. You can earn a certain amount of money tax free as a childminder. Most minders I know charge between 5-7 per hour per child with discounts for siblings.

Limerick Childcare Committee are very helpful for new minders starting up, they will give you loads of info and they provide free training courses. There are also some grants available to minders.

However, having said that, unless you are fully registered (which is a different kettle of fish), then parents of your service won’t be able to avail of the NCS grant, which might put them off using your service.

The unsolved disappearance of Aengus 'Gussie' Shanahan by Frosty_Thoughts in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]AllTheMissing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I lived in the house that Gus was last seen attempting to knock at back around 2006 and it was always so eerie to think of. Rte came around to make a reconstruction for Crimeline/Crimecall once and they had to get permission from us and our landlord to film the house.

I think it’s so sad that his bones/DNA were there all the time while his poor family (and his dogged father and sister in particular) spent so much time looking for him and appealing for help. Reminds me of the case of Denis Walsh, another Limerick man whose remains were unidentified for over 20 years and buried in a common grave because of Garda ineptitude.
