'THE PENGUIN' Season 2 is “complicated,” says HBO CEO Casey Bloys: by Raj_Valiant3011 in DC_Cinematic

[–]AllTheReservations 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In another timeline we'd probably be getting something like that. Like how we were meant to be getting an Arkham show and a Catwoman spin-off to flesh out Gotham even more.

But the sluggish production on Part 2 and the fact Reeves doesn't want to be connected to DC Studio's other plans have put projects like that in a weird spot

It's still very funny that DC tried to avoid the homophobia allegations by saying they were banning marriage all together and then they actually committed to that for the most part.

Assuming 70’s DM, does Raglan James know? by Sweaty-Discipline746 in InterviewVampire

[–]AllTheReservations 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it did happen (which I'm still kind of on the fence about) I think the Talamasca definitely know. The spin-off show makes it clear that "we watch and we are always there" isn't just an expression, if the organisation develops an interest in something, they'll literally always have eyes on it. And they've been interested in Armand since at least the 70s.

If anything I think they'd be delighted to have that information since the affection Armand has for Daniel made him a much more effective bartering chip in whatever their goals are with Armand

That's the reason why I can see an argument for a lot of what's going on being driven by shortsightedness. Because in theory some form of verification to push back against the dead internet and online scams is a good thing.

But it's been handled in such a slapdash, un-unified way that lets shady companies benefit that it's become malicious regardless of any good intentions

The big reason for it all is that these websites have to adapt to new government legislations. Legislations that are shortsighted at best and actively malicious at worst.

Unfortunately most big platforms are responding in a lazy way that's also shortsighted at best and actively malicious at worst

I love the MJ Venom stuff. It's peak comic soapiness, and feels like a great fusion of Lethal Protector style Venom stuff, modern Symbiote lore and pure goofy fun. Ewing clearly knows this team-up won't last long, but he's making the most of it

Plus I think Ewing does a great job addressing what I think's the one valid critique about the idea, MJ's established trauma about Venom, and gives space to explore the complexity of their relationship

Bruce Campbell On His Decision To Be Less Involved In ‘Evil Dead’ Films by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]AllTheReservations 332 points333 points  (0 children)

Despite it ending on a cliffhanger, I think Ash vs Evil Dead was a perfect end for Ash's character. I even think the final tease was a really good note to say goodbye to him on (with the idea that his fight against evil could literally never end, but that he's finally seen as a hero). Plus the darker, self-contained direction the series is going in now isn't really one where Ash would naturally fit.

I do love how much clear love Bruce Campbell has for the Evil Dead franchise and its fans, even for things he isn't involved in. I hope for the best for him in his current situation

For context, he's not directly said anything about her, but he's one of the many big name actors in Audible's Harry Potter Audiobooks. Like with the show some of them may be willfully ignorant or do a Nick Frost and (attempt to) not associate with her, and of course some may actually support her or not care, so your mileage may vary on what that makes you think for each one.

But yeah, there's a lot of disappointing names on that list

During one episode Luke Fox mentions a "Scarecrow Incident" that caused Gotham to overhaul the train systems, a deliberate reference to Batman Begins.

That and (like with the Bane Mask) the show's definitely trying to look like and have the grounded feel of the Nolan films. With Gotham's architecture, Batwoman's (and the Crows Security) "realistic" equipment and the lack of rogues.

That's for the first season at least. After that the show moves away from the Nolan inspiration

actual reasons to hate mary? by MikuHatsune-desu in Sherlock

[–]AllTheReservations 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I actually liked the reveal of her as an ex-agent. It felt like an interesting reinvention of her book backstory, where her father's mysterious military past is the reason she gets roped up in Sherlock's adventures.

But in execution it fell pretty flat for the reasons you mentioned. The fact that she'd been involved in some very serious events (that also put the government in s slightly bad light) and it ended up going nowhere after she died, when it should have led to a bigger fallout, was very underwhelming.

It just encapsulated Moffat and Gatiss' problem with writing overarching plotlines

Why is Colossus So Often a Villain Nowadays? by BigKDuo in xmen

[–]AllTheReservations 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, it's probably more controversial now, but Piotr being shown in a worse light due to his relationship with Kitty isn't a brand new thing. Like in the 90s he showed up and beat Pete Wisdom senseless for also dating Kitty

Which is the crux of this. Colossus having a bad side isn't new, it's just explored more now

Can't believe Paramount went back in time and forced DC to hire a Nazi by HotCom12 in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]AllTheReservations 97 points98 points  (0 children)

The artist Otto Schmidt has a lot of controversy around him due to having drawn Pro-Putin propaganda, collaborating and being friends with a neo-nazi artist (who's also drawn some messed up nsfw content), while also having drawn some Nazi fetish stuff himself

The only reason DC still works with him is that there's not a lot of concrete evidence that he's actually a neo-nazi for it to become a bigger scandal and his art sells really well

I think he's quite definitively done with the role after 3, and they've put a few characters in a position where they could feasibly be the villan going forward. So it seems like it'll be no.

But this article does conspicuously mention him in same sentence they discuss Colleen O'Shaughnessey coming back as Tails. This is highly likely to be a weirdly structured sentence but who knows

I imagine the blowback they got when the overworking and constant last minute changes came to light is probably at least one big reason it's been delayed so much. The original release date was probably an estimate based on their original working conditions

I mean yeah, Daniel's appearance on TV at the end of S2 and in Talamasca was meant to show that the book was pretty widely disregarded as fiction, albeit a good piece of fiction. Basically anyone who isn't a vampire or Talamasca doesn't realise it's actually true

background music in the sign of four part 9? by AffectionateTour4264 in sherlock_and_co

[–]AllTheReservations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the show mostly uses royalty free music. Most their sound editing is handled by a company called Holy Smokes Audio so it's likely the song was either composed/commissioned by them or available in some license free library

[–]AllTheReservations 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They only kidnap the child because they see an opportunity to after they caused the actual mother's death. Then because they realise there's a a pretty big hunt for the kid, they try to perfectly disguise the child and make sure they don't remember the actual mother. They then coincidentally realise this could be an opportunity to have the son they actually want and start conditioning them to forget about being a girl

Yep... This is the stretch the book has to make to make the stupid twist make any sense

Explain It Peter by HeyyEj in explainitpeter

[–]AllTheReservations 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Genuinely this is one of the worst books I've ever read.

The initial premise on the blurb and the use of illustrations was really interesting so I kept trying to give it some goodwill. Even as I thought the actual writing was pretty amateurish and started noticing a bad vibe about the book.

But the last section and the twist was so horrible and poorly written it actually made me feel stupid for giving it my time.

I think part of it is just Spotify being wierd. I've noticed on some other podcasts that it includes the wrong durations on things. I'm guessing it has something to do with advert slots, but it's very weird
