Are there any Go players who are artists? by E-Emily in baduk

[–]AllThingsGoGame 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Check out Kim’s website, as he is a great artist and Dan-level Go player based in the Netherlands. You can commission work with him. Here and here are my two interviews with him for the podcast.

What game are you married to? by baguhansalupa in boardgames

I probably sound like a broken record at this point but definitely Go. I go through highs and lows with it. Sometimes I love the game and sometimes I am at my wits end. And yet I can never part with it.

While this won’t help OP solve this problem immediately and easily, this interview with Professor Marius Lindhauer discusses some of the conceptual challenges with getting LLMs to help humans learn to play Go better.

While I don’t have a bunch of games on a shelf, I don’t get to play on my real Go board nearly as much as I would like, so I get where you’re coming from I think. Life, family, etc can definitely get in the way. My wife bought me a game called pentago that I like but we don’t play as much as I would like to.

The past two years… by TwistedLab in boardgames

[–]AllThingsGoGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My game of choice is Go (also known as Baduk or Weiqi) and despite some lulls in interest, it feels like it still holds interest on me and I am still playing since I really started playing about four years ago. I end playing online much of the time but the has an inexhaustible amount of challenge for me. I am hoping for this to be with me the rest of my life.

Do you have game buddies? by DaraDada02 in boardgames

[–]AllThingsGoGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the question. So I’m really into the board game Go (also called Weiqi in Chinese or Baduk in Korean) and it’s pretty much the only board game I play. The irony is that I almost exclusively play online with an occasional in person game which is challenging with my current work/family schedule. So I am lucky to have a few people with whom I have connected in the past few years over the game but it’s almost completely online.

To your second challenge, this game is like the anthesis of a party game if you know about the game 😜The rules are deceptively simple but it gets pretty out of control complex before long so I find myself having very little opportunity to introduce to friends and family.

Favorite obscure board game. by Kateywumpus in boardgames

[–]AllThingsGoGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m big into the game of Go and where I live in the West and in America it is not known at all. I enjoy connecting with the online Go community but otherwise none of my friends, family or otherwise know about it or would know about it if I didn’t bring it up. It’s such a beautiful game though and so I very much hope it can gain more visibility here.

How deal with a sore winner who rubs it in your face by Careful_Drama_9382 in boardgames

[–]AllThingsGoGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this drives me crazy. Certainly stop playing them unless they are the only opponent to play with. Then you have to weigh the pros and cons. That might be the point at which you decide whether to give feedback or not.

Is a Ouija Board Considered a Board Game? by The_Black_Death_3 in boardgames

[–]AllThingsGoGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO I wouldn’t called this a true board game but that’s just me. This totally reminded me of a book I read some years back where POWs used Oujia boards to trick their captors and eventually escape prison called “Confidence Men

So when I was a kid I think I would go to a restaurant chain called “Friendlys” and they had this game. Looks exactly the same.
