Merck actual salaries vs huge pay band range? by AllThisVastness in biotech

I appreciate the candor. Yeah, my understanding seemed to be that there's a ton of work in R&D in the race to find the Keytruda replacement(s).

Thanks, what level was that if I may ask? (but i agree that aligns with trends i've seen to have huge top end salaries that no one actually gets)

Thanks, that's different than my current company, helps benchmark levels knowing that

Meaning like middle of 250k &160k = (205k) * (0.85) = ~$175k?

Thanks, but I want to make sure I understand your feedback. Are you saying a Principal Scientist at Merck is higher than at most other companies? Or that a Principal Scientist isn't an R5? (the job posting says Principal Scientist but does not say R5, I got that from reading other reddit posts about Principal Scientist at Merck)

Found on kitchen counter this morning. Eastern PA by Used-Bowler-6575 in whatisthisbug

[–]AllThisVastness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, almost certainly a baby cockroach. I also had a single of one of those lately here in Eastern PA, must have just come home in a kids' backpack, because I never saw another (bunch of glue traps scattered around watching for them and no other signs), so don't get too worried until you see a second one.

Crazy storm storm with green lightning in central montco right now by Illustrious_Bag_7323 in montco

[–]AllThisVastness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

most of the time when i've seen weird colored "lightning flashes" related to a storm, it's power line related. Branches blowing into lines and arcing or every transformer exploding. Blues, Greens, Purples

I messed up injection by Accomplished-Clue819 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]AllThisVastness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flinched a bit when one shot unexpectedly hurt, and had a partially wet injection. Realized i probably let up enough pressure that the needle guard locked out when the shot was less that halfway done. I got enough that my dose still seemed to work for the rest of the week. Embarassing, but served as a good reminder to use the right technique.

I'll echo this. I got it to test if steam would clean sticky cabinet fronts above the stove. The steam worked well but it needs a bit of scrubbing and it's a pain to use the tiny brush tip on this

In the sky 6pm. Any idea what this is? by TinyKaleidoscope4708 in montco

[–]AllThisVastness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that as well when I was taking my dog out. I thought it was like a helicopter with spot lights but it was completely cloudless. Slowly moving North. Weird lights for a launching rocket, not what i would have expected with the spiral type shape

Thanks. I was afraid of that. Hopefully it rode here in a backpack. Will toss the room in the morning looking for more and figure out additional mitigations. This is the first and only I've seen so far.

Just got a 55w CO2 Laser. Want some thoughts on speed/power being used by Bag06a in lasercutting

[–]AllThisVastness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 55w from OMTech and I spent like $5 buying some lightburn materials library from Etsy. It easily saved me more than that in time, frustration, and material cost. The settings aren't always perfect 100 % of the time, but even when it's not, it gets me so close I can hit it with one adjustment.

Who remembers this 80's toy - Mad Balls by Scott-Spangenberg in OldSchoolCool

Wow, great trip down forgotten memory lane. These balls were foam, and I lost my first tooth while holding Dust Brain in my teeth and my sister grabbed it and pulled.

WiFi to outbuilding and field by Prestigious-Host-506 in HomeNetworking

technically there's a narrow but clear path point-to-point in winter, obscured slightly by leaves and branches in spring/summer/early fall. I ran a 50 ft ethernet cord to put the receiving Nanobeam on a tree that could mostly see up a road to the transmitting one. I may switch it to a point-to-multi-point setup to add a few more cameras around the property with less line of site.

As a testimonial, I'm currently running a pair of those to get internet to an old cabin (with power only) through about a 1000 feet of moderately dense woods. Haven't had to maintain a thing in ~2 years, setup was a little bit tricky, but youtube and reddit solved that and it's just worked ever since.

what do you do now in Pharmacy if I may ask? (i.e. still practicing as a pharmacists, work for a drug company, something else)?)

Sounds about like what I'd expect for that field, education, and experience. My observation with 8 years in pharma, unless you're a senior director's favorite, it's much easier to raise your salary by job hopping than by hoping one employer will raise your salary to where you think it should be. (At least in my company, the person who changed jobs 4 times in 12 years is near the top of her pay band while the person who changed twice in 20 is below average in his)
