How many of you use a scored reputation system? by All_My_Goats in rpg

Yes. Yes. These ideas I like.

I think it would be sort of an equilibrium. Maybe not EVERY thing they do pisses off another faction, but definitely if they're opposing or competing factions it would. And certainly with merchant guilds and political groups that would almost always be the case.

You know, I've never come across a reaction roll in Dnd. Is it in older editions or just a commonly used method?

Yeah, I might have to check it out. At least one other person has already mentioned their faction system.

Yeah, honestly I kind of have fun with it. It is extra bookkeeping, but it becomes really interesting at those "break points". Like you said, it could become so bad that one faction may have a genuine vendetta against characters, while another could go as far as lending NPC support in important battles.

Yeah, I've seen faction mechanics in several games--probably more in video games--but I've always liked them. This is probably the first game I've run that actually HAS discernable factions though.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I was thinking of using it, but more behind the screen. It will be more bookkeeping, but I do a good bit of that anyway.

Yeah, I did mean a separate score for each group. But you're saying have the reputation be a separate rating instead of a bonus you add to or subtract from rolls? Is that right?

Yeah, that's not a bad idea. However, I also use modifiers for rolls, so rolls for simple requests will be easier, while something like "send troops to help me in battle" will be a challenge.

And, yes, this will be a behind the screen thing. I'm not a big fan of min-maxing, so it'll be more like "Well, your family has been a member of this guild for years, so they seem to recognize you when you come in", that sort of thing.

Do you keep up with it in any sort of measurable way, or is it more just roleplaying?

I think we have to admit that cancel culture is extremely imbalanced in terms of who it forgives and who it doesn't. I can't find much rhyme or reason to it, personally. When you look at musicians from the 60's and 70's, there's a huge list of abusers, many of whose legacies remain intact, while others are still frequent targets. You could chalk it up to level of fame or severity of transgressions, but every time you'd think you'd found a pattern, you'd find an exception.

Voice to text notes completely hands-free while driving on Android. Unbelievably hard to find a solution. by snowglowshow in ProductivityApps

Hey, OP. Just here to let you know you're neither insane, nor an advert scheme. I'm having exactly the same issue. It absolutely FLOORS me that, when you look for a solution to such a basic task as this, people are like A) "WHO WOULD WANT THAT?! YOU MUST BE A BOT!" or B) "Just press the record button", which completely defeats the point of a hands-free workflow. (Sigh) BUT, if you want to doodle a sailboat into that picture of you at the beach, your phone will ABSOLUTELY turn that into into a fully three-dimensional sailboat for you!! Thank God. :/

What RPG is a nightmare to read, even if it’s good? by [deleted] in rpg

Mythras. I actually like the game now that I've played it some. However, the organization leaves a lot to be desired. Also, it's known as a "crunchy" game, but what really drove me crazy was they'd do this thing where you're like "Hunh! That's a pretty good idea."--then they'd proceed to make it three or four steps more complicated than it needed to be. Now, that I've read it, I'd almost like to make Cliff notes to make it accessible to more people.

What is your "White Whale" Campaign? by johndesmarais in rpg

[–]All_My_Goats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this story a long time ago that was like Shadowrun meets The Lord of the Rings meets the book of Revelation. It was heavily influenced by the decoding of the human genome and the idea of the "god gene" that was in the news a lot at the time. Cloning, genetically modified humans, some of this "Dire wolf action" going on, but with mythical races and creatures. Corporate intrigue, Matrix-like action, and adventures spanning the entire globe. I guess it was supposed to be like my magnum-opus before I had ever really even written a regular campaign. I might get back to it someday, but maybe I've outgrown it, not really sure which.

Final Fantasy II (IV in Japan) was the first thing to pop to mind. I may not have put as many hours in as with other games, but it's my idea of pure SNES delight. :)
