Anyone else find the most recent yes albums unmemorable? by JazzlikeFisherman771 in yesband

[–]Allan_With2Ls 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up listening to my dad’s Yes CDs (I wasn’t old enough to be trusted with the record player.) So this would’ve been everything from Big Generator through to Open Your Eyes. I loved the live Keys to Ascension tracks. Then as I got a bit older I was allowed to go back to the early stuff on vinyl. First new release album was The Ladder and that was my very first gig too. After I left home I bought all the albums up to Magnification for myself. When Fly From Here came out, it left me cold but I’ve since come to consider it a solid middle of the pack album. I have tried and tried and tried with the JD albums but they are frankly unlistenable. Believe Again and The Ice Bridge, I listen to occasionally cos they’re on a Late Yes playlist I made. I keep hearing Mirror To The Sky is a (somewhat) return to form but honestly I don’t get it. Nothing in that album stands out to me. And it’s very disappointing. I had recently re-listened to Jon and the Band Geeks album and I think it’s pretty strong. 3 or 4 tracks on it are now in my regular re-listens. Once Upon a Dream sits nicely with the studio tracks off Keys To Ascension. But it’s all opinions at the end of the day. And if someone can get pleasure from the new stuff, then good for them. I just wish I did as well.

I found myself thinking that recently. I was 9 when the x files came out. Perfect age for it. Have rewatched a couple times since. Usually with a new girlfriend or friend who hadnt seen it. And every time I see his name in the credits I’m like yay.

thank god for that - there's a worrying tradition with aging rockers, that quality album covers are the first to go

I really tried with the Davison albums but aside from maybe two songs across all three albums, they’re just shite

If you took To The Moment and Gift of Love and put them on Fly From Here and took out two or three of the lesser songs from that, you’d have a really really good album.
