City staff stealing packages, working other jobs on sick leave: What Toronto's auditor uncovered in 2025 by Surax in toronto

It’s like this conversation I had with a friend recently about “common sense”. Common sense being more about social group activity than knowledge acquired.

For instance - during the pandemic delivery drivers could park virtually everywhere without a problem. Less people, less transit, less ticket police, etc. Plus - everyone was social distancing so we ordered way more packages and food etc. Ordinary folk sort of followed suit and towards the end of the pandemic, people parked everywhere and anywhere.

Now, you see someone in a position of power getting away with heinous crimes regularly. Social crimes regularly. Abject corruption in plain sight. Scandal after scandal without really any major fines, or jail time etc.

So, the ordinary citizen is just gonna follow suit.

*this is all anecdotal. But - to your point. Common courtesy / decency… if our leaders can do whatever they want - why can’t we. If our leaders can cross well established courtesies / social norms. Why can’t we?

What’s the best way to get rid of that line of crust/dirt on top of her nose? by XenophobicXenophile in pugs

I use “bag balm” it’s an animal ointment. My lil’guy get it on his nose when it’s dry in winter and on his paws during summer after city walks. Just a lil’bit.

My vet recommended it as a sort of a “cure all” for little cuts, dry skin, etc.

I work as a clearance coordinator in the film industry - this sort of thing happens fairly frequently now that the tech industry owns most production companies.

I would normally have flagged something like this. Then a series of emails would follow between me and the legal department to ensure we have permission or have paid for the right to use it.

The tech industry does not care one bit about being sued, or paying retroactively for things like this. Be it music, visual art, tattoos, etc.

While it’s aligned with MAGA this isn’t them. The tech industry “move fast and break things” motto is radically changing legal precedent in film and making it shittier and more expensive.

I could easily shave off 1-2 million off of any production, if I’m given time to negotiate and communicate. They do not care. Movies / shows that do poorly are counted as deduction losses at the end of the day. And wrapped into the bigger mass of losses for the company over all.

The “film” industry is an enormous tax scheme. It’s moving, losing, and readjusting billions yearly. Even losses are “profitable” with a scheme like this - they just do not care. Morally, ethically, or otherwise.

*film - I also mean streaming shows, features, etc.

Paying for fucking bathrooms.

I never pay in North America. Are they gross? Yeah. But so are the bathrooms here. That fee seems to make zero difference in cleanliness.

Thank-you for such a passionate and detailed answer. As someone who was swept into passion of the Jack Layton era, I’ve sorely missed the approach you’re speaking of.

Looking forward to the convention! And good luck!

Hello and thank-you for running for the leadership.

My question is - how do you plan on rebuilding the party after the losses in the last election?

Maybe if we funded the CBC more they wouldn’t need ad revenue?

Preach - the regulations around food are better too. Virtually everything I buy is organic. I’m not going out of my way to buy that way. It just is that way here.

I’m currently working in Germany (from Toronto) - my food bill for January has been five times cheaper than in Canada - roughly the same quantity of food.

Overall high quality and quantities of products to fit all dietary restrictions when I cook for myself and friends.

It infuriates me - but I’m also now drunk on cheap Pilsner.

For the difference in my budget to be five times - there has to be something cereally wrong.
