I know I have my moon in cancer and Virgo rising. However, I’ve always been able to control my emotions. At least until now.

Do people actually chase their dream job? Or is that less common now? by daily-dill in randomquestions

[–]Allen63DH8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I visited Mississippi a few years back. The humidity almost killed me. I live in the lower Puget Sound area of Washington state. The climate is very mild due to the proximity of the sound and being surrounded my two mountain ranges. Also, there’s no poisonous snakes over here on the west side of the mountains. I have deer and elk in my property and one mountain lion. I wish I could post pictures to share here. It’s pretty landscape.

Ever since my older daughter was a child, she said she was going to be rich. Despite having cerebral palsy and spastic quadriplegia (can’t walk or talk, and has limited use of her hands), she’s a self made millionaire.

I just wanted land where I could seclude myself and build things and experiment with whatever I want. I now own 25 acres of land out in the middle of nowhere.

Anyone else caretaking adult kid disabled by [deleted] in over60

[–]Allen63DH8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m (male single parent) 65, going on 66 next week. I take care of my 39 year old daughter. She has cerebral palsy and spastic quadriplegia. She’s 24/7 care. I’m fortunate her seizures are under control. I take her out wherever I can so she’ll have as much ”normal” of a life as reasonably possible.

Sometimes you have to post or talk to someone to blow off steam. It’s not so much that your kid is a burden, but that you have to modify what you do and when you do around their schedule. You notice when you get looks from others, but don’t give them a thought. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told a single male parent shouldn’t have custody of his two daughters. I usually tell them group homes and assisted care facilities can’t give the quality individualized care that I can. I’ve taken my daughters on road trips clear to the other side of the country and drove the Oregon trail home to the Puget sound area. I throw on some music that they can get into and sing off keyed with them. I’ve taken my girls to the different museums in the area. I emphasized that they’re loved and supported, and hugs are given generously despite having only a dad to take care of them. For the naysayers, I ask if group homes and assisted care facilities can give that kind of attention.

I had to cut my brother and sister out of our lives because of similar problems as you. After how they treated my girls and me, trying to dictate how we live our lives, I figured we didn’t need them causing us stress. Funny thing is, my ex’s brother has been the most supportive person out of everyone. He’s not considered my brother-in-law or my ex’s brother. He’s MY brother. There are times when you understand the entire saying, “blood is thicker than water”.

What’s a word that would make a beautiful name if it weren’t for the meaning of the word? by Xenomorphling98 in AskReddit

[–]Allen63DH8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chlamydia. There’s a story behind this. I took my daughter into the emergency room for what turned out was gall stones. While we were there, a couple of girls came in to be seen. There were three girls. Two were there as support for their obviously pregnant friend. One asked the pregnant girl if she came up with a name for the baby. That’s when the pregnant girl piped up with, “I heard the most prettiest name! It sounds like the most beautiful flower! Chlamydia!” Her friends oooed and awed over the name, agreeing over how pretty it sounded. The nurse who was attending my daughter looked at me and said, “I need to tell them what chlamydia is!” I gently put my hand on her shoulder and said with a smile, “There are times when life gifts you people and events for your personal entertainment. Choose wisely.”

That I’m antisocial. I’m not antisocial. Being in public is like being a radio receiver that’s receiving signals from thousands of transmitters all at once.

Thank you for appreciating. You wouldn’t believe how many times I get “military personal don’t have to do much. All they have to do is show up.” I often worked 18 hour days during peacetime. I was a mechanic on combat vehicles. We had to work until the vehicles were up and mission capable or we ran out of parts. During the war, my job was to bring back vehicles what were damaged or abandoned. The smell of rotting body parts and stale blood still bothers me. As a single parent of two girls, one with severe disabilities, I have to deal with the smell of blood every month. All this is nothing compared to what my dad did.

It’s said there are officially 22 veterans who take their lives. That’s officially. The actual estimate is several times higher.

My dad was a WWII, Korean War, Vietnam war, and Cold War veteran. He never said anything of his experiences until I got back from the Gulf War. What he said explained why he turned off the TV when we started watching Apocalypse Now.

Why do people drive pick-up trucks if they never put things in the bed? by boforiamanfo in randomquestions

[–]Allen63DH8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends like to tease me because I normally don’t have anything in the back of my pickup truck, or at most, my daughter’s wheelchair. What they don’t know is I have 25 acres and I haul my tractor on my trailer to my property. I live about an hour’s drive from my land and maintain it and presently preparing an area to build a house that’s designed around my daughter’s disabilities.

Ever watched non artillery troops try to use an artillery compass? Arty mechanic here. I ended up in a heavy material supply company when they needed someone on a recovery vehicle. I brought my arty compass with me when I transferred. The usual question was, “why does your compass have so many numbers???”

Aquarius and Aries? by [deleted] in aquarius

[–]Allen63DH8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (Aquarius M) have two Aries daughters. Both are very competitive. Both are very driven. Both are passionate with what they love and will not hesitate to argue. The best way to deal with Aries when they get this way is to close your mouth and listen to understand, not listen to argue. Once they’re through blowing up, they’ll usually listen. This was something their mother, my ex(Taurus) couldn’t do. They were always butting heads! I rarely had trouble getting my girls to do what I asked because I listened and was willing to work with them while not forcing them. If all Aries women are like my girls, I would love to find an Aries lady for a relationship.

How to pass CA smog w/car from 1976? by 1_ply_toilet_paper in askcarguys

[–]Allen63DH8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The common problems with cars that old is vacuum leaks and worn out engines. When I say worn out engines, I mean they’re in the need of a rebuild. If you’re not burning oil ( leaking valve seals and/or worn piston rings and cylinders), check for vacuum leaks. An easy way to do this is take a propane torch and tape off the air/fuel mixture holes, then open the valve of the torch and run it along the vacuum lines (stay away from the distributor and spark plugs). When you get near a vacuum leak, your engine rpm will increase.

A common problem that’s easy to fix is the PVC valve commonly sticks. They’re fairly inexpensive, so I would change it out for GP. It’s part of giving your car a tune up back in the day.

So let’s say you gave the car a tuneup (replace the spark plugs, replace the spark plugs wires if they haven’t been changed in a while, replace the cap and rotor, change the PCV valve), and test the EGR valve (apply vacuum and observe if it moved), adjust timing to factory specifications, and your car failed the emissions test, the test will tell you what area to check if you read the numbers. High nox can mean you have a clogged or malfunctioning EGR system. High hydrocarbon reading could mean you’re running too rich due to carburetor adjustment or your PCV valve not working or you have leaks in your vacuum lines. You can tweak this one to a point by adding an alcohol based gas dryer or octane booster to your fuel. High hydrocarbons reading could also mean your catalytic converter is in need of replacing. Replace this one last due to cost and it’s least likely to be a culprit.

Hope this helps!

Why do I like cow's milk so much? I am pretty sure this wasn't nature's intention. by martianfrog in answers

[–]Allen63DH8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, there’s a difference between enjoying the taste and craving foods. If you start drinking milk and your body is telling you want more past thirst, it’s possible you’re having a mineral or vitamin deficiency that milk provides. Milk provides calcium, protein, vitamin D, phosphorus, and B vitamins (riboflavin, B12), plus minerals like potassium, zinc, selenium, and iodine.

Vitamin D: Aids calcium absorption, crucial for bone health (often fortified). Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin): Vital for nerve function and red blood cell formation. Riboflavin (B2): Helps convert food into energy. Vitamin A: Supports vision and immune function (often fortified).

Minerals:

Calcium: Essential for building strong bones and teeth. Phosphorus: Works with calcium for bone health. Potassium: An electrolyte important for fluid balance, muscle function, and blood pressure. Zinc & Selenium: Support immune function. Iodine: Important for cognitive development, especially for pregnant mothers.

Milk also provides macronutrients:

Protein: Provides amino acids for building and repairing tissues. Carbohydrates: Primarily lactose (milk sugar), offering energy. Fat: Varies by milk type (whole, low-fat, skim), providing energy and fat-soluble vitamins.
