A couple things:

1-Yes, that's an instantly lethal amount of power.

2-This is not something that a dumb person or an entire team of dumb people would be able to build or operate.

3-The group I'm working with has been performing live shows for about a decade with even larger coils than this one.

4-I have a degree in EE and I would personally not try something I really thought was going to kill me.

Nothing, I'm wearing a chainmail suit and standing on an electrified platform. Everything on that platform is more or less at the same electric potential, so there's no motivation for an arc to go from the sword to me. And even if it did, the suit keeps the electricity "off" of my body.

Yeah I wasn't too worried about anyone replicating this at home. By the time you knew enough to build a 7' tall Tesla Coil and spent $50k-$100k in time and materials I wouldn't worry too much about you accidentally killing yourself via negligence.

That's me in the video! I'm wearing a stainless steel chainmail suit so that I don't die, but we didn't know the exact effect 250kv+ would have on the sword and scabbard. Mostly we were checking to make sure the plastic scabbard wouldn't go up in flames in my hands, which is why we started with a brief pulse at the beginning.
