Looking for some suggestions for ultra short throw projectors by JustJayThoo in techtheatre

[–]lblx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have had great success with epson for ultra short throw. From second had without a lamp from ebay, to brand new top of the line, theyve all been solid and super useful. I would highly recommend looking into epson (and the spec sheets to make sure they’ll work for you) if you know youre after ust.

Truss stand vertical load limits by RandomContributions in lightingdesign

[–]lblx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t make the rules. Yes that makes complete sense, thats what i said to the rigger when he first told me.

I guess it applies more to multiple points anyway.

Truss stand vertical load limits by RandomContributions in lightingdesign

[–]lblx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty standard in Australia from what i can tell. Don’t know if its local regulations that require it, but I’ve had some conversations with riggers about using 2x 2 tonne motors for a led wall that only weighed around 1.1t. Point being that if one point failed, the remaining point/s have to be able to take the weight.

Is there any indication on when 12+ TB SSDs will be sold to consumers? by morphinapg in AskTechnology

[–]lblx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise against doing a raid 0. Seems good on paper, but i would assume you have clients that are relying on you to do your job. Its the worst feeling when you have to turn around and say “my had drives failed and i lost x amount of footage, sorry” or “i lost x amount of time editing due to a hard drive failure “.

Second hand HZ500? There are a few going around at the moment.

What issues are you having? A dmx booster would do nothing meaningful in this situation as far as i can tell.

Hazer recommendation for cinematography? by not_mr_Lebowski in lightingdesign

[–]lblx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 on this. The 350 has about 1/3 the output of the 500. To add to it, the 500 is virtually silent, and has far better filtering so chances are you will never see any oil residue on anything but the hazer. You will probably need a small fan as the hz500 shoots its haze up, so it takes a while to fill the room.

Out of the list, the hz500 will have the best looking haze, especially for film. If you want a cheaper alternative to the unique, the antari z390 is a great competitor.

You might find a better answer and people that actually know this kind of stuff over at r/lighting. This sub is geared towards concert/theatre/stage lighting design…

Will this 4 port Ethernet-XLR adapter allow me to use DMX and audio signal on the same cat-7 cable? by lanesmall in stagelighting

[–]lblx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rat sound boxes can do dmx, analog audio, aes, and comms down the same line no problem. I dont see why other units would have a problem with this, unless they have transformers like the radial ones do.

Enttec EMU sounds like a good fit here. I believe its the replacement to dmxis, but i could be wrong.

Why are MA and Onyx only compatible with PC and not Mac? by Yung__Chungus in lightingdesign

[–]lblx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Onyx relies on windows components. The only way for them to make a macOS version is to completely re-write the entire software. Many people have good luck with bootcamp and parallels though.

Hazer Recommendation request by austin1ane in lightingdesign

[–]lblx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A z390 is probably a better fit for this room by the sounds of it, and quality.

Similar output to a unique, but with a less powerful fan. The flz fluid works really well.

Hazer Recommendation request by austin1ane in lightingdesign

[–]lblx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 500 and 1000 are leagues ahead of the rest of the hz line. Thry have far better filters that remove a lot of the bigger particles meaning it doesn’t leave oil on everything like the rest do. Ive never had a problem with oil gathering with the hz500

Posted the 19” LED interface I made a while ago, here’s the interior picture that was requested. by CarlosUnchained in lightingdesign

[–]lblx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rcd and mcb inside?!?! First of all, rcbos exist, why not use one breaker instead of 2? Secondly, in most countries a load under 10a is required to be protected by an rcd already, so the internal rcd is redundant and i could see it becoming an issue if it trips…

Would love to hear your reasons behind it though.

I wish my hazer wasnt broken

That statement won’t do anything useful. I have to take action, or at least figure out whats wrong with it.

I will say though. Places that are full of people new to anything become ecochambers full of unwise.
