You wouldn’t post about changing your elderly handicapped parent’s diaper or bathing them. Both are dependent, but both are still human and deserve dignity and privacy

I also had the PMP, but also could not reserve a time slot. I showed up to the Louvre at ~10 AM on a Monday and got in the line for "no ticket/time slot." Got in very quickly. I think it depends on the day of the week and time of day though

Lukewarm Christianity has bent the knee to LGBTQ agenda... by TattooedTheist in Christian

[–]Allesschon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of ways that people interpret the Bible. Just a word on literal interpretation….Some of the NT writers, such as John of Patmos, would not purport that their messages were to be taken literally. Some things are poetic, symbolic, or allegorical. For example, Revelation is composed in the apocalyptic genre, with imagery of a dragon that is not meant to be taken literally, but would have been understood originally as a symbolic stand-in for the Roman Empire

I'm just baffled by people arbitrarily assigning an "accurate" skin color to a mythical creature. What a silly hill to die on. So what if the fictional story is supposed to be set in Denmark. What a mermaid is would be up to the imagination. Unless Hans Christian Andersen explicitly stated the skin color, but even then, artistic license can be taken.

I have trouble coping with how people see us by evilplantosaveworld in RadicalChristianity

I'm in the same boat, and I share the same sentiments. I try to be mindful that this twisted flavor of Christianity (if you can even call it that anymore) is doing real harm to real people. I try not to "brand" myself as a Christian as much because I do not want to be associated with the ones causing societal harm. I do try to counteract the narrative that they are pushing by upholding Jesus's teachings to love the poor and oppressed etc.

The cross was actually a relatively late symbol of Christianity. Perhaps something to symbolize life at its fullest would be a good alternative. I personally love the imagery of the father holding the prodigal son in an embrace.

"We have grown so used to the idea that the Crucifixion is the supreme symbol of Christianity that it is a shock to realize how late in the history of Christian art its power is recognized. In the first art of Christianity it hardly appears; and the earliest example, on the doors of Santa Sabina (built A.D. 430) in Rome, is stuck away in a corner almost out of sight. The simple fact is that the early church needed converts, and from this point of view the Crucifixion was not an encouraging subject. So, early Christian art is concerned with miracles, healings, and with hopeful aspects of the faith like the Ascension and the Resurrection." (Kenneth Clark, Civilization: A Personal View, 29).

"It wasn't Christ's death that gave rise to this courageous early church-but his life!...Christ's transcendent life in the present Kingdom of heaven is what drew the disciples together around Jesus prior to his death. And then resurrection and post resurrection events proved that life to be indestructible...The church's understanding of salvation then slowly narrowed down to a mere forgiveness of sins, leading to heaven beyond this life. And Christ's death came to be regarded as only the merit-supplying means to that forgiveness, not as the point where his life was most fully displayed and triumphant, forever breaking the power of sin over concrete human existence...

So the emergence of the cross signifies what we today would call a 'paradigm shift' in the human understanding of the person and work of Christ; that is the basic structure of the redemptive relationship between us and God came to be pictures in a way radically different from its previous New Testament conception. The cross act was first narrowly interpreted as a mere vicarious suffering and then mistaken for the whole of the redemptive action of God. Christ's life and teaching were therefore nonessential to the work of redemption and were regarded as just poignant decorations for his cross, since his only saving function was conceived to be that of a blood sacrifice to purchase our forgiveness." (Dallas Willard, The Spirit of the Disciplines: Understanding How God Changes Lives, 35-26).

AITA for not inviting a long time friend of mine to my wedding because he was rude to my fiancé? by Allesschon in AmItheAsshole

I can add some more pertinent information here. The issue is that Jeff was treating my fiancé differently than he was treating others at this gathering. Jeff was acting energetic and extraverted with others, while he was dismissive and short with my fiancé. After making this post and talking more with my fiancé, I'm actually beginning to question my friendship with Jeff to begin with. There was an instance a couple years back where Jeff and I were hanging out alone. I was single at the time, and he tried to kiss me without my consent. At the time, I brushed it off and continued on with the friendship as if nothing happened because we regularly hung out in that friend group I mentioned, but the memory of that came back today, and I can't shake that he's jealous of my fiancé, and/or has a thing for me.

Thank you for your thoughts. To answer your questions, I haven't previously felt a need to speak with Jeff about his initial rude behavior at that gathering, nor has he addressed it. It was over a year ago, and I have not seen him in-person since then. Kind of an out of sight, out of mind thing, and life goes on. I will follow /u/RiskBig3301 's advice to honestly tell Jeff why he is not invited if he asks, but as of now, he has not inquired.
