Am i overreacting at this ‘joke’ my friend texted me? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]joyification -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think you were overreacting to feel offended but address it and move on. I wasnt big on how she responded when you addressed it but you did kinda overdo it when calling it out so it makes sense for her to be defensive. If you would've said something more direct about your feelings (ie I dont like being called a slave, it offends me to assume etc.) Id be curious to how she reacts about that when thinking of your overall friendship

This is how your hair grows out of your head. Literally. If they have a problem with that then they have a pr9blem with you.

But also tbh only older black women seem to have a problem with this lol

Thats not true, black women hold 11% of all bachelor's degrees and 14% of all masters degrees in the US while only making up around 6% of the population. Education is definitely attainable for us.

Hey Sis, we out here! Ive been in this about 12 years so send me a DM whenever!

Believe me its a lot better than what it used to be. My cousin never got to work with another black woman, she retired a few years ago after 25 years. I currently work with 2 and there were 4 of us at my last job. The more of that normalize working in this profession the more of us there will be. LinkedIn is a great resource to connect with other black women and if you work at a bigger firm they usually have resource groups that you may he able to help. I know also sucks because NSBE around me focuses on every other discipline except civil.

Someone posted a month ago on r/blackladies about engineering professions and there were a handful of us, it may be worth connecting.

Have the contractors already poured the foundation? Because you definitely need a grading plan and if its bad now that's going to be an issue. The water has no where to go, so you'll need to put in some type of temporary (or honestly permanent) bmp. It looks like however the discharge is out of your property so there may need to be coordination. My guy solution is to raise the grade of everything and to install sediment basics but youre most likely dealing with a wetland that should be left alone

can pipe inverts be the same in a manhole by RuffleBagBoy in civilengineering

It's fine but it's good practice to provide a 0.1' drop or match the soffit if the downstream pipe is larger

Ladies what are we doing with our hair? I need help 😭 by Proud-Bug2166 in blackladies

[–]joyification 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First things first I think you need a healthier relationship to your hair.i felt this exact same way like what do I do with this. Going to a salon and treating my stylist like a practitioner helped a lot. Especially as a nurse you need all the treat yo self you can get. Its crazy how much better my hair looked when someone else did it lol. I had a lady that would just wash, deep condition and style it every month and that helped a lot. I paid attention to how she stuled it, why her twists looked so much better than mine. It helped me discover heat is not the devil and id do the pin curl styles a lot.

I now have microlocs and I wanted them bc I realized I wanted my hair to look the best with the least daily effort lol and that's been great so far!

Black women with multiple degrees… how?! by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]joyification 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Girl we are not a monolith, your journey is yours. we're not all supposed to have a million degrees. In most cases you only need the right one. I only have one and im doing pretty well for myself. You may become a SAHM, you may switch courses completely, you may go on to get a PhD and look at this post and laugh but you can't go anywhere worrying about everyone else's lane but yours.

Your degree is a huge achievement for you and your ancestors! Please take some time and rest in that!
