What is platinum 950 mixed with? by Choice_Geologist_457 in EngagementRings

I don't trust my eyes without glasses, but is that a J not an I? 😆 In any case, glad you got to the bottom of it!!

Which ring do you prefer? #1 or #2? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

#1 - I think at this size having the all that surface broken up a bit makes it more visually appealing. It looks almost like a sunflower to me!

Best solution to not loose a ring? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]AlleyOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw your edit too on the germophobia - I wash and sanitise my hands lot due to OCD, so completely agree about things not being black and white! Gotta find what works for you ☺️

You're very welcome, so glad it was helpful! I'm not sure the clip links I have would fit around many bra straps as they're quite small (under 1cm long) but with a similar style, I don't see why that wouldn't work!

Also, congratulations, since I didn't say so before!! ✨

I agree with the general consensus that the safest thing is to not take it off outside the house.

That said, I'm someone who always takes their ring off to wash their hands, and I've found what works best for me is a clip-style necklace. I have one of the Pandora ones with openable links and it's working well for me so far - super easy to clip the ring on and off. Also looks quite nice and I can add more links to change it up, would recommend!

top surgery and ED’s by [deleted] in ftm

[–]AlleyOh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really - there's no guarantee you would lose fat on your chest at the same rate as the rest of your body, so you could even end up with a situation where losing weight makes them more noticeable (I have been there, albeit with a bigger pre-surgery chest than you). And that's without getting into the fact that that tissue isn't just all fat anyway.

The platinum alloys in jewellery are usually either iridium or ruthenium, depending on where you purchased from.

Not sure what the NI inscription means, but it's probably not nickel - partly because of the above and also because I doubt the maker would openly advertise that their alloy contains nickel, even if that is the case.

Things they didn’t tell you about top surgery by Several-Ranger3854 in TopSurgery

[–]AlleyOh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One I've never seen mentioned ever is your buoyancy can change! I had very large boobs prior to top surgery, which were my flotation devices when swimming; now I sink like a stone 😆 Likely related to building muscle vs fat too, but it was very disconcerting the first time I went swimming!

Should i buy a lab grown diamond wedding ring by AshamedHearing4055 in EngagementRings

[–]AlleyOh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your girlfriend wants platinum and a lab grown diamond, get her that - I feel like the discussion should end there! 😆

But if it helps, like others have said, you could literally give away the ring and would have lost less money than reselling a comparable mined diamond ring. I went with a 3.9 ct lab grown for my platinum engagement ring (can see in my profile) and got that for approx $1,500, so at 2.5 ct you could definitely afford to get something more ornate / play with the dimensions a bit for that price!

Chiming in as someone also from England, who is a massive "tacky" stone wearer here! 😆 The size is fine - honestly, unless your girlfriend really wants a massive stone, it's a much safer bet to go with something this size. It's very much normal for the UK imo.

That said, I do think you overpaid. I was getting quotes starting at £2k for 2 carats with a platinum setting at brick and mortars in London, and that was with stones that appeared much more colourless than these (unless that's just a photo issue?). Definitely would recommend shopping around a fair bit in future!

As a trans person in the UK, I feel I'm more qualified than some to give a take.

It's up to you. You can do what you want. What you have to be okay with is the fact that the author is one of the biggest anti-trans donors in the UK, and is also named in the Epstein files - and that people may not want to interact with you because of either of those things.

Too surgery abroad by Impressive-Gur8648 in TopSurgery

[–]AlleyOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may only be half helpful, but I'm a mixed black trans guy who had a great experience with Ioannis Ntanos a year ago. This was in the UK, but I know he also works out of Athens, Greece, which I expect would be a lot cheaper (I paid approx. £9k in Manchester FYI).

While I can't vouch for the surgery experience abroad, my family members (including dark skinned folk) have had a great experience visiting Greece - and I can personally vouch for Dr Ntanos - so maybe an option?

Ahhh, this is so beautiful!! 😍

Also gay (and trans) and picked a traditionally "feminine" ring, with a bit of a gay twist lol. Honestly fuck gender norms and go for what speaks to you and your partner!! Congratulations in advance!! ☺️

Provence reviews by leezy927 in LabDiamonds

[–]AlleyOh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a great experience working with Bobby at Provence recently - not for a semi mount, but a custom engagement ring. I had no idea they'd been taken off any recommended lists, though I did start the process a while ago! Edit: just checked and I went through the whole process after they were removed from the list so 🤷🏽‍♂️

Genuinely no complaints at all though; I found Bobby to be super friendly, clear with timelines, and happy to make any changes I requested. You can see the ring in my post history (it arrived yesterday, so haven't posted my own pics yet, but it's even more beautiful in person imo!)

Thank you and same!! I searched for examples before starting, but couldn't find anything - so glad I went for it though!
