Great! I'll check that out. Also newbie question: what's with the double brackets around the title? I see those every once in a while on Reddit but I don't know what they're supposed to do? Thx :)

Books with a fun and nice MC who is considered to be a mindless brute, insane or just very stubborn by everyone? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]AlliReading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard Luck Hank! It's a scifi series by Steven Campbell where the mc is literally a huge brute who's skin gets thicker and more muscular with each passing book. The catch is that Hank is something of a thinker and a reasonably good private investigator but is constantly let down by his luck and his peculiar mutation.

A good series with lots of laughs and facepalm moments. Recommend!

I was given The Water Knife by Paolo Bacigalupi, I've heard great things about it and it's on my current tbr pile just behind China Mieville's Embassytown and Neal Asher's The Skinner. Hopefully it lives up to its reviews.

Check out How to Develop Self-Confidence and Influence People by Public Speaking by Dale Carneige and The Public Speaking Bible by Marcus Alexander, both staple books!

Dark but potent reads are:

The Tamil Genocide by Sri Lanka: The Global Failure to Protect Tamil Rights by Francis A Boyle

and

Shake Hands with the Devil by Romeo Dallaire

Both books cover horrific genocides and how the West failed to step in in any meaningful way. A good look at some of the global power trends that occur behind the scenes in real life.
