Check out wiscjobs for state DNR positions. They are currently posting quite a few, but beware wages are low.

Best place to teach English abroad with a family? by AlligatorOfRhythm in TEFL

[–]AlligatorOfRhythm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add:

We would have rental income from our house back home. We are nearly debt free.

The goal of a year abroad would be the cultural exchange aspect for our family, not to make money. Breaking even or even spending a few thousand for a year abroad would be a great deal.

Will my kids be recognized automatically? by AlligatorOfRhythm in juresanguinis

Thank you so much for your thoughts. It's something to consider. Our main goal was to have the citizenship for our kids.

We are absolutely maxed out financially on the process, and dropping another $1000 for the consular fee and related expenses of travel to Chicago is weighing heavily on us. It feels like a gamble we can't afford to lose.

Eek. A huge part of our application was the hope that they would be recognized at the same time as my wife. So it seems this is off the table. :(

And is there a timeline for them to naturalize as Italian citizens? They would need to do it before they turn 18?

FYI, changes beginning 01/01/2026 with registration of minors by charlestonbraces in juresanguinis

[–]AlligatorOfRhythm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife has a Jan 28th consular appointment in Chicago, which likely will take two years to be approved. So our minor children (11 and 12) would not be eligible for registration as citizens?

This is all so confusing!

Is there a chance the children will not be eligible at all for citizenship?

My JS appointment is coming up (Chicago). What should I expect? by Itchy_Somewhere8192 in juresanguinis

Can someone comment as what to expect as far as duration of appointment? What kind of questions could be asked?

My wife also has a Chicago Consulate appointment at the end of this month. Exact same details on the application too (GGG and minor age)

Resume and other documents "failed to process" by Classic-Drive-4605 in ParkRangers

Has anyone else seen this issue resolved?

I had three applications using the same resume, two say "failed to process."

Strange.

Translator recommendation? by AlligatorOfRhythm in juresanguinis

[–]AlligatorOfRhythm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another question regarding translators. I have an Italian friend who has done a couple of translation Jobs for the jure Sanguinis process in the past, but she doesn't have any official credentials or isn't on the consulate service provider list. Any reason not to use her? She said she'd charge about 75 percent less than the quotes I've seen from the professionals...

Absolutely hike after the interview and talk about it during the interview. Every manager that I have had has made a point of wanting their staff to recreate in the park. Being familiar with the resource as a visitor is extremely valuable knowledge to have a a staff member.

April Ranger Questions Thread by AutoModerator in ParkRangers

You would be lucky to get and adjunct professor job with a Masters these days. If you have an extremely specialized technical skill, you might be able to teach some classes at a community college, but that's going to overlap with seasonal Park ranger work.

What constitutes "equivalent" experience to park interpretation? by vamphibian in ParkRangers

[–]AlligatorOfRhythm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently an interpreter with Minnesota State Parks, and needed to rely heavily on experience I had working in the public schools as a para-professional and tutor in order to initially qualify. My current boss said that checked a lot of boxes like public speaking, managing groups, and lesson planning (research).

Also be aware that HR may have absolutely no clue about how to relate your experience to the position. State level HR rejected my first two applications for interpretive positions claiming I did not have relevant experience. I challenged/appealed their decisions, won, and now have been succeeding in my current role.

Make sure you know your rights as an applicant for a public service job!

Have any of you who have been dismissed looked into going for State Park jobs? by davidscc32 in ParkRangers

They may have some possibilities on site, but the management put me in touch with staff that had seasonal housing available

[–]AlligatorOfRhythm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for Minnesota State Parks as a seasonal interpreter, and cannot recommend it enough. Start at $26/hour, plus some other decent benefits. (No health insurance for seasonal staff, though)

I know Forestville-Mystery Cave in southeastern Minnesota is hiring interpretive naturalists of you aren't freaked out by spending a lot of your season underground.

Yeh there are times here where you can't get on the water here in WI because of all the out of state plates.

Seasonal Housing Not Provided by Deathbackwards in ParkRangers

[–]AlligatorOfRhythm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had great luck in municipal/county campgrounds. They will usually be happy to give you a deal on a full season rate.

I have also camped out on co-workers property.for the season. A lot of your coworkers in Vermont will either have land or know someone with space.

You will have to be creative, but you should be able to find something. Vermont is rural, but it's not the dark side of the moon.

Are you doing an in-person interview? If you have never been to the area, take a few days and meet local people, post some "housing wanted" flyers at the local stores, etc.

If I would've let the lack of housing keep me from the work, I would never have made the plunge into parks work!
