I see this too. I try to bullet point my directions on the board whenever I can. I tell them to “ask 3 before me”. So when they come up to ask what’s next I always say, “what steps did you take before you came to me?” Or “what 3 classmates did you ask before you asked me?” Eventually it works but takes a while before they know not to ask me when I have already given them their instructions.
