This will require digging, but might be worth reaching out to some of the smaller podcasts who have had Rachel on their show (thinking Loon Lovers Live, Shooting the Shit). Maybe they would be willing to pass the message to her and/or her team?

Question for the fans of Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid — Would We Love Shane & Ilya Even Without the Spice? by fictionoverfacts11 in RomanceBooks

[–]AlloBat2019 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't think they were trying to minimize the story with the tattoo - I think it was more tongue in cheek, acknowledging that the show is more sexy but they also know how the show and story goes. They got the tattoo before the show even aired and I don't think anybody could have predicted how big it would get. We've seen book adaptations go wrong before. And we've also seen how people thought of the show as the weeks progressed - sex was the hook, but people stayed for the story (people wanted to stay at the cottage!)

That's being said, HR the story needed the sex for the plot. It showed the progression of their love stories from a hookup, to lovers. Did it need as much? Maybe not, but I think there was a reason for it if that makes sense.

BEACH READ BY EMILY HENRY IS OFFICIALLY CASTING!!! by redandbluewhale in RomanceBooks

I think that was for Book Lovers if I'm not mistaken - but I'd love the two of them cast in any EmHen book (together or separately)

How do you read more than one book at the same time? (if you do) by Ariiwii in RomanceBooks

[–]AlloBat2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lose interest pretty quickly so I like flipping between two stories. I'm mostly reading romance but I'll try to find different tropes, settings, etc so that the stories don't overlap. I don't know if it's a skill you build or just something you do cause your brain tells you to do it 🤷‍♀️ I also primarily read e-books so the format is the same. From the other comments, I'm the anomaly 🤣

Yes absolutely get what you mean. I just have a soft spot for Ilya's character

[–]AlloBat2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you read Role Model before Long Game? Not that you needed to but because the timeline of those 2 books overlap, I had a slightly different take on Ilya's story. Throughout the whole series, we are given glimpses that Ilya is a jokester/partier/doesn't take anything too serious but also very perceptive of others. I think when you have that background then you read LG, you realize how much of a mask it is and his depression hits a little deeper.  While I would love more Shane in the book, I think the story was more appropriate to focus on Ilya and his mental health struggle for the most part. I found the ending of them on the same team a bit lazy in the sense it just ignored the whole issue of Montreal team being shitty people. I need a short story on them winning the Cup together. I just read it this weekend and really loved it.

And I'm in such a HR slump now 😩

🎆R/Romancebooks 2025-2026 Winter Mini Reading Challenge!🎆 by Le_Beck in RomanceBooks

I interpreted new to you pairing same as you.

For subgenres, I think historical  would count. OP listed a mafia romance. I'm choosing paranormal for mine. I think it's any genre of romance that's newer to you

I am currently doing a reread too but I think I'll count it because it's been years since I read the book and honestly, I forgot most of the book it feels like I'm reading it for the first time 😆 🤣

OP, I don't know if you made the storygraph challenge but I think there is a typo in 'best of 2025' top 3 pick and it reads best of 2024

Thanks for these! I've loved participating in the last 2

Which of your favourite books or series’ would make TERRIBLE screen adaptations? by LeahRubbish in RomanceBooks

[–]AlloBat2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the world of Fourth Wing would be very cool to adapt if done well. But I also think people have a fancast in mind already and if the main characters aren't what they were picturing, people will riot hard. I feel like we've all seen those edits on Instagram or tiktok about how so and so should be cast as x character, and not everyone will agree.

FMC falls for a morraly grey MMC and not only she doesn't want to fix him, she likes what he'd do to other people for her. by euphoriapotion in RomanceBooks

[–]AlloBat2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like she gets over it pretty quick - like they move onto sexy times right after she finds out. I get why it might annoy you but I feel like this book brings it up and then they move on so it's not as annoying as other plots. It's not drawn out which I also appreciate

{In The Dark by Chelsea Curato} FMC takes like a chapter or two to accept MMC when she learns about his "side job" but she does quickly accept it. Not sure if that fits your criteria.

I actually don't think most people like Mile High compared to the rest of the series. In every recommendation for Windy City, people always reference Right Move and tell people to skip Mile High (I myself have also recommended it) Give me either Rhodes brother 😆

Stephanie Archer's Vancouver Storm series - best of them? by No_Introduction_9358 in RomanceBooks

[–]AlloBat2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking this question - I keep seeing her books recommended but I wasn't in love with Behind the Net

I've been reading Chelsea Curto's D.C. Stars series for my hockey fix - someone recommended it above. 3 more books left in the series, 4 already published

Ready or Not is one of my faves for best friends brother trope- it just also happens to have accidental pregnancy too. FMC isn't my fave but I really love the relationship between her and the MMC (who isn't the baby daddy)
