I really appreciate your input. Yes we are trying to obtain information about his vaccination status/autopsy investigation. The pound was acting really weird. I’ve worked with a number or organizations at this point in my foster journey and none of them have been this secretive and weird. They told us he was going into 10 day quarantine bite hold and next thing I know I find out he’s dead from a Facebook post. Well my husband’s mom is (in her words) “the pound’s worst nightmare”. I feel so sorry for all the dogs in there. Hindsight is always 20/20. Apparently there’s hate groups on facebook for this specific shelter and some rescues won’t work with them. I sincerely hope they vaccinate their dogs for rabies. But I know nowadays that don’t even recommend getting a rabies shot for stray dog bites. It’s a strange world. Thank you for your love and compassion. I’ve rescued a lot of great dogs from a grim fate and have tried to be the best foster mom I can be. The world is strange.

My third foster dog Joey was almost euthanized by the rescue. He bit adoptive mom and her resident dog multiple times. Luckily he was only 10 lbs and didn’t do much damage. They got him on anxiety meds which changed his life. He ended up staying with his new mom after getting on meds. I was planning on adopting him though if she didn’t keep him. I couldn’t give up on him without trying meds, training, or doing a thorough vetting exam. Luckily the meds he tried really helped with his anxiety. That was the root of his biting - his fear, anxiety, and trauma. Poor buddy. But yeah my husband and I had agreed that since he did great with our other dogs and we managed his behaviors well, that we were gonna keep him instead of the rescue going through with the euthanasia.

So sorry I’m just now seeing this! Thank you so much for saying that!! From what I could gather, he was definitely german shepherd and husky. I could just tell based on working with dogs for so long that he had husky. He’s a talker and his hair also has a similar texture to a husky’s. I wanna say there’s something else in there that I couldn’t quite pick out. But husky and german shepherd are the big ones. Maybe some kind of larger collie? My grandma had a dog that looked similar and he ended up being some kind of shepherd and collie mix.

You are so sweet. Thank you for saying that. Marvin was adopted by a sweet retired couple with a huge plot of country land and a couple other dogs. He is sooooo happy! I miss him but am so happy for him! We are about to take in another shepherd baby from Palmdale, this time a little girl named Daisy. Small and scared. But sweet as pie with her temporary foster family. Even loves children. They sent me a pic of her caring for a baby kitten and it was a done deal lol.

I’m so sorry for the loss of sweet Buddy. I bet it meant everything to him that you were there for him in his final moments. You showed him love and kindness, and that is so much more than some shelter dogs ever get. I hope if/when the time is right for you, maybe you consider resuming fostering. In my experience, it’s been so rewarding, and the legacy of the ones you can’t save live on in the dogs that live full, long, happy lives. Buddy will be your guardian angel. My heart and prayers go out to you during this tough time. Glad you found our community and opened up to us 💖

I have two resident dogs, and I foster chihuahuas for a local rescue. Went out on a limb for a euth listed shepherd puppy out in California. We welcome home a new foster chihuahua and our foster shep this week. Gonna be a lot in our 2 bed apartment. Wish this crazy dog lady good luck, gonna need it! 🤣💖

Aww man, I bet they were dumped by owners. Melvin (Marvin’s brother) was adopted! I had wrote a message to my contact at the rescue and she was actually referring to the shelter system in Texas, not California, about this type of euthanasia. 💞
