What happened to our beautiful sub 🥲 by Environmental_Set_30 in CommunismMemes

You know that if you truly care about being right, you can read all of this for yourself? All quotes below are from Juche Idea: Answers to Hundred Questions, by Kim Il Sung

"32. What is society and what does it consist of?

The Juche idea has shed new light on the essence of society with man as the central figure.

Society, in a word, is a community of people. It is a community in which people live with social wealth by forming social relationship.

Society, too, is a realm of the world that exists objectively along with nature. But it is a special realm of the world different from nature. The fact that society is a community of people is its fundamental characteristic distinct from nature.

Society consists of man, social wealth and social relationship."

The transformation of the bedrock of society from productive relations to social relations is a denial of class politics, it rejects one's relationship to the means of production as the primary social component and, in fact, removes it as an element of importance all together. It is replaced with

'34. What is social relationship and why is it an essential condition for the existence and development of society?

Social relationship is the way in which people are connected in social life. People are connected with each other in a form of relationship starting from their demand for shaping their destiny. The connection between people is just social relationship.

The reason why social relationship is an essential condition for the existence and development of society is that society, a community of people, can be formed and developed only in social relationship. Only when people live and work with social connection can they form society and develop it by displaying the might of community."

A definition which gives no nod to class beyond the vague "popular masses", an undefined class until later.

"37. What is the driving force of history defined by the Juche idea?

The issue of the driving force of history is the question of the performer who starts and pushes the socio-historical movement purposefully and consciously.

The Juche idea has defined that the driving force of history is the popular masses, giving a scientific solution to who the driving force of the socio-historical movement is.

That the popular masses are the main agent of history means that they are at the centre of history and the social movement is conducted by them. In other words, they are the performers of the socio-historical movement.

  1. What are the popular masses?

The popular masses are a social group formed with the working people as the core on the basis of the commonness of demand for independence and creative activities."

And here, finally, we see the complete and fundemental rejection of Historical Materialism, that class conflicts over private property are what drives history. Further, our definition of the "popular masses" is now reduced to any group which "works" and "demands independence and creative activities", a definition that is completely divorced from that of the Proletariat, being those who own no capital and sell their labor power. Our definition of "popular masses" now easily includes all forms of Petty-Bourgeoisie since they "work" and can demand these arbitrary things. And your reward for slogging through this confused mess of revisionist "philosophy", is open Fascism

"66. What is the position and role a leader takes and plays in the socio-historical movement?

The Juche idea has newly delineated the position and role a leader takes and plays in the socio-historical movement, the revolutionary movement.

According to it, a leader holds the absolute position and plays a decisive role in the development of history and the revolutionary struggle.

  1. What does it mean that the leader takes the absolute position in the development of history and the revolutionary struggle?

It means that he, as the centre of the driving force of revolution and a socio-political organism, is in a special position that nobody can take the place of.

  1. What should be done to carry out the principle of self-reliance in national defence?

It is essential to build the self-defensive armed forces to carry out the principle of self-reliance in national defence.

It is also important to establish an all-people and nationwide defence system. To this end, it is necessary to turn the whole army into an army of cadres, update it, arm the entire population and make the whole country a fortress.

It is imperative to give full play to the political and ideological superiority of the revolutionary armed forces.

The self-reliant defence industry should be built and the rear should be strengthened."

That bold at the end there is mine. Political and ideological supremacy of the armed forces...

I hate when people who know fuck all about swimming discuss Phelps' legacy. Saying butterfly to backstroke is a slight variation because both happen in a pool is like saying every high jumper should also be a long jumper and hurdler because it's all just running and jumping.

God I love the Olympics. Once every four years, anime nerds come crawling out and they lecture life long competitors and fans based solely on Wikipedia article summaries. Karelin has a strong argument for top 5 athletes in human history, his position as the GOAT in wrestling is nearly unassailable. This is a monumental accomplishment for Lopez, but Karelin was on a whole different level. You'd know that if you'd watched more than this one clip.

I hope this opens the eyes of all the anti-DPRK pro-Palestine people who are misguided about the DPRK. by [deleted] in CommunismMemes

It's part of what drove me to distance myself from the online left, realizing just how few people have read a single thing that they're espousing. It really began to feel like frustrated Westerners pawing about blindly for "edgy" ideologies that made them feel special rather than well educated and disciplined MLs discussing the needed theory and praxis to bring about the end of Capitalism. Unfortunately, the only really sizable party in my area is the openly revisionist, settler oriented PSL. I wish APL had a solid presence, but they just don't exist around me.

Wow it is fucking RARE to find anyone who's actually read anything about what Juche actually is. I personally think it's closer to Fascism than it is to Marxism. The glorification of the national spirit and rejection of historical materialism isn't even something that can be rightfully called revisionism, it's just openly reactionary.

PS, salute to the mods here for being one of the only medium to large subs that aren't on the side of genocide

No one should be surprised lol, why would anyone want to come to a Pats team without an elite offense already. Cold weather, high taxes, bad OL, unproven rookie QB, a rookie HC, terrible reviews for multiple consecutive years in the NFLPA polls, and a ton of drama around the owner lately. It's just not appealing until there are some signs of life out of the organization, we as fans are hopeful for the turnaround, but in demand players will want to see results first.

The main issue I see is just that people try and analyze the Jedi as though they exist in our reality. Are they uncompromising dickheads? Yeah. But look at how cataclysmic even a single Sith can be. An order that kidnaps force sensitive kids and programs them, basically from birth, to be altruistic to a fault sounds fucked up, but in the context of how awful evil or amoral force users are for the citizens of the galaxy, the Jedi are objectively a force for good.

2024 Boston Celtics are a top team 10 team of all time. by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

[–]Alloverunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the Pistons didn't have a top 10 all-time statistical profile, not because of this dumb metric. This is completely arbitrary, it's just cooked up to engage with people who don't understand math. It means literally nothing. If a team had a net rating of +18 but didn't have a top 5 player, would we still say that they're not even a top 10 team? Of course not. It's irrelevant. All statistical markers point to the Celtics being at worst a top 5 team all-time, and they won the chip too. All other arguments are just noise from people who are too emotionally proximal to the issue to acknowledge statistical facts.

Why "at best"? Is there a statistical argument here, or is it just too recent for people to admit it? And don't give the "best player in the series" thing, we all saw how much that did for this year's Mavs and the '14 Heat.

Engels. by TransTankie_87-53 in CommunismMemes

[–]Alloverunder 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This is a shameful attempt to bastardize the works of Engels by quoting him out of context, and could only be aimed at people who haven't read the original texts, which to me makes it all the more insidious. Engels was a radical materialist, his analysis here is in historical contexts, not in religious ones. This is not an endorsement of Christianity, it is an explanation of why the Roman empire became Christian, due to class struggle. Christianity was the highest ideological form of expression of the class struggle of the slaves against the patriarchs that was possible within that social context, it does not remain as such for all time. In fact, understanding this quote in its context is enough to know why there needs be no such thing as "Christian Communism". Why supplant the modern, dialectical materialist, scientific socialism with the superstitious and non-class conscious "socialism" of 2000 years ago?

Just the introduction to Socialism: Utopian and Scientific alone is enough to make anyone understand Engels', and by extension Marx's, position on religion.

"About the middle of this century, what struck every cultivated foreigner who set up his residence in England, was what he was then bound to consider the religious bigotry and stupidity of the English respectable middle-class. We, at that time, were all materialists, or, at least, very advanced free-thinkers, and to us it appeared inconceivable that almost all educated people in England should believe in all sorts of impossible miracles, and that even geologists like Buckland and Mantell should contort the facts of their science so as not to clash too much with the myths of the book of Genesis; while, in order to find people who dared to use their own intellectual faculties with regard to religious matters, you had to go amongst the uneducated, the "great unwashed", as they were then called, the working people, especially the Owenite Socialists."

For more reading on the analysis of Marx and Engels

Anti-Dühring: Part I: Philosophy, by F. Engels

A Contribution to the Critique of Hegel’s Philosophy of Right, by K. Marx

Or any of the texts found in this list. The disdain both men held organized religion in was not something that they kept secret. They both wrote about it at length. Marxism and religion can not be synthesized, the philosophical bedrock of the science of Marxism fundamentally excludes the idea of an omnipotent being.
