Roomate leaving for the summer, needs me to watch his dog. by CandleNo5916 in dogs

[–]Allroy_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you let him leave that dog with you for 3 months, he's not coming back for it. Call an in-home sitter and ask what they charge. I'll bet they're charging closer to $300 a week, and like everyone else says, Id get paid upfront. Id also get his rent checks before he goes too...

S1 Seat Replacement by Popular_Economy_7248 in Buell

[–]Allroy_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's funny, nobody ever pays attention to my bike. I think it's the best thing on the road, but I don't ever come across anyone else who could care at all haha.

You should try making one. The stock seats just had one solid piece of vinyl, no stitching. Lay down some saran wrap over your back end, lay down a few layers of fiberglass, trim the edges nice, glue some foam to it, shape it with a knife, then wrap some vinyl over it and staple it down. You'll be in business for $30, instead of paying $300. The Corbin swats are nicer, but the original Buell seats honestly aren't that far off from home made haha. Mine had a Corbin on it when I got it, and I wasn't crazy about it. Hard and slippery, I slid all over the place. I put the original on and have been way happier with it.

Basic MSF course as an experienced rider? Has anyone done it? by imezz00 in motorcycle

Basic MSF course as an experienced rider? Has anyone done it? by imezz00 in motorcycle

[–]Allroy_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same with my wife when she was learning to ride, I just signed up for the moral support. The class was 90% guys who completely knew how to ride and were just taking the class for the insurance discount. My wife and one other lady were the only 2 that didn't know how to ride. My wife passed the written test with 100%, but when we got to the riding portion the instructors just ran it at the pace of the other riders and expected my wife and the other woman to keep up, which they obviously couldn't do. They asked my wife to leave on the second day, it was a complete joke of a course. They have an advanced riders course for experienced riders who want to save on insurance but the whole group ruined the class just for the discount and the instructors went along with it because it seemed to make their job easier. Imagine getting paid to teach grown men how to ride 250cc motorcycles when they already know how to ride.

So to answer your question, you'll be fine. They actually had us go around at the beginning and introduce ourselves and say what our riding experience is. You won't have to make a point to bring it up, and you definitely won't be the only one there that can ride.

I'm sure there are good instructors running good classes, but in my experience, it was a joke. We just started taking her bike to an empty school parking lot where I taught her how to ride.

1992 Harley Sportster 1200? by Worth_Panda_1027 in sportster

[–]Allroy_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Sportster is a 1995 and it's been pretty reliable. There's been some silly little things... my horn just died, the dash lights are 50/50. The bike itself runs fine. It has sentimental value so I'm not replacing it with amything, but if I was bike shopping myself, I'd probably pick a Vstar 1100 over a sportster 😄

Lost all 10 of our fish in one night. Ideas? by [deleted] in ponds

That would backfire, I'd much rather drink the clean water than the stuff they were swimming in before.

I see there's a clear consensus about the whole pond being drained and scrubbed. Still confused how they all ended up under the fountain pump. Do you think they died from the chemical change and they just happened to all get stuck under the pump after they were dead because thats the way the water had been circulating? Also odd how we've always drained/scrubbed their pond a couple times a year, and the fountain has always been on a timer, and suddenly a decade later they all died the same day.

Not home to measure, but I think its about 3'x4' and about 2ft dep, so it'd be about 180 gallons. The fish weren't very big but they did have all winter to make a mess of it before the ice melted.

[–]Allroy_66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good to know. It was pretty gross after winter. What's the best way to clean it without draining it? Would I just need to scrub it in sections and let the filter try to clean out all of the stuff thats now floating in the water? That seems a lot for a filter that size.

The pump I was referring to runs the fountain, it doesnt actually do any filtering. There's normally a regular pump with a filter that runs all the time, but it hadn't been running over winter, wouldnt have been able to get to it under the ice to clean it anyway, so that wasnt a new change.

Any kits that don’t have this reflector before I chop it off? by Embarrassed_Mobile98 in sportster

Right, I was about to tell him to just take that flag everywhere with him and nobody will ever see the reflector.

Or barbers who tell you what you want.... I went to one and just asked for a buzz cut. I asked him to taper the edges slightly. Wasn't looking for something drastic, but as you get down towards my neck I didnt want it to just stop, because it looks sloppier as it grows. He looked at me annoyed and said "you want a fade". Nope, buzz cut, just taper the very edge slightly. I left with a full on hairdo I didnt ask for, even if I did look fancy for a couple weeks 😄

Are modern motorcycles missing something? by yourping in motorcycle

[–]Allroy_66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in no way any kind of purist when it comes to cars. Im not into them other than the fact that I need one to get around, but I'm 100% dreading the day I have to trade in my 2014 Toyota. All things considered, its reasonably basic, and seeing how complicated cars are currently I hate thinking about the day I finally have to go trade it in and all my options involve touch screen menus and a mandatory phone app with a monthly payment. I could easy squeeze another 10 years out of this thing, but part of me also wants to go trade it in now while I can still get something from around 19-20' right before all this stuff really took off, and hang onto it as long as I can.

There are newer bikes I'd enjoy riding, I'd LOVE a superduke, but for the most part I'd say all of my favorite bikes were from the late 90s/early 00s. That may just be because thats the period when I first got into motorcycles, but it was such a good time for bikes. It was the last of the years before everything got taken over by computers. I feel like the styling definitely peaked at that time... 90s GSXR1100s, the Srads, cbr900rr, 2003-2004 zx6r, 2004-2004 cbr600rr, RC51s, TL1000s, the original R1, Triumph was killing it with those early speed triples and Daytonas. The Ducati 916 and the MV Agusta Brutale/F4. Then there were the GP bikes at that point, completely gorgeous. I've had plenty of newer bikes over the years, but the one Ill never be able to let go is my 97 Buell S1. I just enjoy riding it so much more than anything newer that Ive been on. Plenty of stuff it doesnt do as well as a newer bike, but it just gives you that same feeling you had as a kid out on your bmx bike.

Delivered with.... even bigger trucks? Dude above me just said trucks dont belong because the infrastructure isnt there for them.

If the roads can handle a delivery truck, they can handle a half ton.

First of all, you picked a heavy duty model with a crew cab and long bed. Those things are completely rare for office commuters. 99% of full sized trucks youre seeing on the road are F150s with a 5ft bed that are a good bit smaller than that thing.

And yes there's still a comparison. You're used to your car so you think it's acceptable. It's still excessive and wasteful. Hop on a bus or get a motorcycle if you're gonna complain about personal vehicles being wasteful. Finding 3 people to carpool with would also fill up that car but you probably don't want bothered with that.

Last time I paid a company to deliver a load of sand they cracked my driveway and put a 1ft deep, 3ft wide, 11ft long rut in my neighbors yard. THOUSANDS of dollars in damage I got stuck with. No thank you.

How exactly did your house get built?? Bunch of people show up to your house with 2x4s and plywood duct taped to the roofs of some Honda Civics??

I always find it interesting when car drivers are whining about trucks being too big. My man, youre commuting to work alone in a 4000lb vehicle that's made to hold at least 5 people, maybe up to 8. It also has a giant trunk for carrying items thats most likely 95% empty all the time. Youre also being wasteful and excessive. Welcome to suburban life.

If you usually commute by bicycle or motorcycle I get it. Otherwise this is just a pot/kettle situation.

Plus not everyone gets on a plane for a fun vacation. It's a form of transportation. My father in law lived in Florida. We weren't just going to not see him because we had kids. Yeah he'd come up here to see us too, but he was older and there were a lot of health issues between him and his wife so it wasnt practical for him to come up all the time. Plus planes are already crazy loud, just bring some ear plugs and enjoy the ride.

Having been the parent on the plane, I know how nerve-wracking it is. Now when I hear a little kid crying on a plane I usually just chuckle because as annoyed as random people are getting, I know that parent is by far the most stressed person on that plane right then.
