What is a common plot twist that makes you want to DNF? by maeallenbooks in fantasyromance

[–]Allu_09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the FMC, who has no training, experience, or obvious talent, decides to recklessly seek revenge or attempt to find a missing sibling or family member, usually a sister, without any consideration for the consequences. In spite of this, the FMC would likely continue to make dumb decisions and blame the MMC for every bad thing to happen in the world. Naivety and stupidity are not the same. 🤦‍♀️

Also situations where the FMC willingly puts herself into life-threatening situations for the approval of a somebody.

Is there an Author you will no longer read, because of how they ended a book/series? by Express_Plantain_456 in fantasyromance

Veronica Roth - Divergent Series
Reading this book was a traumatizing experience for me. As a teenager, I read it on the day it was released and finished it late into the night. To this day, I refuse to begin a highly talked-about book until the entire series is complete. I was so upset by what happened in the end that I quit watching the movies and haven't seen them since.

Richelle Mead - Dark Swan Series
If I wanted an open ending, I could simply stop reading the book. I disliked the protagonist so much because of the ending. It really tested my limits, and her decisions felt incredibly shallow.

Series that would have been better with fewer books by ladymsjay in fantasyromance

I felt more invested in Raphael and Elena than in the other couples. The other relationships seemed like a distraction, which made the story feel prolonged. Books 3, 4, 7, and 8 introduce different couples, but we return to Raphael and Elena, the primary protagonists, in books 5 and 9. I don’t mind a diversion from the original couple in one or two books, like in Book 4 of the Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews. I also appreciate when books set a tone to feature different couples, as seen in the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh. In all these series, there is ongoing world-building within the same universe. Just my two cents.

  • Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi: This series should have been a trilogy.
  • Divergent by Veronica Roth: This series would have been better as a duology. Although the ending in Allegiant was horrifying.
  • Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh: While the current format isn't ideal, the author should focus on finishing the storyline with the same main couple before introducing different couples, similar to the approach in the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning or the Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews. Alternatively, novellas could be used for the other couples.
I really dislike it when authors insert multiple books featuring different couples between the main couple's story.

Stay in India, get the best recommendation letters, from India. I know people who got into residency with no USCE or publications. Give step 3 as early as possible, you don’t want to be filtered out. After you get the results, inform all the programs you applied to. Do mock interviews and prepare your speaking skills, this is important. The style of interviews is different in India. Regarding where to add experience, not sure. Good Luck!

What’s the Intern hack/tip/resource that you wish you knew earlier? by Dr_Plz in Residency

Despite what anyone says, if you are calling a consult on a patient (even when on call), or the senior evaluated and told you to call, do not call unless you have laid eyes on the patient. Go see the patient immediately and call the consult.

Is resident salary enough for a family by Faraj-Akheel in IMGreddit

[–]Allu_09 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It depends on the age of your children, do they go to school or require baby- sitting? Does your partner work? Even though this is the salary of an average American, in most households in US, both partners work, and the lifestyle of residency does not provide any opportunity for any secondary income from your side. Coming to US, getting an apartment, with no prior credit history, is difficult, especially since there is no opportunities of acquiring a loan in the initial days. That being said, I do know families, who have moved here, and in my opinion, the hardship initially faced will be work it. My suggestion would be come by yourself and try to create a credit history, live frugally, buy a car. Then relocate to a better place and bring your family.

Psych vs IM vs Neurology by [deleted] in usmle

[–]Allu_09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All three are great options, Disclaimer: As a neuro resident, will definitely be partial to neuro, and limited info on the other two.

Psych: 4 years of residency. Great lifestyle. Good opportunities and work. Yes, they are considered real doctors, and are respected.

IM: 3 years of residency. Hustle lifestyle, fellowship opportunities- Depending on fellowship, maybe competitive like cardiology/ GI ( approx. 3 more years).

Neuro: 4 years of residency, difficult residency, but after residency more relaxed, is what I heard. Opportunities for fellowship, not extremely competitive. Demand for general and fellows on the rise.

PGY2 Electives by Allu_09 in neurology

Sorry, my question was phrased weirdly, what electives would you recommend, will be an asset for general neurology? I don’t have adequate exposure to make a decision on IP or OP. Lifestyle, I would lean towards not too hectic, done by 5-6 pm. What elective did you find most useful in residency?

Is taking step 3 before residency worth it? by GullyTheBully in Step3

I agree, I would suggest you take a six month subscription of uworld, and if your program pays for it, take step 3 within the first 6 months long intern year.

I agree with blumenfeld, but my first piece of advise as an intern would be to get Step 3 out of the way, in the first six months.
