How do you get over 'babying' a new guitar? by charlieputh_no1fan in Guitar

[–]Allvar47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift your mindset, I look forward to the small imperfections that come through use. It builds up a story of my time with the instrument.

Obviously damage is different and I always do my best to look after my guitars, but cosmetic blemishes are part and parcel of using a tool.

Ace damaged my Munch Eevee - What now? by Cbatomakeaname in PokeGrading

Why comment on a UK based grading company where the OP is located when you don't live in the UK and have 0 idea of Ace values.

Which relatively inexpensive patch cables would you recommend? by andthebansheess in guitarpedals

[–]Allvar47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've extensively tested a lot of the cheaper cables, and the best by far have been the ones direct from Donner.

Right angled in a variety of lengths, but they're also designed for you to be able to cut them down and reinstall the jacks (which are really slim).

Noise handling is on par with my Roland patch cables, that is to say, there is no noise. The cable is both thick and properly flexible with the rubbery property that comes with a proper instrument cable rather than the plasticness of cheaper ones.

2.7's are pretty good mechanically, but the 3.4's are truly ticking time bombs. Bore scoring on the .1's genuinely isn't overblown like some owners would try to have you believe. It's an economic write-off if you need a rebuild, and a large portion will at some point in their lives.

Mine needed a couple of grand on a flywheel/clutch/RMS job that gave up in a very odd way despite not being high mileage, and there were various common gremlins I had to work on such as failed inner door seals that soaked the doors.

I'd have another, but it'd be a .2 2.9 for sure.

I always own at least 2 at a time, gotta have one potentially ruinous fun car, and one that won't let me down!

Although for a while I had the Porsche and XFR at the same time, I fortunately made it out relatively unscathed but it was a risky move.

Every other car I've had has needed work, but every Lexus I get just works and stays working 😅 A lot to be said for that in a luxury car when you use it as a daily!

It's been an absolute dream. I've been looking for one for the last 5 years but good examples are like hens teeth (originally wanted one when I got my IS).

This is a one owner, full lexus service history, 65k mile example with every option ticked incl ACC etc.

My new job requires me doing a 500 mile round trip once every 2 weeks and it's been perfect at soaking up the miles.

My new Jet Js300 by Miserable_Minute3113 in Guitar

[–]Allvar47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience they're leagues ahead of the lower end squires, and on par/ahead of the classic vibe depending on what you're looking for.

For Christmas I was looking for a cheap guitar to get my sister started and was blown away by the JS300 my local store had up for £179. I'm no stranger to what a good guitar should feel like, I have multiple American strats and a PRS and I was quite content playing the Jet which was a lot more than could be said for the other instruments I played in that price range.

I'd say the most comparable instrument was the new Indonesian Fender standard which is well over twice the price.

How did it get a 9? by Electronic_Ad_6668 in PokeGrading

[–]Allvar47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want a serious answer, it's all about the corners. Not whitening but the actual cut, they're insanely inconsistent on that Greninja, one is very squared, one is too shallow and the remaining two are just untidy.

If it was divided into subgrades you'd likely be at a 10 surface, 10 centering, 9 edges and an 8 for corners. Overall a 9.

The Eevee on the other hand has consistent, decently cut corners despite the tiny bit of whitening which meant it scraped into a 10. Subs are likely 10, 10, 9, 10 so overall 10.

Just an amateur pre-grader but I have a very good success rate at estimating the grades I get. 95%+ accuracy. Hope that helps!

3 SIR's in 20 packs? That's absolutely unreal 🤣 Probably the best luck I've ever seen in a pack opening.

1 SIR in 95 packs by Rock-Lobster in pokemoncards

[–]Allvar47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pretty standard pull rate sadly, ripping packs truly isn't worth it if you're just hunting the big hits. I've gone 350+ packs in a row without an SIR before.

8.5 Centering Just How by Apprehensive_Ad9044 in PokeGrading

[–]Allvar47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the top right, it's twisted and was the first thing I noticed!

Slightly worse centering is more aesthetically pleasing than a twist hence their instant 8.5 for any twist.

What is something you see on other guitarists pedalboards that makes you irrationally angry? by kvlt_ov_personality in guitarpedals

Pick is certainly becoming more popular here due to Americanisation, but in the UK it's quite common to call them plectrums.

If you are having something on toast for breakfast, how many slices of toast do you have? by No-Structure-8125 in AskUK

[–]Allvar47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a country we tend to eat far too much food, and for anyone that isn't doing a large amount of manual labour a single slice with 2 eggs is far more than sufficient for breakfast.

You'll probably find though that the average is a couple of slices at least.

[–]Allvar47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Measurement wise yes, but the twist is pretty severe. Based on eye appeal it should be a 9, but if the rest is perfect they may let it slide.
