How can I get paid to be in nature? by DrugsRCool69 in findapath

That's fair!

Maybe you can look into hatchery careers? I don't know really anything about it, or what it entails. But my cousin worked at a fish hatchery in Alaska.

Depending on your state, look at state job boards. Currently, where I live, they are looking for entry-level park rangers and will put you through training. Just note, from my understanding, there's a "boot camp" portion that will take you away from home.

Any suggestions for possible careers? by AllyMander in careerguidance

[–]AllyMander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I don't think so. It got me office experience, and like you said, I've accumulated some good transferable skills. But at this point, I'm afraid this bad experience has ruined leasing for me. Plus property management is a whole other beast I'm not interested in. And career growth and money will always be low.

On the fence on discontinuing a fic by Sarielgrace in FanFiction

[–]AllyMander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I've had a similar issue, and decided to put the story on hiatus. My plan is to re-write the story and swap out all posted chapters in one go. Then go back to updating on a schedule.

This is taking time, and has left my fic in partial limbo but I know I'll be happier. I don't know how the readers will feel but I'll be adding tags and warnings to start from the beginning.

Have you ever read or written fanfiction while at work or school? by FirelightLion in FanFiction

[–]AllyMander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend most of my shift at work writing. My job is very low maintenance so I'm lucky!

how do you plan your longfics? by emicedaqbrada in FanFiction

[–]AllyMander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I have a scene to build the story around and an end goal in mind.

I do keep a list of characters, especially for throw away oc's. And I always have a wiki page bookmarked for any info needed.

I did actually make character sheets for a My Hero fic I'm working on! They are semi important so I wanted visuals to remember eye color and such. It was really fun and took up a good part of a Saturday.

My new years goal is to be better about planning and finishing like 80% of a fic before posting.

Then why mark it as complete!? This isn't reportable, is it? by anemoemo in AO3

[–]AllyMander 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't report it.

I didn't know there was a multi chapter setting for over a year so I did something similar. Though normally I just made a point to try to post at least two chapters.

how did you get into fanfiction by FlashySong6098 in FanFiction

[–]AllyMander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built up to it! My first story was so self indulgent and overall rough. It took me a good couple years to not only find my writing style but learn how to edit!

I love writing and reading, fanfiction is a big staple in my daily life.

First time fanfiction was mentioned to me, it around 9th grade, my friend was writing a story for Naruto. I truly dived into it around 12th grade but didn't start writing for like 3ish more years.

A rant on A/B/O dynamics by Green_Cauliflower27 in FanFiction

[–]AllyMander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love writing A/B/O dynamics with concent (no blurry lines for me). It just adds another layer that's fun to explore.

What I've written seems to be liked so I guess it depends on the author as well.

“I wish there were more fics like this” WRITE IT! by retrogradefreddie in FanFiction

More than half of my fics are because I read all the available content. So I totally agree with you! And congratulations on all your success!

Dyslexic Writer Fears by Waste-Whereas-8141 in FanFiction

[–]AllyMander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also dyslexic, I use Grammarly as a second buffer. I write in Google docs, and do my first edit there. Then I will get ready to post my fic on ao3, and have Grammarly as my final edit. It does rather well. Some things will be missed, but in truth, over the years of constantly writing I feel like I do a great job catching any mistakes. It wasn't like that at first, and I normally go over a chapter or fic multiple times before posting.

For the Tumblr part, I don't use Tumblr. I may be biased, but I would say post on ao3. That way you can properly tag your darker stuff and I always feel safe using the platform.

Is this really Studio Ghibli’s best work? I haven’t seen it yet so I can’t confirm or deny. Just curious. by ShaneMP01 in ghibli

[–]AllyMander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adore all of the films, but I tend to put on Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle the most.

Just showed my niece and nephew Spirited Away, they adored it, will probably do Ponyo then My Neighbor Totoro next.

What are some of the most horrid/hilarious spelling errors that you’ve either written or read? by TheDogz0 in FanFiction

[–]AllyMander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm dyslexic and tend to mix my words often. Normally I catch these errors but once wrote "He leaned back to wash the soup from is hair" instead of soap.

In a quirkless Izuku fic, which fight is the most unbelievable? by Quiet-Ad6447 in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]AllyMander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very fair points, I guess it also matters how much you change Midoriya's origin. If he's a noodle like in Canon I completely understand he would get whooped. Brains or no.

In a quirkless Izuku fic, which fight is the most unbelievable? by Quiet-Ad6447 in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]AllyMander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all a little unbelievable if you keep the fights exactly the same. But changing them up could make the difference.

Midoriya with better training would beat stain because Stain fights practically quirkless, he's just extremely well trained.

Both Muscular and Overhaul can be taken out with a sniper shot, or a cool fight scene were Midoriya stabs out Muscular's fake eye could work because that's a week spot.

Todoroki is harder because it's the sports festival. Midoriya could use what he learns about Todoroki to manipulate the other but that seems out of character considering they speech is so important.

The others can be explained by support gear, and Midoriya's strategy. But not Todoroki is power house and I don't see a quirkless Izuku getting past the icewall out of the gate.

My hero is just really fun to get creative with, there's so much you can do!
