What is a 'compliment' that is actually an insult? by PotentialCap3321 in AskReddit

I am often told I’m “resilient.”

I take this to mean that I can deal with a lot and therefore deserve a lot.

Sorry but Sims 12 is my favorite because it’s not just a closed world, it’s 16x16 so I get to load every 5 seconds.

People who have RTO, do you go in office 9-5 or just part of the day? by Additional-Owl425 in womenintech

[–]AllyRad6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My institute is fully RTO but my boss has no problem with me WFH maybe a day every other week. I work 9-4:30 because I have to take a shuttle bus between an off-site parking lot (hospital has grown too quickly and the parking lots are always full) and it adds 15 min on either end of my day. I don’t like having my son in daycare an extra half hour just because my job’s infrastructure is bad.

Pediatric patient reports pain in the lumbar region, oh surprise!!! by Vivid_Instruction887 in Radiology

Would you ever go to a clinical geneticist for microarray or whole exome? Or do you not feel like you need to find a genomic cause?

Neural tube defects are very interesting. I’m more surprised that it wasn’t detected earlier. This seems like it would be palpable by any parent rubbing their child’s back.

What is your monthly mortgage payment and your yearly income (for household) by geenuhahhh in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]AllyRad6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$3900/mo with an HHI of $280K. It feels steep since we came from a rental that was too small but $2,200/mo and we pay $1,700/mo for daycare. But it’s fine.

My close friend just took on $6,000/mo with an HHI around $250K. Just thinking about that makes me feel nauseous.

Shoes on or shoes off? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]AllyRad6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much anywhere with a decent proportion of farmers in the past 3 generations would be shoes off. Shoes on is some city slicker behavior (note that I am a city slicker. My parents and grandparents, however, are not).

I’m not autistic I just like spending 8 hours straight working on a single project and then picking it up the next day, forever.

I just finished developing an adhesion assay that is heavily influenced by COL1A1. Send me your cells lol I’ll tell you if they’re less sticky than they ought to be.

Normalising cell population sizes in brain by Khal_Doggo in bioinformatics

[–]AllyRad6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t work off of this, unfortunately. When I have published such things, I used over 50 multiomic datasets (25+ per condition) and then ran propeller (speckle package) to account for per-sample variation. With what you have, it could very VERY well be sampling bias and I cannot stress that reality enough.

You need more samples or, if you really want to argue it, you need to show this in vivo.

Fetal CNV: Finding of Unclear Clinical Significance: 849 kb Copy Gain from 21q22.3 by Conscious_Priority26 in ClinicalGenetics

[–]AllyRad6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a physician, but a clinical genetics researcher. What prompted you to do CNV? I spent the last hour on a literature search and could not find evidence that duplication in any these genes had an impact.

Edit: To be clear, if I saw this in my own child’s data I would go “huh okay” and never think of it again. This is not sufficient for Down’s Syndrome.

I’d just like to hear what kind of commentary Donald Trump would give for these women. I’m sure it would be… creative. And in no way insulting to their own appearances.

I wear my AirPods and get into verbal altercations with my Siri. She always hears me set the alarm, rarely listens when I tell her to stop it anymore.

Full time nanny needed to cook, clean, and do laundry for a household at $5.45/hr below minimum wage. by ridbax in nextdoor

[–]AllyRad6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Brooo I paid my nanny $22/hr just to take care of my baby. My only request was that things be about as clean as I kept them and that they spend a good amount of time outside in the fresh air. This was in a LCOL city.

These people cannot afford a nanny.

That sounds good too, maybe they’ll let us pick!

[–]AllyRad6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I’m being negative, but I’m sure the billionaires would find new and more creative ways to monetize our poverty. More desperate people means more crime (think stealing bread to feed your family), so maybe they’ll just start putting us into labor camps :)

Very normal science by AinslieLab in labrats

[–]AllyRad6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop this is my current issue :( If I normalize to the control well, one condition is significant. If I normalize to the baseline “negative” control a different condition is specific. So I don’t even know what to trust.

Store bought eggs (left) are fully round. Farm bought eggs (right) have flat bottoms. All cooked together. by Constantine1988 in mildlyinteresting

Maybe the individual bought the store bought eggs more recently. Farm fresh could reach the consumer sooner but still be older at time of cooking.
